I think there is a reasonable chance of a 2023 game showing up. Splatoon 3 was revealed in February, after all.
Not only Splatoon 3 but Triangle Strategy as well!!

I definitely see a 2023 game being shown or announced there.
I don't think they'll show Metroid Prime 4 before E3, but if they want to go for a longer marketing cycle for the remaster and reveal it alongside 4, it would make sense.
I think Super Mario Odyssey 2 (or whatever the next 3D Mario is) is an early 2023 game, so that would make a lot of sense as the "there's more stuff coming in the future" announcement.
Mario Kart would be the absolutely best choice, but I think that one will be announced closer to release, so it doesn't hurt 8 Deluxe.
Maybe they surprise us with another third party exclusive like Triangle Strategy tho, and I won't even try to guess which one it would be lol.

I don't think Xenoblade will be December this time because that'll be too close to Zelda, and I think Bayo is more likely to take the Astral Chain August spot than the Bayo 1 October spot, because sending it out to die on the holiday season too close to Zelda or Metroid doesn't seem right.

Also, lemme see your list!!
Seriously my list has been just just Yeah!ing other peoples' lists. LOL I don't have a brain for the widespread predictions, I mostly only have gut feelings about Kirby being March, Splatoon being June/July, and Zelda being November. Which is boring as hell. 😅

Oh and I think Pokemon Legends will probably be January. 🤷‍♂️

Well, the Earnings Release is on February 3.
That's the first week of February, the week after the release of Pokémon Legends Arceus.
Except for Pokémon Legends Arceus, none of the other titles have been dated yet, and it doesn't usually happen that NCL has the Earnings Release in such a state.
For example, in 2021, Pikmin3DX was announced the day before the Earnings Release to avoid having to the Earnings Release without any dated titles.
Also, in 2019, there was a Nintendo Direct in February, which was avoided by announcing the release date of Yoshi's Crafted World on Twitter.
So what I'm trying to say is that I expect some sort of announcement from NCL this month, regardless of whether there is a Dirct or not.

Yes, I am #TeamJanuary.:p

Wait… I forgot about them wanting to have dates for the earnings. That’s a big point for team January.

But at the same time I feel like we’ve said that before and they didn’t so…

this is pretty funny (and sad) but it's worth reminding everyone that Kirby has been rated by the ESRB and as such is likely pretty much finished

I'm expecting it March 18th at this point
That would make birthday shopping for my girlfriend incredibly easy

Isn't Advance Wars dated for April 8th? It says that on the e-shop.

I hope Outer Wilds drops soon after the direct, I've been holding off for the switch version.

In light of AOC passing 4 million, what do you think is next for Nintendo and Warriors?

Hyrule Warriors 2 just seems kinda like a dead end as of now? Like yeah they could go back and add stuff from… the Oracles? Like what else would there be since they blew the BotW load big time on AOC, making an entire game around it which was definitely the correct move in hindsight. I’d wait til after BotW2 to even think about that.

The most obvious thing to me is the next Fire Emblem Warriors. And specifically Three Houses, as AOC was specific to BotW. Of course Three Houses isn’t as successful as BotW, but it is a very popular game for FE. I think the core FE fanbase who would buy FE Warriors in the first place would be down for that.

The next most likely imo is Xenoblade Warriors. The franchise keeps growing and introduces a dozen or more potential playable characters with each game, and tons of varied vistas. It would fit perfectly

I'm with you on Fire Emblem Warriors being the next logical project, not sure about limiting it to Fódlan. One main criticism against the first one was the roster being mostly limited to Shadow Dragon, Awakening and Fates. With Heroes being so popular and exposing people to characters from other entries I'm not sure if thy would take kindly to another one that ignores the other 10+ games in the series.

As for Hyrule Warriors, I haven't played the DLC for Age of Calamity yet but I don't think there's anything preventing a direct sequel in the same timeline. They could draw from BotW2 and bring in their own stuff as well.

FE Warriors 2 seems like a given, yeah. I think Xenoblade could totally be the next IP to enter the Warriors realm, but to me it seems that the wisest path there would be to release XC3, wait a year or so with all the DLCs and so on, and, after all of that, publish the game. So maybe a 2023-2024 title, but not something I'd expect this year - FE seems the safest bet.

But, wait, Pikmin Warriors. DA DREAM.

I can see Koei-Tecmo feeling that a Three Houses orientated Warriors game might be the best move, given they'll have all the assets and character models ready to use and given it's huge popularity, but I personally feel that wouldn't be a satisfying route to take. Three Houses already told the same story four different times, I don't really have the appetite for it to be told a fifth time.

IMO they should do what has made Heroes so successful and just go bonkers on the fanservice. Hell, if they brought over the majority of characters from the first Fire Emblem Warriors, then a large smattering of Three Houses characters, then add in a sprinkling of fan favs from the Shadows of Valentia, the Blazing/Binding blade games and the Telius games, I think people would be a lot more satisfied with the roster. As for the story, do what Heroes did: go utterly crazy and not bother making sense of it.

They could also do a February 1st/2nd Direct I guess.

Smash Bros Warriors is the ultimate dream.

Wasn't that the scenario before the February Direct in 2021, with 3D World being the last dated game? Or did New Pokemon Snap have a release date by then?

The earnings release will still have games on it for 2022, anyway, and it's the 9 month earnings release rather than the start of a new financial year, so I'm not sure how much importance Nintendo would attach to having specific dates on it. It'll still have Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta 3, and Zelda as international releases for 2022, plus Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for Japan, plus Triangle Strategy and Advance Wars for the rest of the world, so it's not like it's going to be devoid of information.

Kirby is the one thing I could see getting a release date before a Direct, especially if it's a March title, because that would be launching within the present financial year.

This is what the people who liked Subspace Emissary wanted, right?
Exactly.

With KT's penchant for wild cinematics and classic Musou gameplay as well as tons and tons of content (think adventure mode maps from HW) I genuinely think it can be one of the best games ever made.

This is my guess for the 2022 lineup:

January: Pokémon Legends Arceus
February:
March: Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Triangle Strategy
April: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
May:
June: Splatoon 3
July: Fire Emblem (New/Remake?)
August:
September: Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Metroid Prime remaster
October: Bayonetta 3, casual game rumored by Emily
November: Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
December: Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Honestly, I don’t think both Zelda and Xenoblade should be slotted in the last couple months of the year. One or the other could be delayed to March 2023—out of the two, Zelda makes more sense to be delayed. Metroid Prime remaster could replace Zelda to become the holiday game. I just don’t see Xenoblade 3 getting a ~1.5 year delay from their original launch plan. I also don’t want to wait until 2023! 😅

IIRC Emily said the casual horse stinker is supposedly in H1.

I am a bit mixed. Cause in one hand you can actually push a direct before Legends. People that want to buy it, will buy it anyway. On the other hand, there is only focus on Legends now as it is the next big game coming up. If there is a direct in January I feel it is either tomorrow or next week. Otherwise is takes too much marketing from Pokémon.

I do expect a Pokémon Presents with a focus on Legends Arceus soon.

Make a game about the war between Godess Hylia and Demise that is in the backstory of Skyward Sword.

Skyward Sword videogameatic universe confirmed. Bodes well for games starring Groose and Impa.

Groose couldn't even make it in to Hyrule Warriors 1 when they went with basically every character of note from across the series. Over two games and two season passes.

I know I'm too blunt basically all the time, but BOTW got a specific sequel to itself because it's approaching having sold the same as all the previous 3D zeldas combined, BOTW is getting milked because it's basically a reboot of the series in the same way OoT was and we should expect games following it (when they actually finally move on from just straight milking the setting of BOTW directly!), to treat it in a similar reverence in the way that MM, WW and TP were all OoT sequels with callbacks to that, and not that much else, even though LTTP, at the very least, was seen with great reverence too.

In the same line of logic, I'm not sure Fire Emblem Warriors: Three houses edition will happen, that game didn't expand the series sales in the same way, and among the biggest complaints about FEW one was already that it focused way too hard on a small subset of the games, with "Here's Marth and the 3DS games, what other FE titles could you want?", whereas Hyrule Warriors 1 made sure to spray nods to the other games around even if they weren't directly included in the original Wii U game without DLC.

I mean sure... but you get that my post about a Groose game looking more likely was a joke, right friend?

One of the reasons I think a Three Houses FE Warriors could happen is simple logistics - environments and character models all exist (made by KT, no less) to help make that spin-off a more efficient prospect than having to create new character models for characters drawn from multiple different FE games - many of which will be nowhere near as well known as the casts of the recent FE games and some of which have still never had an international release.

I think this might be Hyrule Warriors 3 at some point.
Just as an aside, I would like a new Hyrule Warriors which follows the same vein as the first at some point, where we see the likes of Midna, Fi and the OOT sages taking to the battlefield alongside the BOTW champions/descendants. There was a simple fanservicey joy to the first game which really kept me going, and I'd like to see that repeated someday. AoC was great and all but...I want Tetra vs Sidon, and Urbosa vs Nabooru, and a Revali vs Midna snark off

Man, we have so many things tailored for me coming out this month and in the following several weeks, and I still feel like it's so far away

  • We don't know the exact release date for Banjo even though it's most likely imminent
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus feels as far away as possible while still technically being "this month"
  • Kirby, Trifecta Stratagem, and Advance Wars are soon, but unfortunately on the other side of the desert we call February

February will be filled with your dreams. After the January or early February direct ;)

They could still pull from The Blazing/Binding Blade, Radiant games and whatever Echos game gets released.

A Three Houses Warriors game isn’t needed since there are a lot more games they could pull from that wouldn’t piss off the hardcore fan base. Because I’m pretty sure Serenes Forest is still pissed at KT for not including Ike.

Oh, and they can include every character from the previous game as well. No reason not to include them since it would be extra content.

Not sure if 'not pissing off the core fanbase' is going to be as important as 'prioritising international growth' for the series. It'd be great to see them hit both those criteria, of course!

I just think there are valid logistical reasons as to why a Three Houses focused spin-off might be in the works. I would never rule out a different kind of Warriors, or a different kind of spin-off.

Arceus does feel pretty far away, even if it's only three weeks. I'm super excited about Elden Ring as well, but that's also at the very end of February, practically March, so February does indeed feel like a bit of a desert.

We should start seeing more and more news and updates to things starting soon, though, we're already seeing some things popping up and it's going to ramp up even more before long. The earnings report and a Direct would make for a nice bit of Nintendo stuff to tide us through February, plus we're probably due for a State of Play before long as well.

I hadn’t played the game and I thought Nintendo’s most recent tweet meant more board coming to MPS lol

I’m pretty sure that is where Fire Emblem Heroes comes in. This past year they had a lot of Three Houses content and will most likely have more this year.

And most of the games I listed would probably have international growth since those games are recognized by the Smash Bros. community. My main concern would be addressing the huge omissions from the first Warriors game.

My predictions of releases

January: Pokemon Arceus
March: Triangle Strategy
April: Advance Wars 1 & 2 Reboot Camp
May: Kirby and the Forgotten Kingdom
June: Splatoon 3
July: Mario x Rabbids 2: Spark of Hope
August: Bayonetta 3
March 2023: Breath of the Wild sequel

As for unknowns/unannounced games

  • Metroid Prime remaster (Anniversary this year, November release to tie into that)
  • Xenoblade 3 (December game for me)
  • Resident Evil game (Mentioned in the Capcom leak, October time release)
  • Mario & DK joint 3D platformer game (Released November for movie hype)
