I saw a YouTube comparing it to Smash Ultimate, but if it launched with only final destination and 10 characters.
Yes, with all items on being the only way to play online.

I personally like it a lot, but it is very flawed game in many different ways.

September isn’t set in stone anymore, in my opinion. They could bump up a September Direct to October.
The September directs have always been tied to TGS, which is happening this year so no reason to discount it. 3rd parties will have games they want to announce/give updates on and they need to do it before the show

Yeah. Strikers doesn’t seem to have good word to mouth either. People calling it barebones and not good online. It’s not going to do well. I agree they have another title coming.
I dont think it is lm4 btw, i think those are an "one per console" situation. I also think its not a new punch out, that is also low budget and chances are it would undersell strikers too. But i also hope it isnt cause its not my kind of game.

I really hope its sonething new for nlg, not specifically a new ip (although id be super happy if it was) but more like something they havent done before. Star Fox?...Eternal Darkness Spiritual Sequel? 😏. Ice Climbers Reboot? FZERO S?

I just hope it isnt FF2 lmao. Im not against NLG doing another Troid game as long as it isnt low budget shit.

What's the rationale for the existence of #TeamSeptember already? I mean, I wouldn't object to a Direct for my birthday this year but like seriously, there's nothing launching in August by Nintendo. If you want to make a case for !July then that's one thing, as Nintendo usually waits until their big quarterly release goes out the door before starting the next batch of hype and with Xenoblade waiting until the last possible day of the month for release then that would suggest an to early-to-mid August Direct.

Otherwise I hope #TeamSeptember is prepared to wait until middle of month after Splatoon 3 launches.

I'd say given the release schedule and the mysterious hole in that Splatoon 2 event that it's either first half of July or sometime in August until more data comes in. They're not doing it in the back-half of July when it's peak weeb time and they want all eyes on Live A Live and XC3.

I tested positive for covid the same night as the partner showcase, and to pass the time, I binged the first 3 seasons of Stranger Things and...

HOLY

SHIT!

That is true. But even in comparison to the previous entries, it's selling worse (in Japan at least)
It had a lower launch than GC Strikers but better launch than Wii Strikers and Wii Strikers legged it to beat LTD of GC Strikers so something like that could happen again.

I don’t see them touching FF2. They’re not going to touch that with the history and negativity tied to it. I’d love for them to do something else. They seem like they can put out games fairly quickly. There will be at a point where they want to do something different imo.

Honestly, I don’t think Strikers will be a title for every console (same with Punch-Out). Luigi’s Mansion is the only one per generation I see. It would give them opportunities to work on other Nintendo IP’s like…3D DK or Wario Land or Star Fox, etc.

Based on what? Nintendo hasn't done a General Direct after September in the entire Switch era. I know, patterns and all, but I see no reason why they'd change that now.

The rationale is simple: TGS. Pretty much the ONLY commonality and pattern we have that still holds is that Nintendo always does a Direct the week before TGS, usually focused more on third party stuff. Even in 2020 with Partner Showcases and that whole situation, they still did the biggest Partner and the Monster Hunter Direct the week before TGS. It happens every year.

Now they might do something else before TGS, like a random July Mini or Twitter Drops, but I'd still be willing to bet we're getting a September Direct at the usual time. TGS this year is September 15th-18th, so maybe they sneak it in on the 13th or something to avoid Splatoon 3 week, but even then I doubt it. Early September still seems most likely.

I am gonna be selfish and say it: I wish Splatoon would be a singleplayer only title in the style of a 3rd Person Metroidvania.

Don't hurt me pls

That is true. But even in comparison to the previous entries, it's selling worse (in Japan at least). And it's also underperforming compared to Camelot's sports offerings by a pretty large margin.

Maybe the start of the soccer season and the holidays will give it a nice push. But kinda hard to say anything positive about its current performance.
Strikers sold more in Spain than Golf+Tennis and in France it sold more than in Japan first week. In Europe it has been a big hit so is too early to say it has underperformed

I mean, I wouldn't want to take away the game as it is now, but I would absolutely love this as a spinoff.

After Splatoon 2 I thought Nintendo would do a spin-off…like they do for all their huge IP’s. I would’ve guess something single player.

But they’re doing Splatoon 3. Can’t wait to see the Splatoon 3 Direct because I haven’t been really impressed from what I’ve seen so far

Why when Prime 4 exists?
because Prime isn't 3rd person and I can't really think of an amazing one right now:

I just love all the movement options, bosses, enemies, weapons and systems in place. I think they would really shine in a metroidvania style game with upgrades, exploration and so on.

Why not both? Have an early-to-mid Direct in July focusing on 1st party stuff for the Fall/Winter and hints at what's coming in early 2022, and then a partner focused one around TGS like you say (and hopefully an Indie World around BitSummit in August).

Right now we only have dates for Splatoon 3 and S&V which are September and November. We still don't know if there's a Mario or Zelda this year or what form those will take. And like I said earlier, there's nothing launching in August with Nintendo as a publisher. I just think not having a major marketing event until Septermber is waiting too long unless we've got a drought coming up which seems very unlikely with how on fire they've been this year.

At this point I think it's very likely Mario + Rabbids is the major Mario title for later in 2022. It's got the October launch window that the Mario Party titles had, and which Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 had.

That being said, I agree Nintendo have more; I just don't expect to see something from EPD other than a casual title from EPD 4. Nintendo don't always publish in August, too; if we have Advance Wars, Bayonetta 3, an EPD 4 title, and Prime HD in the September through December period that's a strong line up.

It really bums me out because I love Charged and I was so hyped for there to finally be a new Strikers. And then it had like barely any of the content of Charged.

It's funny too because I was critical of the lack of content before release, but people on reddit kept downvoting me for it.

EPD launching Switch Sports, Splatoon 3, Kart DLC, a 1-2 Switch sequel and Breath of the Wild 2 in one fiscal year would be a strong turn out from them, I think. And it'd be the most consistent level of output since the 2019 to 2020 fiscal year.

That's assuming Zelda makes late March, of course...

There must be something EPD Tokyo there, their game should be close to finish now or should I say games being 2D and 3D one. EPD 9 is also a mystery with only 8 Deluxe track support.

Even if the games are finished or close to finished, there's no guarantee Nintendo decide now is the right time for them.

For me it hangs on Zelda. If Zelda is early in the spring, and especially if it's in the fiscal year, I don't see Nintendo having another EPD title (outside Splatoon 3 and 1-2 Switch 2) before that.

I think Zelda might wind up in April or May, honestly

I just want to know what the heck is the Super Mario Odyssey team doing for the past 5 years?! You can't hide from me, Koizumi. I want that Donkey Kong Jungle Beat 2 right NOW.

Yeah, that's how I'm feeling. But I truly feel we're getting a Splatoon 3 Direct in August. Nearly 2 months feels too early
Yeah that’s the thing. Nintendo doesn’t do the game specific directs that early. It’s always a monthish early. Maybe in July they announce the Splatoon 3 Testfire I can see.
