If Souls games, whose USP is that they're difficult, can exist, Kirby, associated with being easy, can exist.

I for one am not a glutton for punishment so a breezy experience is just fine with me.

Yeah this is about where I'm at. I appreciate the break for something pleasant since few games go for a vibe like Kirby's.

Very happy Kirby is a high quality title.

Really looking foward for it when I finished my all previous games i bought during 2020/21 lol (probably by end of this year :( )

I know it's Kirby time right now, but never forget

Mario Kart 8 DX is a game I've completely taken for granted over the last few years. Actually getting triple stars in Mirror Mode (and later, 200cc) is really making me appreciate the game again.

Does make me wonder what the future holds for Kart though, post Booster Pass.
I too was playing the mirror cups to unlock the gold cart. Reminded me how great the tracks and soundtrack were. I’m now realizing the bonus courses are unlikely to have zero gravity, which is a big bummer.

Reading Kirby reviews and my goodness am I in the need of a good palette cleanser game like it. Going to try and run out Friday after work to snag a copy.

I started going back and mopping up the cups I didn’t have golds in and noticed that not all of the OG DLC have zero-grav like Animal Crossing. I think it’s ok to be honest in the overall picture, but it’s going to feel odd to have a streak of courses without it. We also aren’t going to have a lot of underwater sections either I expect.

That’s a good observation. I don’t think it’s inherently bad, but some of the course designs benefit from the crazy verticality. But ninja hideaway showed that can be done without. The best part about underwater sections is the muffled sound design. Such a nice touch.

Kirby is really one of those games that make me wish nintendo would offer something like a gamepass. The reviews sound exactly like the Demo. Lighthearted fun, no challenge but many cool ideas. But honestly for me personally thats not worth 60€. For this kind of game i would just be willing to play 20-30€ . In many ways its like a very creative and beautiful looking indie game for me personally.

Nice to see Kirby reviewing well. I won't be able to pick it up any time soon, but I want to get it eventually.

Also I already posted this vid in a few threads, but I think it's worth sharing here too.

I don't see any 3D platformer with the Kirby's level of polish in the indie scene. Pulling off a 3D platformer isn't easy at all and needs an appropriate budget. HAL has been developping this one for 4 years.

I maybe didnt worded this the best way. But this kind of creative lighthearted fun i personally can have with many great indie games. Those would be mostly 2d or pixel looks thats true. But for my personal enjoyment this doesnt change a thing.

I dont want to say this game isnt worth 60€. It surely is for many people and its made with love and care. But how much a game is worth for someone is a very personal thing and for me it sadly wouldnt be worth the price. Thats why i said i would wish for something like a gamepass :D

The talk about Kirby's accessibility and difficulty gets brought up around every new Kirby game so here's my thoughts on it.

I'm fine with easy games so long as they're engaging. I think the nuance between the two can get muddied where a challenging game is the same as something being engaging, but I think its also how well the game is paced, the quality of its level design, how it utilizes different game mechanics and switches things up, and so on.

So for example I find Kirby Superstar engaging and Star Allies not. Both are Kirby games and they're very easy.

Holy shit Kirby’s scoring great so far! So good to see. Seems like the biggest complaint is that the game “isn’t challenging for advanced gamers such as myself” and that it might be on the short side if all you’re doing is blasting through the story. As someone who is planning to find all the secrets, sounds like music to my ears.

You're making a great point. I think that's why I really didn't like Crafted World, while I enjoyed a lot Wooly World. The latter was much clever in its level design and provided a variety of stuff to do, even though it was pretty easy

Yeah Crafted World had like incredibly bad pacing with the number of collectibles, since going for 100% means doing the same level like 3 times just to throw eggs at background objects. It grinded the game to a halt at times.

I can't begin to tell ya'll how much I hate this click baiter. Youtube finally let me have it so I don't see his videos suggested.
Yeah, at this point though, clickbait is just a regularly Tuesday to me.

I mean, it also literally was a Tuesday as well.

Ba-dum tss!

Yup. That’s why my partner at the time and I bounced off it. It was just incredibly boring to us and we both loved Wooly and Epic Yarn so that was very disappointing.

It's so strange how much worse, in my opinion, Crafted World was in comparison to Woolly World, despite it being same series, same developer and same approach, so to speak.

I have 65 hours in Elden Ring with no intention of stopping anytime soon, so Kirby will be the ultimate cooldown. Swapping between these two should be a blast
What kinda build you running? Im a lvl 100 samurai with like 50 INT and dual wield moonveil & uchi. Im not really noticing the INT scaling with moonveil if im being honest.

Yeah, like I think it's a good thing Nintendo makes games that are simple and inviting to pick up and play so they can cover for a range of experience levels in players.

But if you make a game easier and simple for the purpose of accessibility, the challenge for the designers becomes that the game could be boring as a byproduct if it feels like there's no depth. So they need to really make engaging gameplays loops and add variety to not fall into that situation. Kirby's way around that is things like the copy abilities and all the various side modes for example.

I’m not familiar with those weapons, but if you can respec that’d be a great way to test the scaling. If you mean points added to INT don’t seem to be doing you much good anymore you might’ve hit a soft cap.

Not knowing the development history I suspect Crafted was rushed out to ensure that there weren’t major gaps in the release pipeline for the Switch’s early days like there was with the Wii U and 3DS.

Also, anyone know what Good-Feel is up to these days?

Supposedly working on a self published Samurai game, presuming it wasn't cancelled. They've been dipping their toe in self-publishing/independence from Nintendo for a bit

Why is that gamers always conclude that a product must have been rushed if they don't like a game or there's an aspect of the game that they don't like? It seems people pull this one out of their butts because they can't accept that sometimes devs just make bad or mediocre games, even if they have a good track record in general.

Noone sets out to make a bad game.
The fact that they made better games before just makes people think that more time to ponder some design decisions could have benefitted the game.
Obviously most people don't know how gamedev works exactly, but I think it's a better mindset to think this way as opposed to just thinking a game developer is trash and can't produce anything of value.

Crafted World was delayed from 2018 to 2019. Probably not a rushed product; just seems the execution was a bit off versus what fans wanted.

I agree. For me, the novelty just wasn't there like it was in Woolly World, and the "Crafted" aspects of the game didn't do enough to separate itself. Also, among other things, the music in Crafted World was just a lot more boring to me. It felt like a lot of levels were just variations on the same theme. Woolly World, as I remember, did a lot better in that regard.

I finished Crafted World and thought it was... fine. Not awful, but not great either. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone since there are so many other great games on the switch.

but I said human teeth

I appreciate that someone made this car so goofy though, thank you for showing me
I mean, if you squint the whole car kinda looks like a human molar. LOL

But I don't wanna ride it all night long, I wanna sleep dammit

Xenoblade 'Cross'? I always called it 'X' (iks/eks)... D:
Really? Nah, just curious, actually.
Wait till you hear what the PlayStation controller buttons are actually called 👀

Also, anyone know what Good-Feel is up to these days?
Feelin Good

Sorry if this discussion has been done to death, but how does everyone feel about physical vs. digital? I feel like I’m constantly flip flopping on it, which has made my library a bit awkwardly scattered. It came up in my thoughts again today with Kirby.

Lately I’ve been buying single player games (like Kirby and Zelda) physical, and then MP games and games I will continually return to (Splatoon and Animal Crossing) digitally... 🤷

I’m 99% digital at this point. If it’s a really special game with a good collector’s edition then I’ll go physical, though. E.g. BotW Master Edition.

Put in a pre-order for Kirby last night. I think my plan is to do the story in co-op, and do side stuff on my own.

I buy physical because its cheaper for me , where I live physical games are 47-50 euros and digital 60 euros. In terms of games I want to play at any moment I have them next to my Switch at all times so changing the cartidge is less than 30 seconds which for me not a big deal

That's pretty much how I do it and of course a load of eshop only games. That way I can fit all my digital games on one sd card but still enjoy the convenience for multiplayer titles or daily check in games like ACNH.
