Updates on MK8 DLC and Bayonetta 3 have to be imminent.

I could maybe see very early August for both of them, but no later than that.

Feels like a lot of things are lining up for a presentation of some sort.

Personally I'm losing faith that there will be hardware there.
short answer, me too

long answer, we probably won't get any insider hints when we're close, so I still think it could come at pretty much any time

Majoras Mask was immediately controversial back then because of the time mechanic so I don't know if it would have got more of an impact then Wind Waker. Which was also controversial to say the least.

But a I guess that Gamecube graphics would have helped Majoras Mask shine a lot more.

The biggest problem for the Gamecube was the competition and their and its own marketing tho.

I think having any Zelda day 1 would have helped, since their big day 1 game being Luigi's Mansion garnered a lot of not pleasant reactions at the time, especially with how short that game was. And MM's time mechanics I think probably would have been made less frustrating for kids/general audiences if the game had more dev time and was positioned as a launch game looking at how they changed that for MM3D. I don't think it would have mattered too much in the long run though.

If we’re talking about console sellers, I don’t know what else would work better than BotW2.

It doesn’t need to live up to the first game, nor should it be expected to. But it’s still a brand new open world Zelda game that follows up what many consider to be the best game of the previous decade and one of the greatest games of all time. That’s got money written all over it.

Spicy opinion: it’s been 5 years of development time, people should 100% expect it to live up to the first game. I believe that it will.

sounds like worst case we get a Mario Kart tweet and/or drop
That’ll still be the most Nintendo has done for me since Kirby came out (Strikers had such a botched launch with me and the group who bought it)

I'd be satisfied with a Bayo 3 release date trailer that confirms 2022 and Mario Kart DLC next week. Splatoon 3 feels likely too. Prime HD is my most hyped game of the year but with Live A Live and Xenoblade 3 carrying me through the rest of summer easily, along with probably picking up Splatoon 3, I'm not exactly wanting for games.

yeah. even with Covid and all I still think this is a hefty amount of time for a "safe" BotW sequel. It will have its own identity and legacy for sure.

Yeah nobody knew when the Lite or OLED were being announced either, the announcement will be a complete surprise to everyone.

But I'm just not feeling the vibe.

I’m interested to see what they have done with the map in BotW 2 compared to the original. I know we have sky areas and maybe underground but I hope actual Hyrule is a lot more built up and feature filled, show how the people have rebuilt Hyrule since the events of the first game.

Again, BotW is regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. No game, no matter how long the development time, should have expectations that high.

Now, that’s not equivalent to setting expectations at Low Budget Iterative Sequel™. It’s been long enough that we should anticipate something innovative and exciting. But setting the standard at the heights BotW reached is setting yourself up for disappointment; odds are much, much higher that it falls short, rather than meeting or surpassing them.

Just expect a really damn good Zelda game. Can’t ask for much more than that.

honestly it would be enough if botw2 lived up to the pre-release expectations for the game

massive dungeons, destructible environments, substantially better visuals

Destructible environments? Has that been rumored or hoped for?

Would be NUTS with BOTW's art design, holy shit
The very first teaser trailer at E3 2014 showed a guardian destroying a small wooden bridge and people thought the terrain or world in general could be more destructible.

They still implemented destruction of certain platforms and structures in the game but thats about it.

EDIT: To be specific about this I don't know how destructible environments could help a game like Zelda. Its prone to be instantly game breaking when it comes to level design and gating. And from a gameplay perspective I fail how it would benefit the game so much that it would make the effort of implementing it worth it.

These fake Zelda subtitles are always so damn nonsensical. No Zelda subtitle has ever been a jumbled mess of words. Every single subtitle has made sense in the context of the game's story. Like make something like Ocarina of Time or something if you want anyone to even entertain your "leak" for more than a second.

I have to admit, my hype for botw2 is pretty much at 0, not because I think the game will be bad or underwhelming but we have seen so little that the game pretty much doesn't exist to me; I just can't be hyped about it when we pretty much know nothing substantial about the game and how it plays or it's story. Of course when we'll get the first true trailer it's going to be a different story but before that point I'll just keep it out of my mind.
Instead please just give me a release date for bayo 3 next week, it's the only thing I ask.

Can't believe you aren't fond of subtitles
like "The darkest Darkness brutally returns"

I still think about BotW 2s title and I think they should call it

The Legend of Zelda: Suffering from Success

they're not gonna wait for the splatoon oled to come out before they talk about hardware

if they don't announce it in the next month they're not going to until the game awards or later

Waiting for the Splatoon OLED to release is the new ‘letting Animal Crossing breath’

Why would they announce a limited edition OLED if any sort of new hardware announcement was close
They do that kinda all the time, though usually they wait a lot longer than a week.

But they almost always have a special edition version of the old console release shortly before or after a new revision is released.

I can def see some version of like a switch 4k being released with BOTW2, but for a legitimate switch successor, I still don't see that releasing until at least early 2024. Think of the timing between skyword sword and wii u, I could see the switch successor coming out a year after botw2

In terms of potential botw2 subtitle names, I once jokingly thought of Revenge of the Fallen and that is all I think about when thinking of the game lol so there is my fake botw2 name lol tbh I like the idea of Ghirahim also coming back (even tho it is a very low chance lol) hence the name. They could always bring back others too for funnsies besides just Ganondorf

I don't think the Pro or 2 will be announced anytime soon if it's not being released this year.

Nintendo won't sabotage their Holiday sales. That time is sacred for them.

Nintendo has spent so much god damned money and time on botw2, it has enormous expectations to live up to
All they have to do is make Zelda playable and everyone will be fine lol.

But since they won’t do that.

It’ll still have an easier time to shatter expectations. I don’t think folks realize how much impact a huge story and set piece boss battles can make, plus actual dungeons.

I still to this day. Am shock how well BOTW reviewed lol. Didn’t have a huge Story and mediocre dungeons and bosses which is a huge part of the series. They nailed what I felt was gonna be their hardest challenge on their first goal. BOTW 2 with added great dungeons, better story and awesome bosses? Oh boy. That’s a winner

worst case scenario: general direct + switch pro reveal

best case scenario: the gotg aka stinky horse gets its own direct

Are we pumped/very optimistic for Monday morning or are we looking at a different week?

There is a 0% chance of anything to be hyped about being announced on Monday.

Tuesday, however, is a different story. Anything goes for the rest of the week.

I don't really think its that hard to understand why the game was rated so highly back then and why it to this day is still beloved and acclaimed.

Its the very first modern 3D Zelda Open World game that set new standards when it comes to freedom, mobility, systems and physics and combining all of these things in a homogene package.

It came at a perfect time were open world games became stale and predictable. It was a new standard for open world games and in many ways it still it surpassed imo. So the balance they have to find now is not undoing the things that made BotW special and beloved in tje first place, polishing it up even more AND implementing things people missed like dungeons and some kind of more linear progression. Be it story, character or gameplay wise.

I'm just not sure we'll get anything substantial from Nintendo this upcoming week. I do expect something Pokemon related though.

It always made me laugh how fake "leaked" Zelda titles always were really dark and edgy. Fans have this idea that the Zelda series is some kind of dark epic fantasy, meanwhile the "darkest" entry in the franchise has stuff like this:

Kirby games are more scary than Zelda ones...

Just got a job that’ll make me able to pay my mortgage for the month on 1 check which ya think be my first thought.

Except. It wasn’t it.

It was “dang, I’ll be working when Xenoblade 3 launches and won’t get to play till days later”.

What can I say 🤷🏽‍♀️

In all seriousness. This will take a load of my back regarding money. 😊
I'm so lttp here, but huge congrats buddy!

I was referring to a Monday/Tuesday announcement, but yeah I can totally see them delaying an announcement due to the former Prime Minister's death.
Monday is the anniversary of Satoru Iwata's death, which Kit and Krysta have mentioned is an off-limits day of the year for Nintendo moving forward since his death. Tuesday is the first day an announcement of some kind can be reasonably expected.

Some kind of announcement possibly dropping on Tuesday, plus Emmy nominations coming out that same day, hopefully showering Better Call Saul with all the acclaim it rightfully deserves, gonna have me hyped. Both or neither could pan out, it'll be interesting
