Oh hey lol, yeah
For starters, I had trouble with Final Fantasy 7 because I had the digital version before I got the physical... and the physical version seems to be a different release branch than that of the digital version. The moment I popped in the physical cart, the digital version was unplayable because the save data was incompatible. The only way I could fix this was to take my Switch Lite (which also had FF7 on it) and "match version across devices" to put the digital copy on my main Switch back to its original version.

If you give me a list of games, I can let you know which ones I can test.
Ah, yeah, Final Fantasy VII was another one I wasn’t sure about—I went with the digital version because I assumed the physical version wouldn’t be compatible since it was bundled with Final Fantasy VIII (which I had no interest in, anyway; I’m not much of a Final Fantasy fan myself and mostly only got VII because Cloud and Sephiroth are in Smash, lol), but this was also before I knew that double-pack physical Switch games like this actually are truly two separate titles on one game card, with icons for both games appearing on your HOME Menu and each having separate save data and play time records and all, rather than being some single combo-pack title. So after learning that I wasn’t sure anymore, but it seems that, according to your account, it’s not exactly the same version? But then you were able to make it be the same version still?? That’s very interesting and not what I’d expect, huh…

Anyway, thanks a ton for offering to help with this!! Honestly, I’d like to know any games that have different content (like DLC included), titles (such as Sonic Mania vs. Sonic Mania Plus), or publishers (e.g. Undertale digital being published by 8-4 while its physical version seems to be published by Fangamer—you can check publisher for sure on the +/- HOME Menu screen since it seems like it doesn’t always match up to be the same as what the box says), though I’m not sure how large of a list that is for the games you own or not. Don’t want to ask for too much, of course. I may have to think on it awhile to come up with a smaller list of titles that I personally would want to know for my own potential ownership (the ones I listed in my previous post would all be ones I’d want to know for sure if you have them, though, plus some others like the Pokémon Sword/Shield DLC bundle and Untitled Goose Game—I think that latter shares the same publisher but I’m not certain), though learning about these differences for any games is helpful to me because it helps me see how consistent this stuff is or not, which may in turn make me adjust my rules for physical vs. digital games on Switch, lol.

EDIT: Actually, if you happen to have a list of all your games (I know most people don’t log this information in a spreadsheet like I do, lol, but just in case), it might be easier to just send me that and I can go through it myself to see what I’d want checked most! But if you don’t already have that then no worries, lol.

You're missing Zombie Army 4 Dead War, which is kinda sad because apparently it's one of those miracle ports where devs went hell and back to bring it to Switch. I'm definitely getting it day one, the first one on Switch was crazy fun.

Sorry if this discussion has been done to death, but how does everyone feel about physical vs. digital? I feel like I’m constantly flip flopping on it, which has made my library a bit awkwardly scattered. It came up in my thoughts again today with Kirby.

Lately I’ve been buying single player games (like Kirby and Zelda) physical, and then MP games and games I will continually return to (Splatoon and Animal Crossing) digitally... 🤷
I almost always go physical if possible. Besides just loving the collection aspect, Switch games do not download onto the system from the cartridge - they play off of it instead. So unlike PlayStation and Xbox, going physical has the benefit of saving on storage space, which I use for digital-only games or DLC.

That being said, I do have a couple of exceptions. I have Captain Toad digitally because I own the physical Wii U version, and I got Animal Crossing digitally because my physical preorder would not arrive in time for launch (I now pick up launch day games from the Best Buy near work). I also got a few games digitally I'm also not too fussed with limited run games and such - I'll get a game digitally if I want it, and I won't wait for a physical copy, nor will I necessarily rush to get a limited run game unless I really, really want it (like the Wonder Boy collection that has more than the digital version). I'm also not too fussy about DLC and "complete" versions. If I want a game, I won't wait to play it. A couple of games that came out physically also had deals that were too good to pass up, so that's why I went for those and not the physical.

I do wish that, for a few games, I had the extra money to reasonably get it physically after the digital release. Mostly a few indies that I really love, like Celeste or Shovel Knight, and I kinda wish I waited to get Collection of Mana physical instead of going digital. But that's a little silly, since I already got the complete package for all of those games digitally.

I think I'm going to hold off on Kirby for now despite how fun it looks. I'm still grinding away in Destiny, still making my way through Triangle Strategy, I got a bunch of backlog games, plus Chrono Cross comes out next month. I need to make progress with my games now before the onslaught of big, meaty games like Fire Emblem Three Hopes and Xenoblade 3 arrive later in the year.

Of course people don't set out to make bad games but that doesn't mean making a bad game means it was rushed. Every game designer wishes they had more time to ponder design decisions. Every game has flaws so by this logic, that means every game in existence was rushed. For many many games, hell even most games, the many flaws don't become apparent until the game is in the hands of the audience. From what I read, nothing seems to indicate that Yoshi's Crafty World was rushed. It seems technically fine and not loaded with game breaking bugs. It was already delayed for more polish. It seems like they created the game that they envisioned. Now you're free to critique that vision all you want. That's fine but I don't consider it to be healthier to just assume a game was rushed based on absolutely nothing.
Yeah in the end the facts say something else.
I guess it's jsut fans trying to come to terms with how the game turned out, while they were satisfied with what the dev made before.

those are not the only two ways to react to a game not being good
I mean of course, the internet just deals in extremes normally, so this actually feels like middleground for once.

Damn Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled is no joke. I'm in the first section of Adventure Mode and Roo's Tubes is kicking my ass. Why is Coco so fast?!

Oh yeah, it was on the direct. I did not know it was coming so soon.

This may have been fixed. They release some patches a few month ago.

The most tragic part of Crafted World for me, is that after years of pretty meh Yoshi games, Woolly World was something that finally hit close to those Yoshi Island feels, and was hoping that Good Feel would finally give the series a home of high quality games, but nope (I know that sounds dramatic, but I don't like the fact that the Yoshi platformers are essentially 2 flukes). Also what the hell happened to that soundtrack, like how do they go from Wario Land Shake It, Epic Yarn, and Woolly World's soundtrack to Crafted World.

Do you think Nintendo will win this console gen?
If you mean units sold of hardware vs PS4/Xbox One for sure (already has sold x2 Xbox and is going to catchup if nothing major happens PS4), PS5/Xbox Series a lot can happen and with the chip shortage it's even harder to predict , but if the next Nintendo hardware is part of the Switch family and not a new console I dont see how PS5/Xbox series could catch-up to Switch (1)+ Switch (2) units sold when just Switch (1) is almost impossible to catch.
(if you mean software sales I dont see it ,ps4 has sold double what Switch has sold software wise , yearly COD/Fifa/Madden/2k makes PS4 software sales elite tier)

If you're a weeb, you're gonna live 13 Sentinels and I'm not just talking about the mech stuff. If you enjoy watching anime shows where it's just student talking in at school, 13 Sentinels is right up your alley. If the thought of visiting iconic anime locations such as classroom, cafeteria, school rooftop, school entrance, by the vending machines, the locker room, and the train station excite you, then 13 Sentinels is your dream game.

I resent being called a weeb but the rest of this post excites me. if the shoe fits, etc

Game idea pitch: open air Kirby with the animal friends as vehicles, and in order to restore health you can eat... practically anything in the game world.

Managed to get over my worry over headaches from playing a game and I started dying light. I am intrigued by this game so far. Not far into it but I am liking it

Going back to HGSS and having to pay the move relearner in heartscales is one of the wildest things

I sometimes wonder how and why we put up with this stuff

Review site idea:

Instead of numbered scores, at the end of the review show where in the overall rankings the game would go, and then literally show the 5 games above it and 5 games below it.

Then wait for hell to break loose.

13 Sentinels is a wilde ride

I’m not going to spoil the plot, but the plot goes places. Unlocking new chapters is awesome and dear lord the game is beautiful. All characters designs are awesome (there is also a girl who isn’t the slim body type, but more full figured which is pretty cool) and fantastic to look at.

It is anime as fuck at times, but that’s a good thing

I just want my mechas. It’s incredible how the genre basically died in the past decade. The only relevant anime was the last Eva movie and it was a mix of a Ghibli movie and nonstop fights that were so over the top they barely even registered as “mech fights”.

The closest thing we got to a classic mech anime was Darling in the Fraxx and it derailed so hard from the mid point.

I will say that you shouldn't go into 13 Sentinels expecting it to be mech heavy. The mechs do have a role in the story but they are not the main point. The battles are represented with icons so you won't see some good mech vs mech action and I would say the mech portions of the weakest parts of the game. You should go in with expecting a sci-fi mystery narrative with lots of dialogue and character interactions.

I made the mistake of booting up Doom 2016's arcade mode again and now I don't want to play anything else. Send help

That's amazing!!! Huge congrats to you, I'd love to get a sneak peek of the feature or short film if you'd feel comfortable haha. The studio I work at specializes in high-school comedies, so if your script happens to belong to that subgenre, we should take a look lol. Also, we're in active development and packaging actors and a director to a script I wrote which is super exciting, with the aim being to go into production in H1 2023 (our summer and fall 2022 slate is spoken for already). We've already attached a Disney Channel star to the lead role, as well as her production company coming onboard to produce. So excited to see where we both are in a few months' time!
Likewise! Exciting to hear about your projects getting picked up! I sent you a DM so we could continue this conversation if you want (y)
