We will get Everybody's 1-2 Switch announcement, similiarly to how Ring Fit was revealed, then media previews will come right after. The game will be available for NSO + Expansion Pack members in few days.

In the source I read it was just the boxes and covers, not the cartridges.

The boxes can be reused, you would only have to assume the losses of the covers (which are just colored paper).

We rarely hear about games that look so bad that Nintendo is considering not releasing them, so I wouldn't at all be shocked if this never really sees the light of day.

The sad part seems to be that it's basically EPD 4 Jackbox. Like, there's already 8 of these out there that they could have researched.
 
Nintendo hinted at Everybody's 1-2 Switch when they were making BOTW in it's concepts.

seriously, if you squint everything we know about the game sounds like a future cult classic that switch kids will put on a pedestal with no way to play it again. a man in a horse mask named "horse" is the host. it's like jackbox but seemingly with a 3D environment and player avatars. and lobbies of 100 players! it's fortnite! I wouldn't be surprised if they add platforming in some way. it will define the switch for a future generation, because the game will have soul.

If they really are desperately trying to fix Everybody's 1-2 Switch, I expect an incredibly short turnaround from announcement to release. Like, maybe three weeks.

I would love a Saturn drop in the modern era, where there are tons of leaks and people start seeing it on shelves early wondering "what the fuck is that?"

a weird viral marketing scheme would be just the thing to save a weird disaster game
 
Kouichi Kawamoto the leader of EPD4 is a producer of 1-2 Switch and Labo and many other titles but most importantly he is the Nintendo Switch hardware Director, that's the reason why Switch has things like IR camera for titles like 1-2 Switch or Labo, so do you know what that means? They will release a Joy-Con with microphone alongside Everybody's 1-2 Switch so you can scream and shit your friends in lobbies.
 
They could choose the coward's path and drop E12S right after the new Switch announcement, hoping it goes unnoticed.
Or they can choose the hero's path and make it a launch title...
 
Imagine if all the official marketing material is like that very first Ring Fit Adventure teaser where they don't even show off the game

This year at the Game Awards:

As Geoff Keighley opens the letter with the winner of the GOTY award a naked guy wearing a horse mask runs on the stage holding a copy of the game up in the air and throws additional copies into the crowd.

Geoff sees this and tears up the letter.

In fact in E's1-2S anything you say to the mic is converted into scream and shitting on your friends. "Hey nice game" becomes "fuck you, you cheater piece of shit".
