I wonder if that went up a little early

I want to impart on all of you that if Xbox got Sega it's game over. In fact, it'd be so game over that I think the FTC might step in

Let’s hope tomorrow starts a 1-3 week bloc of Nintendo showcases. We’ve actually gotten quite a bit this unmet but in a non traditional way.
That would be absolutely dreamy. If there’s not a September Direct I would be more than happy with that as an alternative.

People did think this would happen back after the Dreamcast died though with the Microsoft OS and all
Isn’t the Xbox button color scheme just the Dreamcast colors rotated 90 degrees? 🤔

And Peter Moore was a Sega guy before MS…

I think microsoft won't buy sega specifically because it would rock the boat too much

they may be small potatoes compared to activision-blizzard but having both would be untenable

Sega Sammy probably has too much unwanted stuff for any console holder to want them. I could see them parting out properties. Maybe Konami would want the pachinko stuff.

Wouldn’t MS buying Sega run aground over a number of regulatory hurdles in Japan which is why people have shot down other rumors in the last?

I think Prime 2+3 remakes will not be made really, I know the rumors but I don’t see a way in which Nintendo releases them if they will be inferior compared to the Prime 1 remake and to be able to match Prime 1 remake they would need to be made by Retro.
That makes sense buut i think that's only temporary.

Maybe after mp4 they will delegate the actual work to a third party studio with them supervising it. Maybe they create a new studio after mp4 and will be able to work on two full on projects at once? (aside from the actual hiring retro is doing, which might reach 30 employees per year which isnt a massive amount but it will make them grow significantly going into the next years). Idk Retro L.A. Retro Houston? I dont know what are the dev hotspots of the us lol.

Guess we can rule Sonic out if any future directs. According to Bloomberg Xbox is the home of sonic.

Fuck that, the Dreamcast is the home of Sonic. ❤️

It actually almost did happen, if reports are to be believed.
Microsoft was reportedly trying to partner with Sega to have the first Xbox be fully backwards compatible with and essentially act as the sequel to the Dreamcast. Idea was that because Sega was a giant in Japan Microsoft hardware would be sold under the Sega brand, boosting MS sales in the region, while Sega software would benefit from being exclusive to a high-profile Microsoft system in the west. If the reports are accurate, the two companies were deep into talks about this but the thing that killed it was the lack of online for XB at the time, as one of the most popular DC games in Japan (Phantasy Star Online) needed it. Sega took an all-or-nothing approach to the backwards compatibility requirement, which MS wouldn't move to remedy, and it blew the deal.

I actually only bought an Xbox because of the DC franchises that migrated during that time. I didn't even know about Halo and stuff until my high school friends were all "how can you own an Xbox and not have Halo?" and due to peer pressure I eventually branched out from all my Segashit. 😅

I swear to fucking Gaia Microsoft better not buy Sega. Let's not. Please, I used to be okay with this, then I got Warner Bros Discovery'd.
oh shit I didn't even think about it from this angle, I thought he was just trying to cheekily cash in on Sonic Frontiers visibility. Fuck.

Fuck.

this is the most depressingly realistic predictions list I've ever seen

(I don’t think this is happening but the insane doomposting and console warring would be a sight to behold).

okay, one asterisk to the realism actually, ultra versions of pokemon games are entirely untenable in the modern era

A drink of the delicious and refreshing Mountain Dew Baja Blast Zero Sugar?
I don’t understand Zero Sugar Mountain Dew. Other zero sugar sodas make sense to me. But not Mountain Dew. Sugar is like, the entire point.

Here's something interesting. There's apparently some strings in Nintendo Switch Sports that reference some Star Fox objects.

unknown.png

On first hand, it makes sense to assume something Star Fox related might come to Switch Sports at some point. However, they are only referenced once in the entire game.

The strings exist in the file Node.aidefn.byml, and resides in the directory [Logic\NodeDefinition\Node.aidefn.byml]. And this is the only file that contains them.

So why are these referenced then? Speculation wise, it's likely that these strings could be from internal prototyping relating to Nintendo's lunchpack engine.

EDIT: Credits to BombFalco. They're the ones that brought this up to me.
Wow, this is a huge deal! It's the closest indicator we've gotten to a potential Star Fox coming to Switch. Emily did mention that they were prototyping it years ago. While this isn't a guarantee Star Fox is coming to Switch soon, next year is the series' 30th anniversary. Hmmm.

Personally i dont see myself getting excited for a new SF, most likely it would be another 64 or a gimmick filled game that no one asked for

Why though? DLC couldn't have sold better than a brand new version.
at 60 dollars I straight up do not agree

think about all the overhead of a new standalone game, let alone two versions

it's a very antiquated and risky model that I can't imagine them pursuing

You think Metroid Prime 4 will be cancelled?? 😰
Aside from it I really hope everything you listed turns out true(and cross gen lol).

XCX port is probably never happening. The development of the game was absolutely horrible and apparently the devs don't want to go back to it (for good reason).
Which is why Nintendo should give it to Tantalus. 👍

It better not happen. If it does I'll absolutely shit my pants and then run screaming all the way to WalMart and buy an Xbox Series X and paint it fuckin cobalt just you watch

Wdym by overhead? I'm not familiar with the term.

Do you have a source for this? The only mention of a potential port that I’m aware of was just Takahashi saying that he’d love to see it on Switch, but it would be difficult to recreate it. I’ve never heard anything about the devs not wanting to go back to it.

I’m still solidly in the camp we will see a Xenoblade X remaster/remake/expanded edition at some point on the gen 2 Switch. Extra power will help make a port easier to an extent and presumably there will be more storage available to work with.

A third version of a Pokemon game a year after the original versions came out would sell over 10 million copies easily. Pokemon games are now $60 and they are selling the best they have since Pokemania in the late 90s. No amount supports that Ultra versions would be "untenable" these days.

I will concede that a third version makes more sense than a third and fourth version
I just don't know what could be next years holiday game tbh. I really don't think it's 3D Mario, 2D Mario makes more sense around the movie, and BOTW2 is coming in Spring. All the other options (Animal Crossing mainline, Mario Kart 10, Smash, brand new Pokemon game, etc) are pretty much impossible. So what could it be? Pokemon Third Version makes the most sense.

Yall know what else would sell no matter what?

A new Chrono Trigger.

It'd sell no matter what... to meee

I wouldn't be surprised if we turned out receiving third versions. I don't expect anything other than DLC tho because those are open world games so it would take longer.

I would like Pokémon Legends 2 instead.

That would be my worry too, though with Miyamoto focusing on theme parks and his Chris Pratt love shrine, I don’t think he’ll be pushing for yet another SF64 or gimmick thing, thankfully. Maybe they’ll make it a showcase for new hardware, like how the earlier titles were tech showcases.

Still, strange that someone on here found actual code referencing a game, which is more concrete than Insiders saying that they heard whispers about possible future games like Wind Waker/Twilight Princess ports, or Metroid Prime getting a remake/remaster, and nobody seems to think much of it.

Before anyone asks me why I'm so sure that 3D Mario isn't coming next year, it's because I don't think the Switch 2 is coming next year so 2024 makes the most sense. 3D Mario would be the last possible blockbuster title they could launch the system with. Pokemon, Zelda, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and (probably) Smash won't be ready in time. Luigi's Mansion isn't a title that can sell the system. I doubt Nintendo relies on 2D Mario to start a new generation ever again. Every other game is a non-starter. 3D Mario makes the most sense.

Third versions usually end up selling less. Even if they're essentially definitive versions of games. And there's also the massive drawback of them tending to be more expensive over the years. Take Emerald and Platinum for example, especially the former.

Yes, they sell less but they're not supposed to. The Pokemon Company already factors that into their business model. Despite selling less, they still sell a ton. And why would Game Freak and Nintendo care about the games becoming more expensive on the second hand market years after release? They don't make money off those sales.

Again, what makes a third version untenable?

2023’s holiday game is Metroid Prime 4 together with Pokemon DLC. Not every year has a 10 million seller, that’s fine.

tbh Pokémon is gonna do DLC instead of “third versions” going forward. Third versions are “buy the same game again, full price, and it’s ever so slightly different.“ DLC is “hey, 15 million people who already bought this game: here’s additional content” which is way easier of a sell than “buy the game again but different“

selling DLC:

reduces development demands by building on an established base

lengthens the tail of sales by making a game supported and live for longer

provides higher profit with a lower cost of entry

DLC is a slam dunk with recent precedent. Making another $60 version regresses from recent progress and returns to a model that is untested in the modern market
