Obviously, everyone has their own opinions, but I hope Xenoblade 3 is more of a Xenoblade 1 2, rather than once jokingly suggested Xenoblade 2 2.

Xenoblade 2 was not a game I enjoyed and felt it was way, way, WAY too anime. Not that Xenoblade 1 didn't have ridiculous outfits, but at least it didn't have any haha boobies humor. It's a real shame because I liked the gameplay and gacha Metroidvania-like elements of exploration.

As for BotW OST, it's definitely not the type of music I listen to on my own, as I prefer more bombastic and melodic tunes, but in context of the game it's downright one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.
Personally I would really dislike a XC 1 2 compared to a 2 2.

I don't like some of XC2's character designs and the aforementioned boobie humor, but for me it's like, far better than XC1 on every other level. Gameplay, story, characters, setting, themes, soundtrack, etc.

Just cut down on the problematic elements in the next game and you're golden.
I so strongly prefer 1's gameplay and battle style (but recognize and respect that most people prefer 2's) that I actually wish Nintendo would let them splinter the series into the numbered entries (the Klaus continuity) and the X series. For the X series they could keep the Arts Palette system and general "closer to 1" feel, and the numbered series could go in all the neat new directions they want to try. Appease the weeaboos and the mechaboos. Best of both worlds.

Don’t know how people feel about it here, but Mario Run was awesome and it’s a shame that was Nintendo’s only premium mobile game. The update where they added the endless runner mode and the ability to listen to your own music cemented its excellence.

Xenoblade > X > Torna > Future Connected > 2.

The leaked premise/tone give me a lot of hope they are moving away from 2 even if there are plenty of returning characters. Torna fixed 2’s combat so I’m less worried if they reuse that. Really hope they go back to X after 3, so much unfinished business and wild untapped potential there from gameplay, to story, to exploration.

I hated grinding for blades in Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 1 all the way.
Yeah whatever direction the series goes in, I hope they leave gacha behind. I thought it was a cool idea to have a bunch of different character designers do the unique ones, as it felt almost like a manga history lesson, but aaaalllll the generic ones were just too much.
In the words of Jet Li:

The biggest limitation is the number of staff available; I don't think it really matters how many senior producer groups there are, because those groups already oversee multiple projects, both within EPD and externally. EPD 5 didn't need to become two production groups to handle two franchises, for example. EPD 9 doesn't need to split into two separate groups to make a new IP and a new Mario Kart; they need access to more developers, artists, and programmers.

The key thing for EPD is to have more games in full production at the same time. That problem is solved with more staff and more development space and, thankfully, that seems to now be happening.
Agreed, ultimately it's a staff problem and I'm glad they're taking measures to fix it. The number of production groups is fine, I'm more advocating those groups keep those lower/mid level developers together instead them getting shuffled. Keep more discrete, dedicated teams together, like what HAL has with Kirby

Luckily, Xeno 3 sounds like another shakeup of the formula. I eventually grew tired of both "branches" of Xeno combat.

A personal desire of mine would be to see the NxC/EF/PXZ combat "live on" in Xeno, since I sincerely doubt we're going to get any more of the former with its main figureheads long since departed the company.

But at this point, almost anything new would be interesting to see play out.

I could see them adapt the timed button presses to some degree, just in a 3D game, the way Valkyrie Profile 2 did.

Are there 'leaks' on the game then? Like gameplay expectations?

Just that there's more characters on screen, both on the player side as well as the enemy side.

Ah missed that. Thanks for the clarification :)

I feel like ultimately Xenoblade 1's combat is just way too shallow, just not enough going on to the point where it gets really boring after a while
It feels shallower and also less intrinsically satisfying since you don't have the timing based elements of move cancelation

For all that people (validly) complain about XC2's combat starting slow, at least it always has that going for it.

I know ALOT of people believe a Mario game has to come with the Mario movie.

This is where the 2D DK rumor throws me for a loop. It’s said someone in EPD 8 is making it and of course 3D Mario. If 2D DK comes I don’t see 3D Mario coming if BotW 2 makes it. There’s also a possibility of a brand new 2D Mario game. If that comes then 2D DK doesn’t come. If BotW 2 doesn’t make it then 3D Mario can come.
We know DK plays a part in the Mario movie, so they could be the same game. The rumors said just DK though, but we don't know if they're true

I don't think a Mario game has to come with the movie. I do think that all three production groups which make the major Mario franchises - 2D, 3D, and Kart - should be ready to ship a game soon. I also think that, without Pokemon this Christmas, Nintendo will want their other all-ages star brand (Mario) to have a new game out. I also think that with a line up that's so far heavy on single-player games, Nintendo might also want a big multiplayer title out later this year.

Mario mostly fits the bill, in one form or another. But I'd be chuffed to see what EPD can do with DK, too.

Mario run was so good. Too bad people complained about a one time purchase rather than getting conned out of hundreds of dollars like their other games. Would definitely buy a sequel, but it isn’t happening.

Move cancelling is actually the one thing I really like about 2's combat, because it reminds me of Super Mario RPG. >.>

getting a good EPD 9 game, rehash or not, would definitely save the year for me

I'm not sure why people make these because they're kinda evil but they do come in handy for shitposting

Keen to hear what big 3rd party releases are coming to Switch this year, I don’t think many are known at this point? Port of Alien Fireteam Elite is one I could potentially see.

so my biggest problem with this game is that it doesn't feel fun to play

I'm not sure how it would work on a controller but if it handled differently I think I'd play it
Not sure controls can salvage it. Hot take maybe but I think it's easily their worst mobile game.

I still play Mario Run even after all these years. Trying to get highs scores on each level, toad runs, remix 10, etc. I really enjoy it still.

Honestly the music is also better than what’s in NSMBU Deluxe

Yeah, but Nintendo are one of the few (the only?) who still publish games with a big local multiplayer component, like WarioWare and Mario Party last year. Even when they have a big online element, they still push local multiplayer. Splatoon 3 doesn't tick that box, though Everybody Switch might.

Plus, I was talking about the final third of the year. Splatoon 3 will be out before then.

1 is a more "complete package" than 2 but combat is the weakest link imo. It has a decent amount of room for customization but big damage is soft gated behind chain attack extensions and therefore the affinity chart, which is a fun little way to gamify power of friendship anime tropes but kind of annoying when the chain attack truly being useful is dependent on you commiting to a certain party for a good chunk of your playthrough or sidequesting.

Also it's not like 2 doesn't have cheese setups but topple locking is so hilariously strong I stopped exploring any other strategies near the end of my playthrough when I independently arrived at a usable setup for it.

All I know is that the Direct is going to open with them thanking us for tuning into the JANUARY 2022 Direct. 😤

Zombie Army 4, Remnant From the Ashes and Alan Wake Remastered are leaked for Switch.
Marvel Midnight Sun, Kingdom Come and Gollum were confirmed for Switch.

And i think its likely that there are ports of Mass Effect Trilogy, Borderlands 3, Devil May Cry 4, Desperados 3 and The King of Fighters XV

Oh. Who were the "mad nintendo fans" in that context?
Scrolls up.

Shit, I actually typed that asinine comment?

I recall that I meant it as a joke (hence the spoiler tag titled "Truth"), but in hindsight, it was a... bit stupid and unnecessarily provocative.

So, err, sorry about that, especially since I'm new here and should be learning to get along at first.

(But yeah, sometimes I'm just shitposting without even thinking.)
