@poop I have to imagine this uses cloud play data

My mind is reeling at the implications of there being two independent game time tracking mechanisms for the same platform
I doubt it. The play time you see on the Switch is stored server side, that's how your friends can see it. Additionally, when I was messing around with the desynced playtime just now, I'd see the playtime from whichever Switch I had most recently gone online in that game with - which wasn't necessarily the Switch I was using to view it.

The issue is that it seems to be a rather rudimentary system where the Switch just uploads whatever it has stored locally, and the server overwrites whatever it had upon receiving it. Outside of whatever's going on with cloud saves, it doesn't seem to ever pull from the server.

Yikes, but it actually sounds kinda easily but most users don't actually have Switch here so we are fucked.

I am very well aware of that but it was only a beginning, Splatoon kinda trailer manifestation was next (it was the OLED trailer I know), prediction of Splatoon 3 wishing summer art. Oh yeah, protect me at all cost, am about to be a next insider.

One does not become an insider. An insider becomes you. Watch out, you could be next

Thats my point that saying AAA is today's view is equated to super expensive and good looking games. The whole rating thing is a mess. Like the example you gave, if you ask someone are Persona/Yakuza/Arise AAA jrpgs, they would most likely say yes, but their technically arent. And for their respective companies(I guess minus Namco) they were expensive projects.
Yakuza as a franchise has struggled to sell 1m+ during it's whole lifespan is hard to justify a franchise being AAA if selling 1.5m is a huge success for them (Y7), Persona/Tales Of the same we are talking about franchises that for them selling 2m+ is overperforming already (or at least it was for their latest entries this will probably will change with the next Persona/Tales). (btw, this is the case for most BNS franchises outside of Tekken, they are experts at making people believe their games are AAA when most are in the 2-3m range and for them this is a success)

I think that the issue is that people try to think as AAA as the 'best' or most successful games when is just a 'financial/marketing' term to identify really expensive games that have big impact on the big publishers (usually western) financials, it has nothing to do with the quality or polish of the product. Xenoblade has a big budget compared to most JRPGs but that doesn't make it AAA when the genre itself doesn't have AAA games almost (in huge part because sales don't justify it)

My understanding is that this Japanese android app shows a more accurate playtime history, which would be difficult if it's pulling straight from the server where it's constantly being overwritten by Switches with different playtimes

You'd think that if the gap in the Splatoon tournament was to announce a global testfire, they'd have announced the Splatoon OLED model then too.

I think. It makes sense in my head lol.

I would love more than anything to allow voluntary access between Famiboards and a member's Nintendo Account data in order to display currently playing, playtime, play history information on Famiboards

Kind of like what @Mi460 made for Discord.
I would 100% activate this if it existed. Such a fun idea.

So we would see how many users here are actually playing games?
Fuck, nevermind

That Splatoon OLED reveal really puts the kibosh on them doing anything solely dedicated to Splatoon 3 next week, imo.

I very strongly agree. It really feels like Nintendo is parting the Red Sea this month. This past week especially.

The app only syncs with Japanese accounts :(
So play data is there, but it's only accessible for Japanese accounts?

That should make @poop's idea fairly simple, then, considering we're all weebs

When Splatoon 3 releases I want Fami to be Splatoon themed. Wario was and Splatoon won't? If not am done here.
But if it's not an April Fool's joke we actually have to make it look good.

I mean, I think so, but the entire account tab is just asking me to sign in. I can't see anything that would normally be there.

We know the Switch counts playtime down to the minutes, because there's a homebrew mod out there that displays that information.

I don't see next week being anything other than a Super Mario RPG 2 announcement. A collaboration between Nintendo and Square.

if you talk about it from the sales perspective than yeah the genre doesn't have many (heck Ring Fit Adventure is a AAA JRPG lol).

But yeah I agree that the whole marketing what "identify" those games, like there are genre's that technically dont have AAA games. Like I cant wait for the "AAA" visual novels or shmups lol.

Bandai is the most interesting company for this example, outside of their anime collabs and tekken, their most successful franchise is pac-man and tales. Both franchises that have a history in the industry but have been outsold by MK8 lol

the Splatoon OLED trailer not really indicating anything

I was really hoping it helped the narrative
It still does imo. Animal crossing didn't get a direct for another three weeks, which was far too late to announce the system.

There's still evidence of something next week, and Splatoon 3 doesn't really make sense.

If we don't have an announcement by Tuesday I'm just going to start a discussion thread where we can all talk about past directs. Like a group rewatch or something. We've got 10 years of material to cover. Directs are retro now.

What evidence?

I will admit that a testfire is kinda now or never (heh). If we get to August without one, I think we either get a repeat of the Splatfest World Premiere or nothing. They don't really need to do a whole network test when they have... all of Splatoon 2's uptime.

I already commented on this. The 20th was too late to announce the system. There's a big difference between a one week gap and three.

For reference, a Splatoon 3 Direct next week would still have more lead time before the OLED release date than the AC model got with its tweet.
