Here is the third and final of our three Nintendo Direct teams. Keep in mind that these teams are for the first general Nintendo Direct of the year, either a full Nintendo Direct or a Nintendo Direct Mini. Any new similar formats that are general (i.e. not focused on a specific game, genre, theme, etc) will apply as well.

If you would like to change your team, please just let me know with an @! If I've made a mistake, which is pretty likely, please let me know the same way. Also, usernames in bold have changed their forum title to "#TeamMarch" and will receive double the normal prize if they win the raffle. If you would like to change your title, go to your "Account details" and enter your "Custom title." This has to be "#TeamMarch" exactly to qualify.

A tight band of chaos enjoyers and skeptics, Team March is uniquely comprised of both the forum's most creative shitposters and most pessimistic analysts. Small enough to know each other by name, this dark horse team is bound by their bravery and brashness. They are generally removed from the rivalry of the other two teams.

Yep, definitely me! #TeamRaccoon is a personal stance and not an official stance approved by the Suswave Foundation.

I would also like to reassure my “dark horse” teammates that incineration measures will not be invoked for the duration of this exercise, neither by me nor the Suswave Foundation. : )

According to OP, Team February is more like Team Spock.

Well, I'm glad I'm in Team January, aka Team Worf ! ^^

it's Obvious the direct will be in February at the earliest

Pokemon LA marketing is what Nintendo is focusing on right now, and we just got out from a decent amount of releases in the last Quarter

there's no reason to have a direct this month

I love the write ups @Raccoon!

#TeamJanuary finally happening again this year is sure gonna mess up so many well thought out and thoroughly explained and reasoned "patterns" huh? Hoo buddy... I can't wait!

And we only have so many more days left to go anyway.

Also, if we're going Star Trek Captains, ya'll can have Picard, #TeamJanuary is more Janeway anyway.

I’m guessing somewhere between January and February, though I’m leaning more on February, since Arceus is out this month.

So do we expect Xenoblade 3 to be in the direct? How about Metroid Prime? Bayonetta? Fire Emblem? A new Zelda trailer? So many possibilities.

I’m not the biggest fan of Splatoon but I do like the single player a lot. Can we expect a meaty campaign for Splatoon 3?

This direct really has me hyped.

Been thinking about 3D Mario on Switch and really wanting Galaxy 2 and 3D Land to complete my collection and I’m realizing how frustrating 3D All Stars limited release is.

Like Sunshine and Galaxy technically aren’t “available” on switch anymore so it feels like we’ve walked back and Nintendo will focus on getting those on switch another money-grabbing way instead of prioritizing Galaxy 2 or 3D Land on it.

On a similar note I’m wondering if I should scoop 3D All Stars physical and how rare it’s getting

I think Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is highly likely to turn up, given it was delayed from a late 2021 release to 2022, and given Nintendo's initial plan (per Nate) was to reveal it in early 2021 ahead of a late 2021 launch. Regardless of the launch timing, if the game is a 2022 game, I expect a reveal soon.

Bayonetta 3 I'm expecting to be a second half release, maybe even Q4, so we might not see it again until E3.

Zelda is a maybe; I think we see it if Nintendo are 100% confident on launching it in 2022.

As with Xenoblade, I think that Fire Emblem will be announced soon if it's a 2022 game, and so will be in the Direct if that'd the case.

Metroid Prime HD could potentially wait until E3 and be tied to a Prime 4 teaser; but then remember February 2021, when Nintendo were happy to announce Skyward Sword HD without showing more of BotW2.

So um yeah. They're all possible, but Xenoblade 3 is the only one I'd feel confident on definitely showing up.

Xenoblade 3 is the most plausible closer imo. Nintendo always end Directs on a high note and that could be a banger reveal.

For opener, something unexpected unlike Xeno 3. Could be something from third party, literally nobody expected Sunbreak from September Direct. One of those Asano games maybe? Final Fantasy IX remake but in Bravely style, from team Asano. Now that's a hype opener reveal.

I expect MP HD and bayonetta, xenoblade 3 is a maybe with either the first general direct or E3, FE and Zelda seem like E3 stuff

I may be out of the rumor mill on this but, what happened to Monolith Soft's original IP? The one we saw concept art for years ago? I see everyone expecting Xenoblade 3 when I would have guessed that game was way more likely to release this year. Or is that thought to be Xenoblade 3 now?

It's now apparently said to just be promotional art, not actual concept art for any new IP. The whole thing is confusing.

Yeah, the new IP situation at Monolith Soft is confusing. But, they are much bigger than they used to be. It's entirely possible they're doing more than Xenoblade, Zelda co-development, and the usual Kyoto assistance, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're working on a medieval fantasy IP similar to that art from 2017.

it's really just this weekend that'll be excruciating

starting on Monday we have some hope of hearing about Kirby, and from there the hype season will be in full swing

unfortunately rumors seem to be pretty rare these days so we might not get much excitement prior to a direct, but y'know

Well we have some people hinting here and there I guess. I feel the new year is already starting pretty decently. Looking forward to next week :D

Come to think of it, if we take Nate's word that XB3 was initially supposed to be an early 2021 reveal and late 2021 release, doesn't that mean that XB3 is likely to be slotted around the end of this year, like December, despite BotW2 then? Assuming it gets reveal in the big Q1 Direct, that is. Because otherwise, why not reveal it in the September '21 Direct instead?

I'm not sure if this is something we can infer, but I see the sense in what you're saying. It's possible Nintendo may have settled on a shorter reveal to release window instead of sticking to the original plan to have a lengthy marketing campaign, in which case the game could be out sooner than late 2022. It'll depend where everything else is falling for 2022, too; perhaps they can't necessarily lift the Xenoblade plan from 2021 and apply it 2022, because there are different games to think about.

Or maybe they can! Who knows.

wait does a “Pokémon Presents” count as a direct?
They count as directs, i count every Nintendo related announcements as directs. Just not 'general directs' which is what people complain about when we haven't had one, but they tend to use very loose terminology. Like 2020 had lots of announcements yet the complaint was there was 'no directs'.

Creative shitposter is the best thing someone said to me this year ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hey Guys, long Time not see, looks like NintendoEra found a new Home:) My first Post here :)

I'm in for #TeamFebruary, hope it won't be a Mini tho.

Can we get a #TeamApril? I'd prefer to pick the most chaotic option.

I don't think there's any specific time of year that can really be inferred from the original intended plan. If anything, it might slightly bias things a bit earlier, since it was originally supposed to be done by now, but Nintendo doesn't always release things immediately after they're done, so it's really anyone's guess at this point.

Team Change Deadline
The rough deadline for setting or changing your team affiliation, as well as committing with a forum title, is currently Tuesday, January 11. This is in honor of the four year anniversary of the legendary 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini, as well as in commemoration of being a day that I have free.

EDIT: Please also note that I will Yeah! your request when I address it. If I do not Yeah! your request in a reasonable time frame, please @ me again

that's a fair point

that's the day I take final adjustments into account, so you pretty much won't be able to change that day, especially if there's a direct announced lol

Pokemon direct this month, next month general one. Only because Arceus existence
I’m not as sure anymore, now that that overview trailer is out. Makes me wonder if we’ll just get more of that kind of marketing for Arceus, then a General Direct in early Feb, and then a Pokémon Direct on Pokémon day that talks about the future of Pokémon post-Arceus.

Of course a Pokémon Direct is still absolutely possible this week regardless of a new trailer, it does just make me doubt a little

The bigger Team February gets the less faith I have. Watch Team March fuckin win this. 😂

Doubling down with that custom title 😎

I hate to say this as the hype curator, but I see zero way for team march to win. there's just too much that needs said
I think the only way March wins (and I think it’s unlikely, but possible) is if we get that early Mini really soon and then the General is like, late March or something.
