I'm 60h into SMTV and here I am at work anxious to get back home so I can play more. It's incredible how addictive this game is, it manages to keep you hooked all the way through.

Complaints about game length are wrong, people should be complaining about boring games.

Is this basically a way to get Bloodborne Easy Mode then? The only way I can get into From Software games is if I break the fuck out of them. Is this really game breaking?

You still have to beat Father Gascoigne and the Blood-Starved Beast, and if you can do that you're ready to best the rest of 'em.

Nate is saying a new Fire Emblem (not Geneology of the Holy War remake, that’s coming 2023) by the Three Houses team is coming in 2022 on his podcast

Time for... Four Houses

damn FE is becoming one of Nintendo’s biggest IPs huh???

Mate, I had to forcibly stop playing it because I'd get distracted by it when working from home. Haven't played it in. Couple of weeks but seeing your post is making me crave it again.

Woop woop

Wait hot damn

I read 'new Fire Emblem 2022' and didn't process 'Holy War remake in 2023'

WOOP WOOP LET'S GOOOOOOOOO

I gotta find some time to finish Three Houses before the next FE comes out. I remember getting stuck in that battle against the black beast, then moved on to other games and never came back to Three Houses since.

Yes, more FE characters for future smash base game.

Isn’t a bit quick for a completely new FE game? Unless there is a bit of confusion and Nintendo is preparing FE 3 Houses Musou sequel

Nah it definitely sounds like "the team that made Three Houses's next game is coming in 2022"

Three Houses came out in summer 2019, so if this new game comes summer 2022 that'd be three years (one for each house). That makes sense.

My assumption here is that 2023's remake is going to have a bigger staff from Intelligent Systems itself - perhaps, with Paper Mario out and done on Switch, they've decided to do a FE remake with more of their own staff available (a big chunk of IS staff would have been freed up in spring/summer 2020, after Origami King wrapped up). It's also potentially the case Holy War was bubbling away in the background before that, but that a full production team has only been assembled in 2020. Presumably, 'same team as Three Houses' means the same handful of IS staff with the bulk of the team coming from Koei-Tecmo.

Personally would enjoy more games set in Fodlan, even if it happened well before or after Three Houses and didn't feature the same characters.

They sure are gonna reuse (and probably improved) the Three Houses engine, so yeah KT will likely be part of the development again.

Mario Kart 8 came out before my first mental breakdown in college. It's probably my lone connection to a simpler time when I didn't have to worry so much about the state of my mental health 🥲

okay, I'm too biased to properly assess outsourced pikmin games

but next level games pikmin makes no sense to anybody else either, right?
Yeah, it's no peanut butter and jam matchmade in heaven. I'd imagine a more arcade-y version of Hey! Pikmin, but I doubt that would make it anymore fun for me to consider picking up

So has anyone made the decision that they're not going to watch any more BotW2 trailers?

I think I might actually do that this time. I'm not as hyped for BotW as I want to be and I think that intentionally limiting my exposure to the game will make me finally getting my hands on it that much more exciting. That and the original game had practically all its cutscenes shown in trailers so it'd be nice to not have that happen again :p

I'm gonna give the first game a try and see if I can just get into it. Didn't click with me the first time.
But it's not crazy. It's easy to get overhyped and burnt out on trailers.

read this as Four Horses and I am unironically unopposed

What would be interesting is what back to back Fire Emblem titles means for Paper Mario, which Intelligent Systems obviously play a big role in.

In Scenario 1, an FE: Holy War remake draws the bulk of its development team from Intelligent Systems itself - perhaps including the bulk of the staff from Origami King after that wrapped up. The main development cycle would therefore run from early 2020 into 2023, though perhaps the leads from Shadows of Valentia were working on prototype and pre-production plans for a Holy War remake on and off before that.

Scenario 1 means there's no easily available development resources for a new Paper Mario, and that the series potentially misses its almost clockwork quadrennial appearance in 2024. However, Nintendo have easy options when it comes to Paper Mario:

  • port Color Splash. While a divisive entry in the series, it is a HD Paper Mario title and would require the least intensive effort.
  • remaster one of the standard definition Paper Mario titles. This scenario would require more effort, but it could perhaps be entrusted to a small team at Intelligent Systems with outsourcing occurring (perhaps to an established partner, like Grezzo or Tantalus, or someone else).

Scenario 2, on the other hand, doesn't really have ramifications for Paper Mario. In Scenario 2, the Holy War remake is another joint effort between Intelligent Systems and another team, to encourage development efficiency and to avoid taking resources away from Paper Mario. The logical choice would be Koei-Tecmo, who may have the resources to spare for two Fire Emblem titles at a time.

But it wouldn't necessarily be Koei-Tecmo - who knows if they have the staff to spare, after all? Certainly not I. That means Intelligent Systems choose a different development partner for their remake - perhaps Grezzo, who have experience with medieval fantasy games and in remastering and remaking old Nintendo titles. Or, perhaps Nintendo choose to assign development support from one of their subsidiaries: Monolith Soft have experience with fantasy games and JRPGs, and have much more staffpower than they used too. Or perhaps Intelligent Systems draw on an unforeseen development partner.

I'll probably keep watching them because I need to know what that game is gonna be

I suppose to me, I'm already gonna buy the game. I'm already gonna finish it. So why do I need to know more? For some games I want to know more (like Smash, for instance) but for this one I think it'll be better to let myself discover everything fresh. If the game is a dumpster fire I'm sure the backlash will be big enough for me to notice lol

Doesn't help that I tend to have quite a good memory when it comes to trailers. I find I'm always thinking "when is that one part gonna happen?" or "oooh, this is just before that part," when playing some titles.

I only tune in to listen to Nate talk about washing my balls.

Actually, kind of unfortunate timing with the release of the podcast. They are talking about how Pokemon Legends gameplay is shrouded in mystery and if we should be worried that Kirby hasn't been dated yet
I thought the same thing lol, although he did nail the late March release date.

Wow, Nate dropped a bomb during the podcast. He said he knows that a Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War remake is in development but it will not be coming out this year.

Because a brand new Fire Emblem game is coming out this year by the team that did Three Houses

...just reading this got me insanely hyped. I freaking love FE and I legit can't wait for the next one.

Presumably, for the Holy War remake next year, Nintendo make use of the Echoes brand again. Be interesting to see if it has a different visual style, too, or if Nintendo are OK with similar looking annual Fire Emblem releases.

I never beat Three Houses as 2019 was very stacked for games, but I'm excited to play a new title soon. Hopefully it will be more graphically impressive

Yo @LuckyNumber69 get hyped 👀

So we are getting a new FE game this year and remake this year. Essentially a repeat of the 3ds generation: 2 new mainlines and a remake.

I hope this time the new FE game looks decently better than Three Houses since they have the engine and assets ready. Also, my biggest concern, if they do branching stories again, please, please keep repeating maps to a minimum.

Three houses had far too much repeated maps and that burnt me out.

Other than that, it's hype mode!

I promise to post pet pictures soon (is hidden content 100% working now?) as penance for my chaotic vibes

2022 has been a weird ride so far

also I keep trying to avoid seeing Arceus stuff but I did peek at a little bit of the gameplay preview and I think I’m really gonna like it

I'm gonna guess that the remake is being done by IS directly. I wouldn't be surprised if they are using an different engine entirely. Maybe even using what the engine they used for Paper Mario Origami King.

I do expect it to look different than Three Houses. The first Echoes was visually distinct from Awakening and Fates.

Honestly if Nate’s Nintendo 2022 predictions are even close to right, this is about to be a banger year (and it was already looking great based off officially announced games anyway).

Near the end of the podcast he lists them all out and it’s just wild (1st party alone).

Whisper it but.... Hidari could be back.
