I think we should make a Speculation Containment Thread after this one so that we don't clog up the general thread wondering what's next.

I mean presumably it's Partner Showcase by Thursday at the latest, and then Pokemon Presents by or on the 27th. Thinking about Nintendo's release calendar, Pokemon Presents is also well timed because it'll mean they have at least more than one confirmed and dated release on their schedule. But if it's Peach in March, Pokemon in November, that's a big stretch to fill at some point.
I actually would totally agree with creating the Speculation thread! I know there's probably a good amount of users that probably won't want to see all the speculation that is bound to happen, especially now, or just are intentionally trying to stay away from it so I feel like that could be a good call overall! :)

Well being working on a lot of stuff and come back and everybody and the site has shitting on itself.
Fun times.
I mean at the end things would come out at the time they come out.
So chill everybody enjoy sfuff and life.
One could say go touch grass. ;P

So potential 2024 by Nintendo:
  • Princess Peach
  • Fire Emblem 4 Remake
  • Paper Mario
  • Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
  • Metroid Prime 2 (and 3?)
  • Pokémon game
  • Maybe Zelda remakes

Am I missing something?
The Namco remaster? Maybe Luigi's Mansion 1 in addition to 2? Maybe DKCR? A Pokémon spin-off? Theoretically, there's no shortage of possibilities, Nintendo has enough to fuel the Switch pretty much properly if they want to. It's only a 4-month delay, if all that's true. The real problem is that surely all of this stockpile of games was also intended to feed the Switch 2 pipeline and ensure a steady stream of releases, in the same way that the Wii U ports helped the Switch a lot. So if you dip into those games this year to fill holes, you'll have less in reserve for later. I suppose maybe a bad last year is better than a bad first year....

I wish these rumours didn't come out on a Friday. If Nintendo hears an outcry, maybe they will have to say something (Like MS had to), but with it coming out on Friday, we have two days where nothing will or can be said.
I doubt they would ever come out and comment on stuff like this unless they decided beforehand that it is part of their communication strategy

I said it in the hardware speculation and I'll say it here:

If they don't have General Nintendo Direct out next week after the news of delay to 2025, then they have no fucking business continuing to be a First Party because they clearly can't handle all the necessities of being a major platform holder. It's not just whether or not their hardware has been lacking, it's also the implication that their subpar handling of Nintendo Direct IP has zero excuses.

Steam is free and yet it's a thousand times more functional than the Switch's garbage OS and NSO.

Yeah, Nintendo isn't breathing a word on this. Next we'll hear from them on this console is when they reveal it.

And I'm pretty sure they'll never acknowledge they delayed it, anyway, since that was an internal decision.

You've seen their sales number and financial performance of recent years, right?

Jesus, the hyperbole because of a delay that got leaked. If some of you would know the actual amounts of delays and cancelled projects in this industry that never gets public because there is not as much interest in it than with a new Switch...

Well, as far as they are concerned, there is no news of a delay, only rumours. And because they internally delay a console launch (likely for software reasons) and the fact their os is not like steam they should go third party? Or quit gaming altogether since it's a software problem causing the delay?
I think they did very well setting up a consistent communication channel with their audience through directs. The problem is we expect that to be a two-way communication, and for them to answer when we have questions (based on people leaking internal information). Yet they only communicate when they feel like it and on their own terms. It's not really fair to force our wishes on the Direct system they decided to set up, this is not a conversation but a monologue unfortunately

Edit- I know it's mostly hyperbole out of disappointment from this possible delay, but to say a company that delays a console release by a few months and does not acknowledge that and makes up for it the very next weekend day has no business being a first party is a bit harsh when they have a top 3 all time selling console out with record sales for all their major franchises

I know we all love the new copy pasta, but posting someone else's copy pasta defeats the point.

Oh... it's a Partner Direct? pretends to be shocked
I just got a reaction from Beauty in France :

Honestly if we get FE4 remake I’ll already be happy in term of first parties, specially because my backlog is already huge.

But at this point I hope Nintendo will held a general soon…

I don't think that's fair. I want a general too, but if they designed and edited a partner showcase and maybe even started tweeting out first party stuff already, and then a decision made by a completely different part of the company randomly leaks out from third party studios around the world, they shouldn't have to completely revise a Direct in under a week. That's unreasonable.

So having Skyward Sword be 60fps spoiled me, do you guys think we can see (if they get announced) Twilight Princess/ Wind waker at 60fps potentially as well?

The event next week will just be a handful of third party games. Nintendo will obviously release first party titles in Q2 and Q3, but it’s not clear if they’re going to do a Direct or just like social media announcements.

I have my qualms with NSO as a service but I'll take a snappy, fast OS like the Switch over a bloated webapp like Steam any day.

Nintendo should do a “Legacy Direct” with announcements of ports, remasters, and remakes as well as NSO news to fill out the year x) realistically, I don’t think it’s very likely we’ll get WW, TP, MP2, and MP3 all in the same year on top of LM2, Mario vs. DK, and TTYD. Maybe if the Zeldas and Primes are each bundled with minimum effort like Mario 3D All Stars, but all as separate releases is hard to see unfortunately.

Glad to see that there's a thread this year despite the shift of focus towards Switch 2.

I think that the transition will be delicate and result in some odd outcomes, one among them being no Direct until March or April. Currently I'm leaning towards the week before or after Peach, but there's something appealing about early April, too. I think that Direct will outline spring and summer, including release dates for Paper Mario (June?) and Luigi's Mansion 2 (July?). The new system coming early in FY 2026 will be acknowledged officially in the May investor briefing. There will be some sort of presentation in June if publishers are expecting one, but a Partner Showcase would suffice. A Direct later in the summer, or even in September, will handle the remaining holiday software; Pokémon will have been announced separately. Then in January 2025 the next system is revealed, it is detailed in early March, and launched in late April.
WHAT THE FUCK AM I GOD

You'll be glad(?) to know that, despite everything, I'm still looking forward to the next Partner Showcase. C'mon, fate, throw us a bone!
WHAT THE FUCK AM I GOD
YOU HAVE GROWN TOO POWERFUL. YOU MUST BE STOPPED.

(also, hey, I Yeah'd that post before it was cool true)

So uhhh how is everyone doing ?

Just had a nice bicycle tour, the weather was ok-ish. Guess I'm going to play some games that I wanted to play for a while now. Maybe on my PC through vr or something. Kinda cool.

Lately I'm thinking about Trials in the sky 2, 1 was a delight to play through.

Switch 2 can wait.
