StarTopic Xenoblade 3 |ST| Σ Become One

The way those dead characters came back to life, but also got to come back the same age that they were when they died, along with all their memories, was cheap and bent the "rules" of the world too far for the convenience of getting a new Hero for my liking.

I dislike when a game bends or breaks its own logic, especially for the sake of what is supposed to be a surprising or emotional moment. It just fell flat for me.
I thought it was that only Miyabi had her memories, implying she didn’t really die in the first place.

The others like Cammuravi only have glimpses, which kind of lines up with what the game established before with Eunice’s quick flashbacks of D.

Oh yeah, renovating spaces like that is a great idea , the thing is

there are way better places for the kids than the goddam castle jail. Like if they wanted to experience not being soldier there are better options like Fiona's Colony or even they could use the remains of COlony Omega or Colony 5
Oh, for sure. I guess I got caught up on the real-life parallel that I didn't think about how it looked in-universe

Nevermind, at the beginning of chapter 5

Just arrived to The City, biggest city in the entire Xeno franchise along with X, so there's one concern gone like the wind.

Also i'm in love of the writing of this game, best of all 4 entries in the series BY FAR.

At least i can understand what's happening, it's more simple but effective, a good example that "less is more", of course it has it's japanese writing tropes that are ridiculous and embarrasing, but it's far better than Xeno 1 and 2, those were a clusterfuck in the writing department, specially 2, i didn't understand what was happening in the entire game!
Wait. How did you not understand anything in Xenoblade 2?

That game spelled a lot of things out for you lol. In fact, almost every question you have about it’s world/lore can be answered in the game and expansion itself

How was it hard to understand 2? Everything is laid out so clearly it feels impossible to get confused about stuff.

I understood the (bad) plot twist at the end...that's it.

Never understood
Why Pyra/Mythra ar dual blades, nor they separated at the end.

WHAT Pyra/Mythra and the rest of the blades are.

Why titans merge at the end.

Why humes can merge with blades.

The game explains a lot of things, even repeatedly, but in a horrible way, writing was bad from the beggining to the very end.

Also, so many stupid anime tropes both with the main party and villains, which by the way were not memorable at all, it's like a bad shonen.

That without counting stupid design descisions like those character designs, normally i don't care in japanese oversized girls because it's bond in their culture, but this was HORRIBLE.

Even with all this criticism, it's a great game, took me almost 150 hours to finish it.

XC2 does answer all its questions, but I can understand getting confused at all the blade, flesh eater, blade eater stuff. I remember not fully understanding Amalthus’ deal either.

  • Pyra/Mythra along with Malos and Alvis were originally AI that was set up to manage the trinity core proccessor and its connection to the Conduit (or as Alvis says: he's the administrative computer for a phase transition research facility).
  • The technology for Core Crsyals was originally created to abnormally extend human life. Presumably, it could grow new tissue/cells to repair people. It was imperfect and people who had these proto-core crystals implanted in them would become the Guldo. We see in Torna, when the mad scientist Indoline guy shows Amalthus the inside of a Core Crystal that it contains DNA for all life including human.
  • Klaus re-purposed this technology and created the artificial lifeforms Blades after his experiment as a means to shepherd new life on the planet. The Blades would bond with life and on returning to their core crystals, information gathered is sent to the Trinity Processor where Klaus could tweak things. In a way, this worked as a "theistic evolution" to bring humans back into existence. It was a means to control how life would evolve.
  • Pyra is a second personality that Mythra created following the events of Torna when she saw first hand how devasting the power she wields is. Chapter 7 is called "The Fear she Carries" after all. I don't believe we're given exact details how this worked, but that's sort of how they were a dual blade. The Pyra personality eventually developed as its own thing similar to how the AI in the trinity core processor evolved into three unique personalities originally. Being parts of the computer that processed information gathered from Blades, is why Aegis drivers can become Master Drivers.
  • The titans merging at the end was always part of the plan as to why Klaus created Blades in the first place. That would be the new life cycle that Rex finds beauty in and Jin only realizes it before his death when Rex points out that beauty. Blades bond with humans to gather information for Klaus, then after gathering enough information and bonding over and over, a Blade will eventually evolve into a titan. Titans can then give birth to new life. And when a Titan is dying, it makes its way to this Pangaea that Klaus was building to serve as liveable land. This was all part of the plan to restore the World, living on the backs of living titans was never the intended end. It was after Amalthus stole Malos's core that Klaus realized he failed at steering life on this planet in the right direction and his worst fear was realized - someone like him would come along. Klaus gave up hope for humanity his creation of titan pangaea was put on hault. He was going to let humanity before your party gives him hope again and he decides to allow "one last gift".

I feel like they did a particularly poor job of explaining the villains' motivations in 2.
Amalthus/Malos sort of kind of works on paper, but the fact of the characters contrasts against the way they act in the game. Especially Malos, whose existential confusion somehow manifests as him acting like a petty schoolyard bully who is having a super fun time tormenting a kid.

Jin doesn't work at all, being a vehicle for whatever emotional manipulation the writers are going for at any given point rather than any sort of believable character.
Seems to me that destroying the whole world is a mighty big leap, and they couldn't even explain a skip: Everyone in this world has seen some shit.

I feel like all three games have some pretty shitty villains.

I beat it in about 75ish hours. Same time I took with Xenoblade DE and less then Xenoblade 2.

Tho I admittedly rushed Xenoblade DE cuase I felt that game Had dragging pacing. Too long for its own good.

Xenoblade 2 I took a while cause i was doing a lot of blade quests.

Xenoblade 3 is better paced then both 1&2. The story you can get done in like 30-40 hours honestly in normal/easy difficulty. I did a lot of Hero quests and a decent amount of side quests before going to the final boss. Game just felt like after chapter 5, they hit the fast forward button or development issues, a fetch quest in late game was not something I was expecting honestly.
I agree the fetch quest is definitely one of the least thoughtful parts of the game even though I appreciate the very first part and that it shows people areas they may not have known about. I just fast traveled to each spot since I had been to all of them. The forced ascension quest is one of the weakest I’ve seen.

Heeeeeeyyyy my music finally played again!!

It was during the battle with Moebius X and I whooped her so fast that it didn't actually have a chance to play out but I recognized the intro to the section. 😅😅😅

And then she just sorta... faded and disappeared? With no cutscene? That was weird.

Final boss
Died, Restarting from phase 1 is one thing.. but having to rewatch all the cutscenes again.. that's meh

How was it hard to understand 2? Everything is laid out so clearly it feels impossible to get confused about stuff.

Oh c'mon..It's a Xenoblade game afterall, calling it impossible to get confused just isnt fair. It's definitely confusing at times.

Yeah, I was also disappointed by that. Chapter 7 overall feels like they cut a few corners.
Yeah I was expecting something as
when they explain the origin of moebius both appear just after Z , kinda giving the meaning they were the first converted or something

Xenoblade 2 is the game that spends the most amount of time explaining the lore and the motivations of every single character in the story, we see Jin POV something like 4 different times for example, and it ends with Jin literally narrating his story to Rex in the Torna womb.

What makes him a great character however is his inner conflict about what he really wants and what he thinks he wants, something that Malos also picks up late in the story when he asks him if he’s starting to have second thoughts and if he’s aware that Lora wouldn’t have wanted what they are trying to achieve.
He really only just wants to see Lora once again, even for one moment. Even Malos basically tells you that before the final fight.

Very light spoilers about N
It’s kinda funny because Jin and N functionally have the same motivation but because of the choices they take and the options they were presented they end up representing complete opposite desires. Jin is fundamentally Thanatos, N is the extreme hic et nunc.

One minor thing I really appreciate about this game is how much character art we get. Each main character and hero gets their own main illustration, chain attack render, rest spot illustration, and chibi illustration. Really nice to see, especially since they could've just reused the main illustration for all of those things.

Fin

Now I'm depressed, another year until the Expansion I guess.. but after that another 5 years or so until Xeno 4 (or whatever they have up their sleeve) makes me depressed :p Loved the game, mostly better than the previous games but some stuff I did prefer on the previous entries.

Also, I think I lucked out and caught the post credit scene - was just about to close the game and go to bed..

So I just used one of those interactive XB3 maps of Aetia to compare to mine and see what I'm missing. Looks like all landmarks are found and marked, yet my map is still not auto-filling. The only map of mine so far that has is the one of Swordmarch.. I feel like I'm missing something really small yet critical..

Maybe you're missing a location? For whatever reason, they didn't mark locations on the map this time around.

So I just finished Chapter 5 and

I been staring at this damn flute on my screen for 10 minutes like what the spark.

What. The. Spark.

I feel like I watched a fucking season finale of some anime or smth.

I was fine for most of this because I didn't think they would actually REALLY go through with it but damn (still sure they didn't actually go through with it but they did for the moment). Should really have known better with this game subverting JRPG stereotypes from the very beginning.

I do find the Noah/Mio romance a bit cheesy... but that's me. I am just not one for this type of romance. Eunie and Taion or Sena and Lanz are more subtle/not as in your face, to the point where they might not be romances at all, depending on how you want to see it. And as such I end up feeling them more.

But regardless of the romance... just. What.

One of my first theories was the good ol' simulation theory and I might actually have been right. But then the game probably just wants me to think that. Because honestly that's too stereotypical JRPG for a Xenoblade game.

Also what is it with Riku. Honestly who is that guy? Y'all can't tell me he just stumbled upon a super powerful sword that HAPPENS to look like the one N is hiding in his sheith, and just decided to GIFT it to someone who HAPPENS to look like N. Like shit like this ain't happening just like that folks. This Nopon knows more than he let's on.

Manana is just adorable tho, period.

Anyways... I'll press save now and watch the first few cutscenes of Chapter 6 and then go to bed...at 2am or smth (that cutscene was long lol)

Finally finished, good think I didn't fall in the trap of the end of chapter 5 and went to the bathroom before the final boss lol.

Overall great experience, a lot more polished than 1 and 2 even if there were somethings I really wanted here, like the custom difficulty from 2 as its great for replays.

The story was more streamlined this time, but there are some things I still didn't get

1. Is the black fog explained? I know there are quest post game, but considering this also appeared in XB1 FC it was never mentioned aside "Moebius can't see through it"
2. Whats the deal with the nopons in general? Are they like a super race? Because even one Moebius mentioned "they don't interfere" and sure enough, they seem to live outside the rules of Z and the control / rebirth cycle (and they exist in both worlds)

Neither of those things are really directly addressed.
One can assume the black fog is an indication that Moebius' efforts are ultimately futile and the worlds are slowly destroying each other anyway, but it goes weirdly unaddressed in the narrative.

Also, it is really unclear what's up with the Nopon. Being vaguely neutral war profiteers is a very Nopon thing to do, but why or how they're allowed to live outside the cycle is very unclear and honestly feels like a bit of a plot hole.

I just found out there are some locations that aren't even registerable without completing hero ascension quests so I'm done trying to complete the maps now. LOL

Eunie best girl

Change my mind

(Both Mio and Sena are lovely, the former is pretty damn amazing, but Eunie is so… there)
I think she might be my favourite character in the series. Everyone else is getting ready to preemptively complain for when the soundtrack gets skipped over again at the game awards, for me it’ll be her voice actress not getting nominated for best performance.

Honestly the voice acting in this game is fantastic just across the board, for the most part. Shout out to Noah's VA, too, especially
How he plays N during all the flashback scenes at the end of Chapter 5, and his anguish when he realizes what happened to M

Is there a low level 80s zone? Unless I’m forgetting something there’s a big gap between Elgares Depths and the Sword. Is it tied to a quest? I’ve found two areas beyond these to get to 99 comfortably. I’m not using bonus XP.

Edit: I forgot about the right/east path out of Agnus Castle. Not perfect, but it’ll do I guess.

I think sub-maps count. Have you been to
the underground maze area
and everywhere in
Upper Aetia
?

I was going to say that, the skirmishes and enemies ther are 82-85

Yeah shame it is such a small spot, but it definitely works out. I’m at level 78 and they are going down quick. Boss fight is level 91 so uh, probably avoiding him lol. I might peek inside the next area, but I’ll probably focus on side quests for a bit. Don’t need to rush through the last of this.

Hey all, I've slowly been enjoying the game since launch. Just get to play on weekends, so just started chapter 4 today. Something I can't quite figure out, and no luck looking for answers online... how does one raise the interlink level during battle? All I've seen is using fusion arts, but it seems either inconsistent or that there must be more to it, because often I feel like I exclusively use fusion arts and I can barely get to interlink lvl 1 or 2 even during a longer battle.

Also Elgares Depth works really well, even if they are 78-80, , most of them are unique so you allways get bonus exp

Interlink level slowly increases over time, but there's no visual indication of how close it is to increasing. Using fusion arts just shortens the time until it increases. It takes a while even with regular fusion use to hit level 3. There are some accessories that speed up the rate, that's the only way I know to make it faster.

Click ZL and Right on the D-Pad to have your party "prioritize fusion arts".

It will also get better the more master arts slots you unlock. Once you have all of that unlocked, it's a lot less rare.

holy shit
more like Mechlia Antiqua amirite
goddamn, this is such a Takahashi game

If you pick arts with low cool downs you can charge up fusion arts and thus interlink faster. Also eventually there is a job that gives you a fast recharge field (like the attack up and HP recovery fields you’ve seen). Learn that skill or have someone with that job in and you will fill up Interlink super duper fast.

I really want to start looking up the soundtrack, but also really want to avoid spoilers still... hmm... I guess I'm just going to have to finally finish the game, huh?

I just realized
I just realized Melia's mech has fuckin Telethia wings 🤯

Just finished the beginning of chapter 6. A lot of really great stuff, but something that really bothered me as well.

Everything involving Mio, Noah, N, and M? Beautiful stuff. Like top tier Xenoblade stuff. Lanz and Sena trying to pull a heroic sacrifice? Awesome! The twist with the body swap? Loved it. The reveal of this game’s “Xenoblade”! Here for it.
But.
Holy shit do I really freaking dislike both Shania and Ghondor. Like, yes Shania is a villain and you’re supposed to hate villains, but she’s not so much hateable as frustrating, the embodiment of “I’m 14 and edgey”. And Ghondor is just super freaking grating. Like, her voice and her personality are just so insufferable.
Again all the main party and Moebius stuff was sincerely great. But man did the framing with those two characters really annoy me.

I felt similarly, but there's a later quest that helps with this. Exactly how much it helps, YMMV, but it did have some things that were sorely needed for those two characters in it, and I wish they had found a way to put it in earlier.

Absolutely agreed. One of the few things I dislike about the game.

Credits rolling on Xenoblade Chronicles Three.
So first of all, that was not the ending I was expecting. At all. I figured the worlds coming together was supposed to be destructive, and the desire to hold the worlds in their frozen state was to avoid the literal end of both. Would not have guessed they were gonna pass through each other all chill and that Moebius have been pissing themselves over nothing for centuries.

Although I guess that's the moral of the story where Moebius is concerned.

So a few things I didn't catch:
  • Why did the two worlds pass across each other in the first place..? Was there something more than the explanation of "the worlds really wanted to see each other again?"
  • Where did Lucky Seven come from and how/why was it given to Noah? I get that it was made of the metal of Origin but why? How? Who? Noah said something early on about wanting to give the sword a different name so I swore we were gonna hear the name "Monado" drop at some point but.. the origin and path of the sword seemed sorta dropped.
  • Why was one of the City Founders literally Shulk, but nothing ever came of that? I was waiting for some massive reveal about who they all were but all we ever got was that an earlier Noah and Mio were among them.
  • What was the fog and the cause of the annihilation events? We saw that Moebius Interlinks overloading will do it, but.. is that what caused the big chunk to be taken out of Uraya? Some rando Interlink from centuries past?
  • I sorta understand that Z and the Moebius were the embodiment of the fear and uncertainty of people moving towards the future post-incursion but.. how? How did that come to be? Did the incursion actually start to wreck the worlds and Origin began doing its thing but the fears of the people it was housing/recreating hijacked it?
  • Which ending is the true ending? The one where Noah and his crew drift away from Mio and hers, and the worlds separate cleanly? Or the one post-credits where young Noah and the others were off the the fireworks show, looking as though the incursion never happened? Did time reset and now Aionios never existed, nor our Noah or N and M? Mio's diary quote at the end made it sound like she was still around, still going on, because enough time had passed for her to literally forget what Noah even looked like. How can our versions of the characters still exist if the young Noah ending makes it appear as though the events and history of the game never happened?
  • Following the last two questions: maybe sorta both? Did the worlds actually break apart after they separated and then Origin repaired them in the state they previously were, thus giving us the Young Noah ending? Did our Noah and the team get to live out their lives while Origin did its work?
  • Do I understand the Lifehold Origin correctly? It was built to house all the information and material needed to recreate the world after the incursion, right? I realize a ton of what I asked above hinges on my understanding of that being accurate. 😅
I'm sure there's more but that's all I can dig out of my head at the moment. I was waiting for some big outrageous reveal at the end like they did with XB1&2 but we got... a very focused ending that was about the characters. Which is neat! Great, even! But damned if it didn't leave me wondering what the hell all happened.

XB1&2's massive endgame reveals and lore dumps didn't bug me or lose me at all, matter of fact they're some of my favorite parts. But then.. as much as I love this game and it's focus on the main cast, it kinda went the opposite way from I expected it to in terms of story and setting. Like my mind was watching and waiting for things that simply didn't come, so now its looking around going "but where's the other stuff?" despite the beauty it just witnessed. Sort of like... I hate to say it... Breath of the Wild. 😅

Oh! And uh.. according to the game, 110 hours. According to my Switch profile, 115.

But then.. as much as I love this game and it's focus on the main cast, it kinda went the opposite way from I expected it to in terms of story and setting.

Lots of stuff is vague, but I’ll add my thoughts

- The two worlds coming together is probably a result of Klaus and the conduit disappearing. That’s kind of the theory I’ve been seeing.

- I took annihilation events as kind of a metaphor. a counter to Moebius’ whole viewpoint wanting to stay in the present. They put off their future in the sense that they stopped the worlds from annihilating completely, but you can’t put it off forever - and that’s the annihilation events. It’s slowly happening.

- As for the founders, that’s the top prediction for DLC. Right now it’s just a cool lore tease, much less than what was established for Torna in base XC2, but it does line up with the 3 swords in the picture considering it provides a way for old Shulk and Rex to be involved.

- That is my understanding of Z, yes. Origin is a supercomputer that housed human souls and emotions. The fear that all of those souls held caused it to go haywire and produce Z, Y, and X. It is still pretty vague though, but I’m very cool with that theory thematically.

- Lucky Seven/Riku was also a tease imo. Like blatantly teased multiple times, not a “oh shit we forgot to explain this” moment. It seemed purposely teased. So hopefully DLC follows up on that.

see, I was concerned about the story DLC thinking they'd shoehorn a random extra chapter or something into the middle of the story, but if they go all-out and do a prequel about everything you mentioned??

I'd pre-order the physical of that shit just like I did Torna. 😎

To catch you up, the main camps for DLC speculation are either a Founders prequel or an epilogue. The things in favor of a prequel include

- taking place in Aionios means gameplay stuff like the Iris system, fusion arts, and even Ouroboros (because the founders were the first ones) can still factor in. Similar to how Torna was very much like base XC2 in gameplay with some streamlined tweaks (in 3’s case, I’d assume this would be less heroes and class customization) and it made sense to be that way.

- The founders were teased with those character descriptions in the statue hall, lots of stuff that just screams that they’ve planned out character dynamics and stories for these people (How Shulk had kind of an adopted daughter, how Rex influenced the founding Ouroboros with his cheerful energetic nature, how the two Keves and Agnus soldiers met on the battlefield and then were saved by the other 4 founders etc.). It’s not nearly as set up as Torna was in XC2 and would be much more of an unknown, but the seed for it is planted

The support for an epilogue is, for me, mainly that Takahashi stated “those who play Xenoblade 3 and the additional story content in the expansion pass will be able to get a hint at what the future holds for the Xenoblade series.”

Personally I find the founders one more set up by the game, and would fit the very successful Torna mold more than an epilogue would, but lots of people disappointed in the ending want an epilogue. I’m not ruling either out and would be fine with both!

Who knows, they may even find a way to do both. An epilogue framed by a retelling of events past, idk.

They did say the goal is to provide content of a scope that rivals Torna, so I wouldn’t worry about

an extra chapter shoehorned in

I had taken a break for a while, but I’ve been back at in between posting on Fami (some fun discussions tonight!). I decided to press on with the level 87+ area even though I was regularly ten levels below enemies. I’ve ignored the unique monsters, but I’ve been hanging in there so I went to the second to last area and have been fine too. While I’m still working through that, it’s pretty cool to say my party can hang with all normal and elite monsters now even if they come in groups as some level 95s are hanging around here.

Have a question for the thread, what are your favorite jobs to play as? I’m bouncing around classes again and I think the martial artist is perhaps my favorite. With the right kit and team, you can regularly deal more than 30 thousand damage with a fusion art and the recharge for moves is so short! The blowback move is great fun and the evade attack makes combat more active as you can dodge big blows reliably. I feel so in control of fights with this job, it’s so cool.
