On the Bethesda topic, I've only tried Skyrim but wasn't hugely impressed. The world seemed pretty fun and interesting but the gameplay loop was dull af. Skyrim but with good combat would probably be one of my favorite games of all time.

...I should probably try modded Skyrim at some point

Nintendo consolidating their handheld and home console plus the Switch being my favorite gaming platform ever makes it a non issue to buy and rebuy stuff on the platform. Wii U ports? Check. Old ass PC RPGs for cheap? Check. Indie darlings both current and former? Check. Random PS360 ports? Check. Everything Nintendo released, more or less since the launch of the system? Check.

I also really liked the 3DS and hit the game library limit at one point. Right now my only limit is finding Micro SD cards bigger than 1TB...

Did people discuss the new Botw2 4chan "leak" ? Claims to have played the game.

Even if it is probably wrong, some pretty interesting stuff in there.
The "playable Zelda," stuff is just disappointing enough to be a plausible implementation of such an idea. Any more exciting and it'd be clearly false.

It's still probably bullshit, though. Zelda ain't ever being properly playable in a Zelda game.

Brady retiring. No matter your opinion there will never be another career like it.
Not even close. Truly the end of an era.

Someone posted on ERA that Tom Brady has appeared in football games on all five PlayStation consoles. Just another crazy state in the life of Tom Brady.
Apparently we jumped the gun lol

Clearly this must mean Nintendo is going to make their music readily-available any time soon.

Any time soon...

Man. I still remember when this channel went up after SilvaGunner went down (no, not the modern SiIvaGunner channel you know today; GilvaSunner is itself a reference to an older account that uploaded straight rips and eventually was taken down on copyright strikes from third parties). Nintendo's insistence on doing this without providing alternatives is frustrating. I get it with video games - emulation is a lot trickier than folks give it credit for - but just shutting down access to most of their music, which is easily mass converted to consumer formats playable on any modern device, sucks. I kind of understand the weirdness of Nintendo the corporation putting up music for streaming that was composed in the 90s by composers who couldn't have even considered asking for profit sharing over something like that, but Square seems to be having no problems and the company owning the music is pretty standard anyway.

Maybe I'll start ripping tracks myself for my own personal use? I already did with that with Xenoblade DE to get the remastered versions of the tracks, and it's not too bad...

I also have absolutely no idea what the legality of that is.

Technically, they have. If they are mass claiming these, they have them uploaded to the YouTube servers themselves.
Just need to flick a switch!
Is that true for music? In theory they wouldn't need to have it up in a video form.

Doesn't Link have the Master Sword in the announcement trailer? So for this to be true, Link would have to travel with it the underground area where Ganon reawakens. After getting attacked by malic and Ganon presumably escaping, Link then travels back to Kokiri Forest to put the Master Sword, the only sword that can defeat Ganon, back for...reasons?

this is very weird but that makes it fun

absolutely zero chance of being real though, knowing this much but not the title is bizarre

This... honestly sounds like a Zelda game.

It sounds like something that Nintendo would do.

Like, am I taking crazy pills or what?

The rare leak where nothing in it is so outrageous to immediately identify it as fake (Bolson is the weirdest part lol) but still manages to be something I'd be pretty happy with. Of course, there's no reason to believe it at the moment.

The "playable Zelda," stuff is just disappointing enough to be a plausible implementation of such an idea. Any more exciting and it'd be clearly false.

I go back and forth on this.

If Zelda is just Link but you're playing as Zelda, I personally don't think it accomplishes very much. However, representation is good, and that would make a lot of people happy, which is also good.

Personally, I like distinct ability sets. From a game design perspective, I understand simplifying one of the characters down so the player don't have to worry about two almost entirely separate builds (at least in theory; in practice managing that might be kinda neat?). But simplifying Zelda's gameplay and sticking her with the old stuff while Link gets the cool new toys for the big boi missions doesn't send the right message.

Miyamoto had the right idea but it's not too late to right this wrong and make a different first-person action adventure series.
Nintendo should just do their own Elder Scrolls games.

They'd do it better than Bethesda.

...I mean it.

Claims to play BOTW and couldn’t even give us a title?

Nah. Breath of the Wild plaster that title in every load screen.

It is very reasonable to assume they're at a point where they need mass QA but would exclude the title from test builds

I buy all my first party games physical and all my inferior trash digital
I buy nothing physical, tbh.

I really should start collecting. Just... haven't done it.

Don't know why. Digital purchases are just more convenient, ig.

Hmmm I don't know.

It's weird, like, I totally expect at least a few of these concepts to be in BOTW2, but the fact that this whole post is basically every idea that has been heavily considered by fans for BOTW2 put together makes the rumor ... kind of boring?

Like on the one hand, sure, it's cool that there's sky stuff, and underground stuff, and an alternate dimension, and character swapping, and traditional dungeons.

But on the other hand, pretty much all of that was heavily speculated? I guess the alternate dimension thing is the most questionable based on how it's done, if it's basically just like OoT's time travel or just a new smaller location to explore it is pretty predictable but if they somehow incorporate almost on-the-fly dimension swapping with an entirely different Hyrule that would be cool.

But I honestly expect BOTW2 not to be that predictable. I don't want the game to just be a mishmash of every BOTW2 fanfic there has been so far. We already know it's probably going to combine elements of prior games like Skyward Sword, maybe some traditional dungeon elements, some underground stuff, etc. For it to just be a bombastic version of every concept the series has explored ... eh, I'd expect a few new ideas that fans haven't talked about.

Actually, let me rephrase this.

It is very reasonable for a nerd like me who has never actually developed a game but has some light programming experience to believe a game slated for this year would be in QA testing, and that the same company that hid the reveal of this game from the press's pre-E3 Direct screening would hide the title of the game from QA.

However, I don't know much about game development and this could be a very bogus assumption. If this is a leak, it reads like it's from QA to me, though translation is also theoretically possible (but puts it more directly on an regional Nintendo leak which feels unlikely). There isn't any strong reason to believe it's true, but that's probably how it happened if it is.

Tbh I doubt anything from the announcement trailer is in the actual game, other than Ganondorf and Zelda falling. Just can't see a really heavy narrative like that at the start.

You think the whole setup for the sequel is not in the actual game? That's a weird take. The exact details may change and the cutscenes most certainly have gone through revisions, but that story beat is definitely in the game.

And Zelda games have started off with lore dumps (Skyward Sword) and more linear playable intros (Majora's Mask) before.

Yes. Good catch! We even see it on his back the very moment Zelda falls (assuming the rock she's standing on crumbling beneath her that we see for a quarter second is indeed the fall). This is somehow my biggest issue with the leak, as it's hard to explain with anything other than the fact that the 2019 trailer was years ago and things could've changed. It's actually pretty weird to have gotten a trailer showing story interactions from Nintendo so early.

I would be surprised if it wasn't at least planned to be entirely in the game at the time the trailer was released. It doesn't have to be the start, though; it could be the return of Aonuma's new favorite literary device: the flashback.

Cutscenes would have to be in test builds

also they just didn't comment on the title, they didn't deny knowing it
That’s precisely it. Hiding the title but letting QA see heavy story stuff? A little off to me. And one of the things I feel someone would do is describe animations, menu options, What type of gears, controls. Tho that’s mostly a me thing probably when it comes to Leaks. And the talks about dungeon seems very basic with no details in regards to design or aesthetic. No describing “shrines”. Just weird. Real leaks are very detailed in all aspect. Fake tends to pick big talking points to be very details and jump around everywhere. Tho I admit, fun read

Granted. Nothing from BOTW was really known prior to release in terms of gameplay and story so is doubting much will happen again. Only thing I question is that Fire Emblem Three Houses had an extensive leak way before release that could end up being true like this.

I think the cutscenes itself aren't in the game. We got the first trailer near the start of development, so I think those were more of a proof of concept in a way. Just to tease the game. I think we'll see a lot of the same story beats, but it won't play out the same as it did in the first trailer.

If you click through to the source of the leak, it wasn't laid out in bullet points like this; they just answered questions.

To be clear, I'm not really arguing for this. It's probably fake, just because most "leaks" like this are. I just don't think the lack of a name indicates anything.

I deduced this from the fact that my brother hasn't really put it down for two days now, denying me the chance to borrow his copy lol
I reminder that I need my own Switch.

I keep borrowing from my cousin.

Yeah I try not to be negative, but I personally found Skyrim quite overrated.

Don't get me wrong; it is still a good game and I enjoyed my time with it. I appreciate the sheer breadth of its content and the amount of different ways it can be played.

But for me some significant issues held it back; melee combat was clunky, the dungeons were too often samey grey caves full of samey grey zombies, the weight carry limit is too restrictive and annoying, and there were too many bugs.

I don't want BOTW2 to me more like a Bethesda game, I just want it to be a natural evolution of BOTW1.

None of those things are what I mentioned as “things that could improve BotW2” though. They’re not even things inherent to Bethesda games either. Skyrim’s combat is crap but it’s not what people love about the games at all; the dungeons have crappy level design but that doesn’t change the unique and contextualised nature of them; and bugs are, well, bugs. All could be changed and improved dramatically without affecting the core appeal of those games.

It’s like seeing someone say “I want GTAVI to have a greater focus on exploration like in BotW,” and going “I don’t want GTAVI to be more like BotW because I didn’t like BotW’s durability system.” They’re entirely different things lol

Hot take:

This video reminds me of why I don't like Vaati and why I don't like Minish Cap.

Drops mic.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is the only game that Vaati appears in where he is not the final boss. Instead, he serves as the penultimate boss before Ganon emerges as the final boss.

The above kinda sums up why I don't like him, tbh, and his status in the fandom just seems undeserved. That, and his motives are kinda subpar, even compared to other Zelda villains. Granted, same could be said for the main man Ganondorf, but I feel Ganondorf is just more charismatic.

Anyways:

Villains that are more interesting/better/have more potential than Vaati.

Basically:

Kohga and the Yiga Clan

Skull Kid/Majora

Ghirahim

Bellum (he's an interesting concept, tbh)

Yuga

Link's Shadow in Zelda II

Zant

Astor

Hilda (I guess? She's really only one near the end and not in the traditional sense)

Anyone else I'm missing?

I wasn't directly addressing your arguments, hence why I didn't quote you, this was merely my own tangential opinion.

I agree.

Morrowind was great, Oblivion was good, and Skyrim was mediocre.

And that last one is 10 years old. It's outdated now.

Breath of the Wild 2 can get delayed to 2023 if in exchange I can get a new trailer with an update for N1RV Ann-A.

stop doing this please
Why? Nobody’s gonna concede here (and the “Yeah’s” have spoken so nothing I say will change a thing) so it’s best to just stop things there and move away. It was my mistake to even reply in the first place. Hell, that original Bethesda post is looking more like a mistake every minute lol
