I just don’t want to return to Fodlan, either as a sequel or prequel. Not because I disliked 3H, but just cause it’s the only Fire Emblem I’ve played. Hoping for something that feels entirely new

There’s so much confidence for this week. Wild.

Also anybody thinking we’ll finally get the inevitable ramp up of BotW sequel coverage? Every trailer before this has been pity table scraps - the title reveal and story trailer have got to be coming soon…

I have nothing really to contribute to this thread at this point, other than I'm getting excited for the prospect of a new Direct. Feels good. Pretty much everything I would like to see has already been brought up so I think at this point I'm just excited for something unexpected as is usually the case with Directs.

it'd be crazy

but maybe fire emblem is the june game
So many strategy and tactics games this year. Genre fans are going to be eating good for a while.

I doubt we'll see it until E3. There's no need to see it now. Do a gigantic blowout at E3 like they did in 2016.

Yeah June feels like too soon to me, Three houses release time would make more sense(Late July)

Fire and Ice?

A song of ice and fire?

Story written by George R.R. Martin confirmed
If it was called Belden Ring no one would care

non-shitposty: A GRRM-written Fire Emblem is like...a match made in heaven, just less dragons. I'd buy that in a heartbeat

I know it isn't an apples to apples comparison, but Super Mario Maker 2 was announced Feb 2019, and launched June 2019.

Fire Emblem in May has my Nostradamus senses tingling, personally
Nintendo 2022:
January: Pokémon Legends: Arceus
February: Hollow Knight: Silksong
March: Kirby and the Forgotten Land / Triangle Strategy
April: Advance Wars 1+2 / Resident Evil NSW
May: Fire Emblem / Untitled Horse Game
June: Splatoon 3
July: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
August: Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope / Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
September: Metroid Prime HD: Samus Reloaded - The Re-Up
October: Bayonetta 3 / Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
November: Twilight Princess + Windwaker HD Collection
December: Xenoblade Chronicles 3
But I'm also Team BOTW2 2022 since that post so hmm.

My guess since TGA was that Zelda shows up if Nintendo are super confident in it making 2022. If they're uncertain, I could see them waiting until summer. That being said, I wouldn't take Zelda's absence as a sign of trouble, either.

Unless for some reason we are getting Zelda this summer, I don't think it will show up in a direct before E3. Thier next showing of the game will probably be ~6 months before release.

Even that feels too soon. 4 months after Triangle Strategy, 3 months after Advance Wars. Summer should belong to Splatoon 3 and Metroid Prime R.
I feel like 4 months after a 3rd party game of a similar genre is not too much of a consideration for Nintendo, and Advanced wars has a wholly different appeal imo and as a remake I don't think consideration or expectation will be quite as high

Why not have Fire Emblem as an end of year release, if it’s really ambitious they might be pushing it as a tent pole release around Q4
FE doesn't read as that kind of release to me, by nature of the kind of game it is it has a ceiling that wouldn't suffice for a holiday tentpole title imo. Summer feels like the right time

At this point I think Nintendo is blue-balling us with Zelda because they know they can.

They can wait till summer and it won't really mean anything, even if it's coming out this year, they could easily just do a big E3 blowout (not the entire show, of course, but still).

It's times like these, that I hate Nintendo 😁.

It would depend on what else Nintendo has planned for Q4. If you already have a combination of Zelda, Mario, and/or DK planned for the holiday season, sticking Fire Emblem in that same window wouldn't be smart.

Nintendo's release strategy just had 2 Pokemon titles either side of Christmas, and successive party games in September and October. Their 2019 line up had a 2D Mario in January, a 2D Yoshi in March, and a 2D Mario in June.

Sometimes production cycles mean that similar games pile up. And even then, I think the similarity in some cases is being overplayed.

It'd depend on what else they have. Maybe it gets an early October spot like Dread, before commercially bigger titles launch. But the usual window for Fire Emblem the last decade has been April through July.

I'm not convinced by that. Zelda cuts through like little else. Last year they were willing to use Skyward Sword HD as part of the final segment of two Directs; if they're confident on it being 2022, I think they're going to start using it for maximum visibility.

I'm pretty sure we'll get a Splatoon 3 test fire at some point. Maybe next month? And then a follow up in May.

I'm also trying to figure out the calendar release schedule and assuming everything announced for this year doesn't get delayed (with the exception of Mario + Rabbids), I think we might end up with something like this based on confirmed/rumored games. Rumored direct announcements in bold.

March: Triangle Strategy + Kirby
April: Advance Wars
May: Everybody Switch
June: Splatoon 3
July - September: Fire Emblem + Metroid Prime Remake/Windwaker/Twilight Princess
October: Bayonetta 3
November: Zelda BotW2
December: Xenoblade

Looking at this lineup so far I just don't see Xenoblade coming out this year. I bet they'll give it a "releasing winter" release window. That would give them a Dec-Feb 2023 window.

I feel like FE + the remakes/ports would come out during that 3 month July-Sept window and they'll get around 6 - 8 months of announcement to release lead up time.

Laying all this out makes me realize a few things. Firstly, I don't know if Nintendo would release Windwaker/Twilight Princess HD in this environment. Maybe too much Zelda for one year? If they do come out this year maybe July is when they drop. Secondly, Metroid Prime Remake is allegedly close to done. Would Nintendo release it now to build on the good will from Dread or are they going to hold it to coincide closer with Prime 4.

Finally, I do think they'll announce something big for 2023. Last year it was Splatoon 3. This year I think it's going to be Mario Kart. A huge multiplayer game for 2023 that hopefully takes advantage of their new online infrastructure. I don't think we'll get more announcements than that tbh.

Also this makes it so E3 is the big Zelda botw blowout. Which means I don't think they'll announce too many brand new games at e3. Just look at this calendar. The year seems pretty well accounted for. Where would you slot in something like the Donkey Kong game for example? Possibly September or perhaps even October? Would that encroach too much on Bayonetta 3? Hopefully we get some answers this week.

Overall I think a direct with Xenoblade + Fire Emblem would be pretty good. One more announcement of Windwaker/TP or Metroid Remake would make it a little better. And of course Mario Kart would be a megaton announcement. This is where my expectations are right now.

The only announced Mario game for the year is Mario X Rabbids 2. This is almost umprecendeted, I went back to 2011 and I think the minimum we got was 3.

Personally expecting a Color Splash Remaster and potentially 3D Mario if Zelda gets delayed.

My wet dream is a Mario Strikers, but 3 years is too little time when 2 of those are Pandemic Years.

I think I could see it either way, to be honest. I'm not necessarily convinced it won't be at the February direct, but I could see it being a no show and showing up at the summer and september directs.

The whole Triangle Strategy to Advance Wars to Fire Emblem is so overblown. Triangle Strategy and Advance Wars looking like they’ll only be one month apart. Nintendo doesn’t care. Fire Emblem in July can easily happen if Nintendo wanted and had it ready for then.

Why do we think Metroid Prime is coming this summer? I'm not sure where this came from, but I kind of always assumed it was Holiday 2022.
Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Other M and Metroid Samus Returns they all released in late August to mid September. They could go for a similar date as Bayo 3 and BotW2 most likely will be winter releases. Though I think October is also good for Metroid.

If there are indeed returning characters in the next FE and Ike isn't one of them I'll be inconsolable. His absence in Warriors was the main reason I didn't buy the game.

How do you do a Fire Emblem cross-over game without include Ike???

It's not that difficult
The gameplay doesn't at all interest me. I like tactical RPGs but Fire Emblem is too abstracted, if that makes any sense. It's too far removed from like, normal, logical combat IMO for it to be engaging.

Plus I'm not really into story/characters as the primary driver for a game, with only like a couple exceptions. Unless the story and characters absolutely ooze charm (like in DQ).

They won't release it anywhere near Zelda's release window IMO.

I have it pegged from July-Sept. Maybe even that first week of October which Dread got last year. It might get the Skyward Sword HD treatment and positioned as a big summer game, or it comes out a decent amount of time before Zelda. I don't see them releasing Zelda and a Metroid game during the holiday window. Zelda is going to just suffocate any releases during that time. Dread was basically their fall game last year and it hasn't cracked 3 million. And they still released it before Mario Party and Pokemon. Timing is crucial when it comes to Metroid games.
