I'm not letting go of the hope for seeing BotW2, but I'm slowly developing a sense of boring realism that whispers in my hyped ear that it is Splatoon and Xenoblade's Direct.

Question is, what will open?
I'm thinking Fire Emblem opener, Splatoon 3 middle/spotlight (maybe with Triangle Strategy), Xenoblade 3 closer.

Splatoon won’t open or close, it didn’t even do so in the sept direct. It’ll be a middle of the direct spotlight or the last thing before the “one more thing”

I think BotW 2 will be at E3. Nintendo will do their “Tune in to our Nintendo Direct on June 7th for upcoming 2022 games including The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda BotW”

Additionally, will treehouse live carry on as usual in June even if theres no E3 in person or digital?

That’s where my BotW2 prediction lies. If they aren’t getting the E3 floor or platform for treehouse live, what’s to stop them from doing one for BotW2 in February instead of June?

I don't care when the next Direct is, I just need some Dragon Quest and Xenoblade news. I'm already confident that a new FE will be released this year (hopefully). But I need my dosis of Dragon Quest hype. Some DQIII announcement, Treasure, or even Builders 3. I'm craving for more.

As of now E3 exists and we’re in February. What’s in the February direct should be set. If E3 was cancelled I’d be on board with things playing out different.

If BoTW 2 is this year, maybe a title drop is necessary in the upcoming direct

Then a deep dive trailer in the E3 direct
I don’t see why do a title drop. If the title is a big deal towards a mechanic or whatever like Bill said then they’d be best to save it for E3. Give the title and the blowout just like they did for BotW at E3 2016.

Necessary, I don't think so, they could reveal it at the last moment if they want to, but it would be nice in the upcoming direct of course ! I hope they will do a trailer à la 2017 trailer !

I'd guess they want to redo the marketing cycle of BotW2 with a title reveal trailer and a final launch trailer respectively.

This direct would be a good timeframe for the title reveal trailer if the game releases this holiday.

I know it’s been said but Nintendo seriously has a lot to focus on this year. Just with already announced and heavily rumored titles.

I don’t want to sound stupidly optimistic, but I can’t see how this years directs won’t be absolutely PACKED.

I feel the same way. We have like a list of 20 games rumored or announced. Nintendo only does 3 directs a year so…are these directs gonna be packed to the brim?

And add to that that most of these things will be announced or out by the time of the september direct which should start announcing stuff for NEXT year, lots of it will be concentrated on the first half direct and E3 direct.

They need to blow the lid off Bayo 3, announce and blow the lid off Fire Emblem, same with Prime remakester, further deep dives on Splatoon 3, full title reveal and blowout for BotW2, SOME Mario game will come, presumably Xenoblade 3 too.

I made my direct predictions, but I forgot to add something. I think they may announce Breath of the Wild Definitive Edition to celebrate it's 5th anniversary and it will include all the DLC on the cartridge.

I don't think they'll release something like that until the 4k console is out. Then they can advertise it as a visual upgrade too.

September 2018 to E3 2019 was something else. The three most recent ones have also been great.
Easily my favorite stretch of Directs in the Switch era. Just wonderful, tear-inducing stuff lol
I’d love another repeat of February 2019 direct with 3 big game announcements. Mario Maker 2 started it. We ended with Astral Chain and Links Awakening.
This is the way. Fire Emblem, Xenoblade 3, and Metroid Prime HD would have me pumped as hell. Or DK/MK9/etc.
Bayo 3 in Feb Direct yes/no?
Nah

Have people ever brought up the idea of a Mario direct in the first half of this year?

I've been thinking about how we haven't heard much of anything from EPD Tokyo in now over 4 years and the Mario movie releasing this year. EPD Tokyo's game surely being in the final stages of development and the Mario movie releasing this year does seem too much of a conincidence to me.

A Mario direct with the first Mario movie trailer, a 3D Mario announcement (or/and maybe even a 2D Mario game) to go along with it and some other small announcements doesn't sound unlikely.

Didn't Nintendo wait for E3 to reveal the title for BotW?

Sure, but BotW released in March of the next year. If they want to release BotW2 at the end of the year, the timing of announcements can't correspond with the ones from the BotW marketing cycle.

A way shorter marketing cycle between the first trailer/title reveal and game release could also happen, though.

I see what you mean, but in 2016 nobody knew what to expect from "new Zelda." Now we know. I think Nintendo could get away with a shorter marketing cycle because this game and the preceding game are already embedded in people's minds. Plus an "E3 Direct" (whether there's an E3 this year or not) will probably have a lot more eyes on it than one in February. Just my thoughts. If course, the fact that it makes sense to me means it's probably not what Nintendo will do. 😅

We've already seen Zelda footage. It was in the 2022 advert for the Game Awards. As far as I'm concerned its "marketing cycle" has already begun.

Oh yeah we're moving into the Fire Emblem / Xenoblade part of the Nintendo cycle. The only two Nintendo franchises I genuinely dislike. Sigh.

At least Advance Wars is finally not dead, makes me feel a bit better.

I think we’ll get 4 new announcements as far as Nintendo is concerned.

The big ones being Xenoblade 3 and Fire Emblem. Mediums will be Everybody Switch and a Mario spin-off.

I’d love to see DK/Mario Kart 8/Metroid Prime remaster in it. It’s just Nintendo doesn’t like doing too many Big game announcements. That’s why I have Xenoblade and FE as the two big announcements. The Feb 2019 had 3 so if we were to get 3 I’d add DK or Metroid Prime remaster.

I mean even when that is the case they focus one game at a time heavily. While another game gets some marketing slowly over time. For exampel Triangle and Kirby got a bit of news and some blowouts here and there but their focus was on Arceus.

But this year will be bonkers yes

chin up friend, at least you like advance wars

post kirby I have nothing to look forward to this year
New Kirby looks fire too, and as stated before I'm really excited for Splatoon 3. Other than those (and BotW2 obviously) not much of the rumors excite me too much. Like a Metroid Prime remake and a new internal Donkey Kong or MK9 if they're real would all be right up my alley, but most of the rest that's getting suggested is kind of meh.

I have no reason to back up this thinking, but I would guess they open with the one that's coming soonest, which in all likelihood is Fire Emblem.

For me, this is the good part of the cycle! I have a feeling it's a Splatoon Summer next though, which is the boring Nintendo time for me.

last February was a weeb Direct too

maybe that's its role now
Ideally, for the fans I’d think you want a better spread and not too focused on one genre. I mean I love it, but I’m not selfish like that. I’d prefer they start announcing the DK or big Mario game here.

Are Xenoblade and Fire Emblem really the same genre though? A big open world exploration game and a strategic menu game have pretty different feels. More different than, say, DK and Mario both getting announced.

this sounds right on the money to me

only question is which of the big two opens
I feel like they'll open with FE, it just seems right to me for some reason. Middle reveal will be something more minor and less "hype" and "core", something like the aforementioned yearly Mario spinoff or 6-9-Switch or whatever. I'm thinking we'll get the "double feature" ending reveals ala Astral Chain + Link's Awakening and Banjo in Smash + BotW2. The first of these will be XB3, and the "one last thing" will be... I dunno, DK or something. Maybe another BotW2 teaser? I dunno. I think they'll save the Prime remake for E3 as a double reveal with Prime 4.

The Feb 2021 Direct had some weeb content (edit: like Triangle Strategy) but its genre spread was pretty great with Splatoon 3 as the big announcement. And I guess Mario Golf.

Yeah it’s called weeb. I didn’t think I’d need to explain what I meant by FE and Xenoblade being the same. We need the details of these games. Of course they’re not the same.

I’ve already seen people lamenting a direct where the big announcements are Xenoblade and Fire Emblem. People throw them in the same pool. They don’t care for these kinds of games. I understand.

Had that dream again: I'm laying comfortably on my bed, all snuggle and warm, when suddenly I hear a loud rhythmic thumping sound at the end of my bed. Baaa Ba Bah Ba BaAaAaAaAaBa!

With the darkness and the sleep in my eyes, I couldn't tell what the shadowy figure was hunching near my bed. With my frightened eyes closed, I could feel it creeping up to my feet.

And then my legs.

And then my stomach.

However, the closer this creature came up to me, the more familiar it felt. I slowly open my eyes.

It was Donkey Kong!

His expand dong face was now on my chest. Star struck, who was I to deny the burly graciousness of the King of the Jungle who took it upon himself to greet me in... such a manner.

I knew he wanted to tell me something, but he seemed too bashful to say what it was. "It's okay, DK baby. I'm all ears," I whispered as to not wake my roommates in the other room. Now given the greenlight, DK slowly puts his lips just an inch away from my left ear.

"If you listen, you can hear it coming," DK whispers as a large light glistens from his shoulders like the opening of The Lion King. A nondisclosed choir forms a heavenly song as DK magically floats away from off my bed.

I wake up.

What does it mean, Fam? Is it finally happening?

I think we'll get an official 4K remaster of Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa before the new Direct is announced.

Game : Can you find Mark Hamill on this picture ?

Yeah, I agree with this, never really understood why people group these two franchises together besides an incredibly surface level "Nintendo-published anime JRPG's" description of them. They're very, very different franchises. Not even just the gameplay, but the stories, tone, artstyles, characters, even the style of the voice acting, etc. Even the anime art looks different between the two, Especially when comparing XB to something like Shadows of Valentia. Granted, I do think FE will continue to lean into and greatly expand upon the free-roam aspects in FE 2022 and beyond, but probably not open world nor an ARPG lol.

I mean, even with Fire Emblem and Xenoblade probably about to be announced, the genre spread this year is still pretty good.

That being said, I'd love a curveball or something like DK this year. I'm not feeling too confident on EPD having more than Splatoon, Zelda, and Everybody Switch finished and out this year. There isn't necessarily the need to aggressively push out EPD projects as there was in 2017; and really, when it comes to having interesting and new things this year and next, it might better if EPD have two or three games in 2023, too.

Good-Feel having games ready would legit make this Direct and this year more interesting, especially if it's up there with their best stuff. I didn't have them on my list for this year, but maybe I'm wrong on that. But then that's just me dreaming of new Wario Land and hoping for the best from their next self-published game.

By 'these types of games'- since you agree they aren't the same- do you mean that people don't like them because of a perceived shared aesthetic factor? Seems odd to me. Nobody would be disappointed in a direct with both Splatoon 3 and Donkey Kong Returns Again for the reason that they're both in the cartoon animal genre.

Yeah this is a better articulated version of what I meant. The conflation of the two series seems unfair to both of them.
