It's been my theory for a while that Drake will blur that line, yeah. Like it'll come out and be positioned as a premium option with better resolution, but is so powerful that as the years go on more and more exclusive games get made for it until it's essentially the new "main" Switch, as the Mariko units get discontinued. Then years after that a newer, more powerful SoC than Drake will come out in a newer, more powerful Switch that'll be positioned as the premium alternate to Drake, until it eventually replaces the Drake unit. IIRC Iwata even said he wanted to adopt the Apple way of upgrading the hardware while keeping the software ecosystem consistent across upgrades. That way people who want the new fancy graphics can have them, and people who don't need them can get the base model and be fine with 1080p cap and (in some cases) lower framerates. The Switch and its software are already built with scaling and flexibility in mind, so having a huge library of games that use the different Switch hardware profiles to run in one optimized state for Mariko handheld, another for Mariko docked, and now another for Drake handheld, and another for Drake docked, seems like a natural way for this system to tackle smooth succession.

That's why the whole line-in-the-sand argument about "pro vs 2" kinda baffles me. I'm pretty convinced it'll be both. An iterative successor, and from what I've read over the last year and a half it seems like a lot of others are, too. 🤷‍♂️

I don't know. I just looked at the banned user list and it stated that they were perma banned for off-site transphobic comments at fami members. But this is off-topic, so I just say good riddance.

In the interest of clarity and respect to the broader Famiboards community, I intend to make some improvements to the thread going forward. Primary among them is my goal to summarize current speculation in a threadmarked post. My intention is that no one will feel completely out of the loop and that people will not be frustrated by the changing attitude in the thread. As much as I've enjoyed the chaotic tone of the past few days, I think that leaving some guideposts will not detract from the comedy of the thread.

Additionally, I have some other minor changes in the works. These won't be anything significant, but I hope you look forward to them.

I think this thread can be improved by adding in more cocaine and more Ancient Aliens. It's a pretty slow moving thread and it needs to be amped up a bit.

Something to keep in mind with the SP3 SWOLED is that the game was originally intended to launch earlier in the summer, likely in July or even August. I think the hardware was always going to launch prior to the game's launch, so while some people may think "oh it's too close to a potential Drake announcement, the original gap would have been quite a bit larger. So now the "gap" or potentially the lack of one between the S3 OLED is much smaller if not nonexistent.
