Nintendo could go 5 years without releasing a new game for me, as long as it means I get #StarFoxAdventuresHD (Doug I know you're reading this, get on it)

Doug, don't listen to him, he's a horse / shark hybrid, just show him the Sharknado movies and continue with releasing BotW 2 asap.

Switch is almost six years old. As hardware gets older, Nintendo tends to play it safer, more conservative when greenlighting projects.

3DS is a good example of this. The final years of 3DS saw plenty of ports and remakes:
  • Luigi's Mansion 1
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 1
  • Majora's Mask 3D
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Mario Maker
  • Yoshi's Crafted World
  • Captain Toad
  • Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (remake of the DS game)
  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey (remake of the DS game)
That said, it's not like Switch doesn't have new games coming. We know Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 are coming. We know a brand new Fire Emblem is coming. We know a DK game has been frequently rumored... (I can't personally confirm it, but I trust NateDrake).

So, I wouldn't worry about Nintendo's output consisting of only remasters and remakes. I think Nintendo will try to find a balance between new stuff and old nostalgia stuff. For the past five years, Nintendo found a balance between "new games" and Wii U re-releases.
Hopefully Switch's final titles don't tank as hard as 3DS'.

The Legend of Zelda: Why Can't Nintendo Buy the Might and Magic Franchise From Ubisoft So That They Remaster Some of Those Games

Fun fact I've never seen a Sharknado movie or a shark related film. (I have if you count Finding Nemo)

I've only seen 20 min of the first Jaws movie.

Yeah, give me that nostalgia Ports - Metroid Prime Trilogie, F- Zero GX, Fire Emblem Radiant Collection, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Golden Sun, Baten Kaitos, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess...

...this makes the best console of all time even better. Just do it, i will buy them.

Are we coming to the end of a generation though? I thought Drake will be positioned as a revision, which probably means no Switch 2 until 2026-2027 or so.
I'm just having a hard time believing Nintendo releasing a console capable of 4K with DLSS is going to kill that thing 3 years after it launches when they've already gone 6 years with the OG model

I know one has nothing to do with the other, but if Nintendo releases a bunch of GCN remasters in the next couple of years and they're successful I hope third parties look at their libraries and do the same. I want to see more Square-Enix games, more Capcom games, more Sega and Atlus games, more Konami games, and so on from around 1995-2010 or so. Other than a Wii (which I've only really played half a dozen games on) all of my gaming over the years has been on handhelds, so speaking personally the more ports of classic games the better.

A game that comes up a lot is The Last Story, seems like a good fit for the audience given the strength of JRPGs. I guess the complication with that is they'd have to get Mistwalker onboard? I can't imagine Sakaguchi saying no though.
I wish for a The Last Story remaster

Agreed! The Last Story would fit very nicely into Switch's library.

(Note: Not a hint. Just a personal wish of mine)

The Legend of Zelda: I'd Make All My Posts Today Start Like This if it Wasn't Super Annoying to Do on My Phone

But this time there's a new hardware coming which seems to want to smooth the transition. That could be more of the replacements for the wiiu ports to fill the first part of the coming years.

The Last Story would greatly benefit from better performance and an improved online system.

It doesn't need a full makeover like Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition since it was always a better looking game than the original XC, a simple HD remaster would be fine.

Anyway, ports and remasters are only a good thing when it comes to filling in schedule gaps. They learned from those extremely dry first 9 months of the Wii U I guess.

I didn't have the time to read... checks motherfucking 40 pages... well

So whats the most important news of the last 40 pages?

There is also the possibility of new entries of various retro IPs via their indie partners.

Like Ice Climbers, Clu Clu Land, Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, Duck Hunt, Ballon Fight, Wild Gunman, Urban Champion…

We're entering the 7th year of the Switch's life, that is long past when a revision should be announced and released. This isn't a New 3DS situation where the revision can last past the start of a new gen due to a lack of BC - the next gen of Nintendo will almost definitely play Switch games, releasing a Pro is redundant. Also, the sudden deluge of Gamecube remasters coming our way has "EoL maintainence mode" written all over it imo

Nintendo Direct, 13th of September 2022, 3PM (CEST) :

Aonuma :
To change things up, I would like to talk to you about the title of the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild before showing you the latest trailer. So, the title for this game is (phone ring loudly). Excuse me. Yeah ? Hm hm. Yeah, I’m doing a Nintendo Direct recording. Ah ? Ok, I see. They’re gonna love it. Thanks, Miyamoto-san. So, that’s all for today, see you next year for more informations on the Zelda sequel !

Ok how about this, if a Paper Mario TTYD remaster (or in NSO) doesn’t show up at the Nintendo Direct, I’ll throw my switch. Bet time, how I love and loathe it!

Nintendo doesn't typically do "2" consoles. According to all the info we have about Drake it's basically just a much stronger Switch, there's nothing (known or rumored) that's unique about which would suggest it's a new generation of Nintendo console in the way they typically do those. It's rumored to have nearly the exact same form factor, uses the same joycons, has the same OS branch, etc.

It's not a pro (Nintendo doesn't do "pros" either) but it's much more akin to how they positioned the GBC from what we're hearing. It'll be part of the same console family but in essence wind up replacing the base model within a few years.

Honestly the expectation some have for a completely revamped joycon has been very strange to me. There are several hundred million of these things out there, they will not in any way break compatibility on the new model.
As long as they work on the internals they can keep them compatible.

The Switch already imho has the best console library ever (subjectively speaking, ofc), so adding the greatest hits from earlier consoles to it just deeply cements that place, notwithstanding the hopefully still great games to come (I have a lot of faith in Splatoon 3, Pokémon SV, M+R:SoH, BOTW2, MP4 etc.)

If Nintendo is to be believed they are constantly updating the internals. They've explicitly said so.

I don't see them outwardly and explicitly "revamping" them like some people seem to expect or hope for. They'll just continue to iterate silently.

The Drake will be a backwards compatible, 4K Switch, with some exclusive third-party games and crossgen Nintendo games. Sometime along the way, the previous Switch will be discontinued, and the newest Nintendo games will stop running on it.

The switch should be nintendos only system for like ever
It is their most popular system , all their games are a massive success, which even allows for dead franchises to get new entries
The switch should only get an 4K upgrade with AMD Fidelity or DLSS, keep the same specs, maybe more storage

For someone who wants a switch pro, just get a steam deck . As you can see everybody could make a hybrid console... looking at you sony 👀
