Same! Wife and kids all had it last week, and was thankfully mild for them. Me however… it’s kicked my butt the last couple of days, but I think I’m just starting to round the bend, as I have a bit more energy today than the last couple of days.

Hope you feel better.

Same to you! Glad you’re feeling better!

I absolutely don't have a problem.

I love snow. I loved it even more as a kid, because it was either little enough accumulation to just be pretty, or large enough that we’d get a snow day, which meant playing in the snow, hot chocolate, and gaming all day.

The problem with snow as an adult is that for some reason people still want you to do things when it snows. Like, we should just all take a pact as a society that if it snows any reasonable amount, everyone is required to stay home and sit by the fire or something.

Comping lava into a video like that would be a lot. More than free software would probably allow. You'd have to track the floor, mask any children/furniture, etc.
I actually just discovered that my new laptop (actually more like Windows 11) has a free video editor that can add stuff like sparkles and explosions and portals and that might be enough for now. And it can track things decently well, I anchored the sparkles to one kid and it was actually quite accurate.

But yeah lava sounds tough.

Got my Kirby preorder in. Never actually played a mainline Kirby before but it looks really good. Not quite hype levels to book a long weekend yet, but we'll see. Also took the opportunity to buff the order with the 1000 piece Mario Kart puzzle and that will arrive imminently.

Huh? What happened in September of 2016 to cause a meltdown?

Fans were starving for NX news of any kind and Nintendo announced a 3DS Direct in September. The anger was off the charts.

Luckily the NX (Switch) was revealed the following month and the rest is history.

It was not a good idea to start AI:SF at 10PM last night, stayed up way too late after getting hooked almost immediately and am dragging hard today. Been a while since I did that!

Oh well, bring on the coffee!

Mario Party Superstars ruling the US eShop with an iron fist.
Between Superstars and Metroid, I can't wait to see Nintendo's quarterly numbers.

I'm super happy to see the new Mario Party game do well. Don't get me wrong, Super Mario Party great after numerous so-so releases but Superstars going back to its roots is special to me.

i'm looking forward to the update as well. we're also getting BDSP numbers. big brain academy also, if it hit 1 million in december.
The other game I am curious about is Warioware. I'm hoping it cracked a million but I'm not too optimistic. It didn't seem to chart very long.

Paper Mario is done. It’s a really good game. Overall I didn’t enjoy it as much as TTYD or Super Paper Mario, but it was really fun and definitely worth my time playing.
So glad you enjoyed it. It's aged pretty gracefully on the whole. I hope chapters 7 and 8 kept strong momentum for you since Flower Fields was your favorite up until that point. I've always thought Chapter 6 was underrated - it has such a cozy atmosphere and awesome aesthetic

has nintendo completely given up on base NSO? the last update for it was back in july 2021. it's kinda weird that they expect people to remain subscribed but are not giving them any new content.

I think Nate hinted that GB/GBC was supposed to be added to the base service so we will have to see how that plays out.

Other than that, I think we will still get a random NES/SNES game here and there. There are a few SNES gems that I'm dying to play.

I think most people are like me and we just pay for cloud saves and online play

I don't think I've touched any game since beating Crystalis

What games are left to add? They won’t add Earthbound for some reason (probably because they’re remaking it? Or Itoi said “no”?) but other than that they’re done I think

the only DS series left that i want on switch is picross 3D

yeah true, but it still doesn't feel right when retro games are one of the advertised features of the service. it's like PS+, i'm sure a lot of people will keep their subs to play online games but if they suddenly stopped giving away free games people would complain.

there's not much left, yeah. which is why they should do something else. like (as you mentioned) game boy games.

It's honestly why I'm so hesitant to get my hopes up for the Expansion Pack. At least if they announced there are no further plans to add to it would mitigate everyone's disappointment rather than stringing them along.

Although along this note, I wonder if anyone has datamined the NES/SNES games list since July 2021 like they did N64; are there any gaps left or are all the games on those platforms accounted for?

Fucking PLEASE

I want so badly for more mysteries and adventures with Kyle Hyde

yeah this is worrying also for the expansion pack. say in like a year they're out of genesis/n64 games to add. are they just gonna leave it at that, and then add a more expensive tier for gamecube games, while asking people who don't want to upgrade to just keep paying for just online?

I bet Game Boy games on NSO got put on the back burner until they can figure out how to make Pokémon Stadium on N64 NSO work

Post YFW they make games like Earthbound, SMRPG, etc special perks for subscribing to the Expansion Pack.

I know it may be confusing but honestly that's probably the only way we're gonna get those games on NSO at this rate. The bumped up price for the Expansion Pack is probably the big reason they were able to get the big third parties like Sega, Microsoft, Konami, etc onboard.

Super Mario RPG is the big one that I am waiting on. I know it is a Square thing, but we have seen the game show up on other services/products in the past so it shouldn't be impossible.

There is probably a hundred other games that I could list, but the vast majority are either held in licensing hell or the 3rd parties are already selling them in their own collection sku's (see Capcom and Konami)

i'm still convinced the reason earthound/earthbound zero were never added to NSO is because they have some other plans for the mother series on switch.

SMRPG is def being held up by Square wanting to put NFTs in it or some shit

Earthbound, who knows what’s going on there. Could be Itoi, could be incoming remake.
EarthBound has longstanding legal issues with music, which is why it wasn't on the Wii Virtual Console.

I think that is why Nintendo start off the expansion pack by adding the Animal Crossing DLC. They know that at some point they will run out of legacy games for the current systems that are in place and that they will need to keep adding contact to keep people subscribed.

I'm actually working on a thread about future DLC and the NSO expansion pass.

That's so curious to me though; were there any other Gameboy games that had meaningful connectivity with well received N64 games that aren't Pokemon?
IIRC Mario Golf and Tennis on the GBC had some sort of connection with their N64 counterparts.

Actually I just realized Earthbound Beginnings isn't on the NSO. For as much work as Nintendo put into localizing that game, I figured they would bring it to the Switch eventually.

it would be awesome if by having the NSO expansion pass you get some of the expansions to big first party games for free (botw 2, splatoon 3, etc), but i'm not holding my breath. the animal crossing DLC seemed like something they gave away just so people would subscribe right away, and also to justify the ridiculous price at launch.

they did nothing for that one, lol. its localization was done all the way back in the NES days. they just dumped the rom on virtual console with no additional work.

It was on Wii U and 3DS VC, and it was on the SNES Classic tho

I think the difference there is that those were seperate purchasable products and not a rental for a $20 service.

Really I just think that's what it is: Nintendo seemingly has no budget for bigger third party games for base NSO, which is why we keep getting the weird bargain bin games on SNES instead of the games with more apparent legal issues like EB and SMRPG. Once again the Expansion Pack is seemingly a different story, hence why they've gotten games that feel like they wouldn't be there otherwise like Contra Hard Corps and Castlevania Bloodlines (both of which are already on compilations).

I am so freaking happy with Shadow Man on Switch! That game has lost nothing of its great and sometimes haunting atmosphere.

NSO for me feels like Nintendo's efforts on mobile. Just for the inverstors and to shut them up, but it's more successful than they anticipated.

Subscriptions are basically the anthithesis of Nintendo's mentality of the worth of their games and IPs. Especially them seeing 64 games selling from the range of $10-20.

Chapter 7 was the highlight of the game. The final dungeon was decent but it definitely suffered from “JRPG final dungeon syndrome” in that it was longer than it needed to be.
