They've literally just launched a Pokemon title, like I said. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a release timed with the Direct, but there's zero reason to expect a Direct this week ahead of the financial briefing.

A logical point of comparison is 2019, where the Direct still came after the quarterly fiscal briefing despite no February release being scheduled. Like this year, they confirmed a release for March using a tweet, and had launched a popular brand in January (Mario).

Edit - checking back through our posts and I think there are crossed wires here.

I'm not dismissing the idea they might launch something in February - I was talking about whether they needed to announce anything else ahead of this week's fiscal results, which they don't.
Ah, indeed there was some confusion. I agree with you, they don't have to announce anything that soon, only something, even if small, until the end of the month.

How does this work now over here, does DC still need to get banned?
Think of this like the bible, Resetera was the Old Testament full of iron-clad rules and sacrifices; meanwhile Famiboards is the New Testament with its peace, love, and the inevitable apocalypse of gaming that will leave us entirely unscathed as long as the faith holds.

Did you just call Famiboards users hippies?
I mean, I know I haven't cut my hair since before the pandemic but still

Regarding Next Level games, someone said they have 2 studios? What if they have a smaller team working on Punch Out Wii HD!
I don’t recall anyone saying NLG has 2 studios or teams. I don’t think Punch Out Wii will come back in today’s climate. I think they’d be better off making a new Punch Out. If they had 2 teams they could have smaller group making a new punch out.

#TeamJanuary,

It's been a pleasure and an honour serving alongside you.

We'll bring it home and party next year. Stay winning, Fami.

Team January your chariot awaits

Nintendo Direct on Feb. 9th, Mario Movie teaser at the Super Bowl on the 13th. Book it.

(Remember, NBC has the Super Bowl this year, so you'll see a LOT of NBCUniversal trailers. Minions, Jurassic Park, etc.)

I can't believe some of ya'll think #TeamJanuary has lost lol

If you are a #TeamJanuary member and you're feeling down, just remember the original Jan, and how she manifested George Glass from the ether.

We have that power too. Always.

On a possibly meaningless note, the 3rd Character Trailer for Traingle Strategy was released in English today about a week after it's Japanese release, which was a lot quicker than how long it took for the previous 2 character trailers. Could mean they're trying to wrap up those trailers quickly before an upcoming Direct trailer. Or it could more likely be nothing.

TeamJanuary looks like it's losing once again but the secret is they will remain the eternal winners until the Jan 2013 Direct is topped. Which it hasn't been.

Haha. I actually do think partner showcases are done. From their 2020 experience viewership got worse and worse and I think it was their way to help their partners with directs while Nintendo themselves felt they didn't want to do one.

Failed experiment imho
Wasn’t the Riot “Not a Direct we swear” thing last year pretty well received?

I feel like speculating may be getting conflated with cheerleading. Yeah there are those fanboys who want x to own y, but these days it more seems a reaction to the current and ensuing consolidation wars than "what if Nintendo re-bought Rare dur hur?" kinda stuff of yesteryear.

Or at least people who wish for a company to be subsumed simply so they won't lose their content on their platform of choice.

Question, when it comes to some the of the past rumours, did the whole ‘Mario on PlayStation’ thing even pan out to be something? Was it related to the ‘Halo on Switch’ which, I assume is no longer happening.

Nate said it indeed was Halo on Switch. But if it's true and really in the works, don't expect it to come out anytime soon. PC version took 3 years to port, Switch would take even more.

The Olympic ads with dinosaurs promoting Jurassic World have gone too far

Must have missed that, which one was this?

It feels more like an indie Direct from a single publisher than a Partners Showcase, since Riot Forge is Riot's indie publishing branch, but it definitely felt Direct-adjacent

That would be neat to have, would personally prefer some other MS games like Rare Replay to get a port over Halo but it would be great to see more MS support.

Rare N64 games are coming to NSO, we're definitely not getting Rare Replay as it is. But maybe MS could port the remaining Xbox 360 games to Switch after that? We did get a Viva Piñata game on DS, published by THQ.

Does this mean we don't need to make any sacrifices to get a Direct? We just have to hold the faith and it'll show up at the right time?

Are you saying I'm now allowed to mix linen and wool???

Jackpot!

It's an experiment insofar as they went ahead and did it and made four of them from July to October

Yes the pandemic made regular directs not happen. But the way they executed those partner directs, suggests it was a concious effort to try something different or they could have just done a single info dump direct

I forget if it was pure speculation or if there was some meat to it, but it's been said the Partner Showcases were due to Nintendo having pre-covid contractual obligations to 3rd parties to showcase their games in Directs. So when general Directs stalled because of Nintendo's own troubles but they still had to show the 3rd party stuff in a "Direct" in order to fulfill those obligations, "Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase" was born.

So I don't think it was an experiment where Nintendo was trying something different, I think they "had" to put those out because of some legal stuff with 3rd parties.

That was my impression when i read it last year. I mean what else could durabilty and specifically talking about improving durability and testing of said joycons be about. They specifically mention rotating the analog stick.

There's also a small mea culpa inserted in there discussing the original testing that was done on the joycon sticks and how they've even improved the test.
Meaning they didn't discover the drift or didn't think it was a huge issue due to the testing they used.

Here's the full quote for context
I think that is reaching. I doubt they didn’t discover it. Their very next question is about user feedback that in conjunction with their quote just sounds like a flawed testing method that needs either iteration or another method. Which necessarily does not mean they think there is a problem with the device just one of hypothesis.

Edit: though I will say I do see what your talking about. I just don’t think they are admitting it at least yet. Maybe after their lawsuits but I doubt it or years after the fact maybe.
