The spirit of the January 2013 Direct of Dreams is strong with Team January. Remember the days when the idea of an HD full remake of a 3D Zelda or a full-on console Yoshi sequel was out there speculation?

Hello all!

Switchum here. You might remember me from the Direct and Switch Pro hype days of ResetEra.

I always come around when Direct hype starts to grow, and this year is no exception!

I look forward to having conversation with you all! You’re all so welcoming and I am excited to re-join the community.

If it’s not too late, could I be put down for #TeamFebruary? My birthday is on February 11 and I like to believe we’ll see a Nintendo Direct around that time :)

Thanks everyone!
Welcome to the Zone, where normal things don't happen.............very often.

This is the very first week during Famiboards' existence that Direct season is in full force and there's actually a legit chance (even if it's very very small) of one happening, isn't it? Quite the milestone! Will this give us our very first instance of people posting leading up to announcement time followed by reset the clock/the usual memes/etc.? Ah, the forum's growing up so fast!

Only if someone has the data on hand, I’m curious how many times Games Done Quick overlapped with a Nintendo Direct of some kind. It’s happened a decent amount I believe. Just saying Awesome Games Done Quick is happening this week which could increase the odds lol.

Throw me in for team Feb.

I joke about it being March, but Ill go with the safe option of Feb

It's been changed. A reminder that January 41st is still January, but January 27th is not February. 🙃

One thing I want to see in the next Direct is what new project Panic Button is working on bringing to Switch. They likely have a majority of the team on a new port project right? Be interesting to see what they are bringing over next.

A Direct Speculation thread without a post from me? Unheard of.

I hereby correct this problem:

After Pokemon Legends release.

If Nintendo do a January Direct, all my confidence for February was completely ill-founded; but I honestly wouldn't care.

I'm ready to be advertised at. Do you hear me, Furukawa?

I AM READY TO BE ADVERTISED AT

I remember when we used to get general Directs in January.
People that know the history of January Directs know that they only happen when Nintendo's in dire straits or special occasions. In the first full year of Directs, there was not a January Direct in 2012 and the first 2012 Direct was on February 22nd. The "legendary" Jan 2013 Direct had a section during Wind Waker HD's reveal where Iwata straight up admitted to their own audience that the Gamecube was a failure because it, and I quote, "didn't have [a] very big install base". 2014 didn't have one (outside Korea). 2015 had a general that introduced the New 3DS to NA and was more of a general in Japan...And that's it.

In Nintendo's entire Direct history there have only been two cases of general, non-mini Directs in January. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Don't be like this :(

Jokes aside, though, are people predicting any specific dates within their months of choice?

For a January Direct, I don't think there's much more space rather than next week. Having Arceus its release on the 28th, I think that takes out the chances of a Direct happening there. Then, the previews usually take place two weeks prior - that is, this week, going with what I think it's the common pattern, they will be out on wednesday, so no way Nintendo is pulling a Direct the day after or before. So the only think we have is next week, I'd say.

If previews come on a different date (say, next week, no more avaliable slots), this should be the week. So, yeah, not a huge range of options. I'd say, if January is the month (although every mont is an extended January), the Direct will take place the 19th or 20th.

Last September, Nintendo Direct was on the 24th (23rd), two weeks before Metroid Dread was released.
And the Metroid Dread preview was the following week, on Monday the 27th.

I say the next direct is on 10-02-2022. So I guess will be #TeamFebruary

Time to be wrong.

If 2021 was a Thursday year, then 2022 is a Wednesday year. My guess is still February 9th, or perhaps 16th. Nintendo might announce the Kirby release date on Twitter soon, too, just as they did for Yoshi in 2019.

Right, I was actually just thinking earlier that I couldn't remember what weekday we should set the expectation to this year. Now we'll have less anguish and fewer false alarms for the first half of hype weeks but more broken dreams when the time passes and people go "Wait, it could still be tomorrow, couldn't it? COULDN'T IT? PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF"

My jury duty on the 9th (which had me convinced there was a direct that day) is very possibly getting cancelled due to COVID so maybe it won't be the 9th after all.

Nintendo has favored the third week of February, more specifically between the 13th and the 17th, for Q1 Directs. There has never been a Feb general Direct before the 13th or later than the 4th week.

# of Feb 13th-17th (aka 3rd week) general Directs: 4
# of Feb 4th week general Directs: 2 (1 of which was a JP only 3DS direct)

March is much less common, but not as rare in the Switch era (though the circumstances for each one are unique). There are only three and they have all happened in the post-Iwata 2016+ years.

Mar 3, 2016: arguably Nintendo's low
Mar 8, 2018: same year a mini had aired earlier in Jan, likely to satiate fans expecting a Jan Direct after last year's presentation (which only happened because the Switch was delayed from holiday '16 to Mar '17)
Mar 26!, 2020: Is there anything that needs to be said? pandemic, ACNH Direct on Feb 20th, but easily the longest wait for a Q1 Direct AND a mini

TLDR: February 17th, on account of history, PLA on Jan 28, Jan regular Directs being dead in the Switch era, & Q1 Directs alternating between Wed/Thurs each year

…which is exactly why they will break tradition and host one this week!

Valentine's Direct it is.
* starts saving money for a rose *

I've added a poll regarding this week's events. I hope to see any others explain their thoughts

I voted Pokemon Presents but I don't even think it'll be that, more likely just another overview video or trailer for Arceus.

Maybe we get a trailer drop for Kirby with a one-night buildup similar to the 3D World trailer this exact week last year??

So Mario Kart 9 has been leaked? Or what the hell is going on Twitter?
Big journalist feller says Mario Kart 9 is in active development, will likely be at least shown this year, and has some big twist

An analyst said MK9 is in active development. Which is like the easiest prediction ever. I might become an analyst myself and say the next 3D Mario is in active development.
