StarTopic Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet |ST| Who You Callin' Paldea, Friend?

We pretty much could have got here with the earlier leaks, but nice to see some confirmation.

Also shows at least one previously transfer-only Pokemon will be obtainable in the wild somehow (Kleavor).

That still leaves Wyrdeer weirdly in the lurch.

Solid Unova representation considering we now know it is in Unova, but I thought there would be more.

Are the default camera distance options new? I could have also sworn there were only two modes before, what's now medium and far. It defaulted to the close-up one for me.
I believe these are new, yes. They added a couple other miscellaneous settings like being able to lock the minimap pointing North as well.

Played a bit more this morning since I woke up early. I'm enjoying it a lot, but I was devastated to find out Cramorant is a Scarlet exclusive.

I caught one in a 4* Tera Raid, so keep an eye out for those. Or I can trade you this one. As a big fan myself, I couldn't cheat on my Galar original anyway.

I've got plenty in HOME and I also own Scarlet so I'll live lol, but thanks for the offer.

I'll keep an eye on raids then since I sort of want one with my OT.

Wow, I would've never known if you hadn't pointed it out, so thanks for the heads up. I can never read a rotating minimap properly. It was almost useless to me before.

I had to check, and unfortunately we still can't retake the player icon picture. It's so odd they won't let us use the selfie camera for that. Reminds me of PLA, where they had a whole photo set in the game and we still couldn't change our trainer picture.

Finished the main storyline of the Teal Mask this morning, it was fun. Reminded me more of the Crown Tundra story than the Isle of Armor story, which is a good thing.

I really enjoyed the Loyal Three, they were fun in their cutscenes. Ogerpon is also adorable.

Using Carmine and Kieran to have the story continue into Indigo Disk is smart, and they're also fun characters. I love Carmine's angry animation.

Next up is to go find Perrin, then catch the remaining Pokemon. It's nice that the core storyline doesn't touch one side of the map, gives me more to do after beating it.

I still need to track down Billy and O'Hare in Paldea as well.

Finished up the main path of the Teal Mask, now only gotta clean the scattered bits of interest around the island. The story worked for me, because these are so clearly kids and their little dramas work for where the characters are in their development. It fits Pokemon better than world-ending, god-slaying JRPG fare, too, as fun as the increasingly over-the-top final boss battles of recent entries have been.

I dare say Kieran is among the best interpretations of the rival archetype. Tries hard, upset with losing, confronts his shortcomings, but with more learning ahead of him, and it's all believable and a struggle you recognize from children his age.

Something is weird. A couple of times now, I've found a wild pokemon and I can't start a battle with it. I run into but nothing. I try to throw a pokeball at it but that just deploys my main.

It's now happening with wild koraidon. Am I missing something or is this a glitch?

Edit: Nvm. Turns out I had to press A to start the battle. Thanks, UX.

Fuck…I’ve been putting off the Mewtwo raid and today is the last day for it, and apparently I can’t even attempt it until I do some post-game stuff that I haven’t finished yet, plus I haven’t even started training the Mew, so I guess I’m outta luck here… =/

Tons of interesting information has been datamined about the Indigo Disk by Mattyoukhana on Twitter:

I'll transcribe some of this stuff, but also link the threads below.

SV 2.0.1 added in even more stubbed text entries for Indigo Disk than previously mentioned. Here are a handful of new findings:
• The BB League (4 Kings) are Fairy, Fire, Steel, and Dragon specialists
• 9 camera emotes
• 23 Battle BGMs
• 30 League Club BGMs
• 1 Ribbon

New dressup items:
• 8 outfits
• 4 eyewear
• 5 gloves
• 4 bags
• 5 footwear
• 10 headwear
• 2 legwear
• 7 phone cases
• 6 hairstyles
• 6 new clothing colors
In addition to:
• 15 new met locations
• New types of Food Power that apply to all 18 types simultaneously

Tips (tutorial) images for the following internal names:
• HAGANE
• RIDEFLY
• TTYPE
• SCAN
• BBPOINT
• BBMISSION (0-4)
• CLUB
• ITEMMACHINE
• CLUBPC
• SMACHINE
• PHOTOMODE
As well as:
• 4 new restaurant food items
• 10 rooms within Blueberry Academy campus

Three new battle states:
• TyoudenkiHou
• KimaguLaser
• terasushell (presumably "Tera Shell")
New trainers:
• TARO, KAKITUBATA, NERINE, AKAMATU, SHIANO, GFATHER, GGMOTHER
• 60 generic
• 3 Dragon challenge
• 5 Fairy challenge
• 3 Fire challenge
• side_villager01/02

And, last but not least, a new type has been added!
This new type is index 20; index 19 is a magic value that the game uses to force using original Tera Type instead of override Tera Type.
This is presumably used for the 19th Tera Type, and is not actual type for Pokémon.

Found a story line quest in Indigo Disk that involves a few characters:
• "friend" (Arven)
• "rival" (Nemona)
• "botan" (Penny)
• "mama"
• "brother" (Kieran)
• "sister" (Carmine)
• "gfather"
• "gmother"
The actual plot or any relevance to the main DLC story is unknown.

All BB League clubhouse guests:
• All Gym Leaders
• Arven
• Penny
• Nemona
• Dendra
• Tyme
• Raifort
• Miriam
• Saguaro
• Jacq
• Salvatore
• Clavell
• Geeta
• Paldea Elite Four
• BB Elite Four
• Carmine
• Kieran
• SHIANO (?)

The SV 2.0.1 patch also includes text entries for text you'll see during battles. This includes
:• BB League
• Kieran
• kodaikame
• zombie_man
• zombie_old
• zombies
• Nemona
• Arven
• Penny
• dokutaro
kodaikame and dokutaro are notable, and what could zombies be?

Some stubbed text entries found in SV 2.0.1 hint at some interactable objects in the overworld, featured in the following locations:
• Your dorm at Blueberry Academy
• Carmine's/Kieran's dorms
• The various League Club designs
• zerocave_bg_01/02/03 - new rooms in Area Zero

There's even more on his Twitter, but those are some of the notable ones.

Nothing enormous, but some fun stuff in there.

I'm very happy to see Nemona, Arven, and Penny return in some capacity, though it was somewhat expected. You can also trade with all of the listed club visitors according to another tweet, so that could be very fun. I do like collecting ingame trades, though hopefully some of these aren't just in default Pokeballs, need my fashion.

Dokutaro has also been speculated to be the leader Pokemon of the Loyal Three, and there are some images going around of what it may look like based on some things in the Teal Mask. Looks weird, but also like the Toxic Chain.

EDIT:

Also the next Tera Raid event was announced: Slither Wing and Iron Moth. Serebii has a link, I wish there was some sort of official post somewhere, but I think it's all ingame, which is more important anyway.

I'm happy to see they're finally continuing the Paradox Tera events after the disastrous delays from Great Tusk and Iron Treads.

I bet the Sinnoh Starters will be the next set of 7 star raids, maybe they will also sprinkle in Hisuian form starters, or even just Hisuian Pokemon.

I could also see them doing Blood Moon Ursaluna.

And don't forget the first Outbreak event is at the end of the month with Clefairy.

Bring on all the Violet paradoxes. The only ones other than Miraidon that my Scarlet Pokedex is missing.

Having fun with the DLC, just like I did with the main game. Yes, it's a technical mess, but catching Pokemon has never been more fun.

Currently rolling with...

Krookodile
Alolan Ninetales
Vikavolt
Gyrados (Shiny)
Dipplin
Amarouge

At least it got love in Sword and Shield, but yeah, I'll miss my little pickup buddies.

I used to have a Female Linoone with Attract, Belly Drum, Extreme Speed, and Slash holding King's Rock. That baby was a beast

Looks like someone found out why the glitch with the ogre clan trainers happens. Apparently Scarlet and Violet only has memory for 300 generic trainers defeated so it can't register trainers beaten beyond 300. Hopefully this can be patched out because it sounds like something that can't be patched if it has to do with memory limits.

I finished up everything in the DLC outside of getting a shiny Munchlax from the new minigame yesterday. It basically has all the same pros and cons of the base game, but I had a great time with it overall. Hopefully Indigo Disk isn't too far off.

I also tried using herba mysticas to shiny hunt for the first time yesterday. The recipe I made gave me sparkling power for poison types, and I ended up catching...a shiny Heracross and Ducklett instead. Not what I was expecting, but I'll take it lol

Teal Mask is pretty solid DLC content. It won’t convert you if SV wasn’t your thing, but it has a great atmosphere, cool new Pokémon, and actually has quite a bit of challenge to it. I wonder if Indigo Disk will be even harder with its focus on battles.

I still haven't actually used any Herba Mystica, but I have a huge stockpile from raiding a lot when the game first released.

One thing I was hoping for in the DLC was more food recipes, in particular I'd love to have a Title Power recipe that didn't require Herba or maybe only needed one, as I'm more interested in Marks than Shinies broadly, but it feels like a waste to spend Herba Mystica on Marks instead of shinies, as shinies are much more rare. For Mark hunting you want to catch a ton of Pokemon, but for Shiny hunting you want to keep resetting the spawns until you see a shiny, so they're at odds with each other in terms of efficient hunting.

Still not finished with it, as i fell into the 6* raids rabbithole and the sweet lure scent that are 5 perfect IV Pokemon, but i definitely like this DLC way more than Isle of Armor.

It's ... really just a good game addition.

The island is dense enough, there's a few things to do, i like the new characters, especially Carmine who really grew on me. She kinda reminds me of my eldest daughter who also very often acts up like she's tough and doesn't care, but she would do everything for and defend her two younger siblings like a lioness.

Really makes me look forward to the second DLC part.

I hope they can match the quality in the next mainline game without having to wait for DLC. ^^

Serebii is reporting that they are planning to fix this in a patch in October, so good news for those affected.

EDIT:

Actually managed to find the source after a bit more digging:

Grass Tera Hisuian Decidueye is our next 7* raid starting October 6th.

My guess is that they will alternate between Hisuian and Sinnoh Starters for the next few, but maybe they sprinkle in other Hisuian Pokemon as well.

I saw the Decidueye news and the Kitakami Prologue announcement on Serebii. Couldn't remember the last time reading about an online tournament on there. So I checked. There have online been four tournaments in Scarlet/Violet. Those used to be a monthly even in Sword/Shield and Sun/Moon.

Moreover, three of the four tied into VGC qualifiers for Japanese players. Only one was a fun teambuilding competition. Kinda sad. But personally I'm also kinda relieved I didn't miss out on anything big by sitting this generation out because tera-farming is just too much.

They did improve tera shard acquisition with the dlc at least. It's still not great, but the tera charm at least halves the grind, if not more. I was getting an additional 10 shards per raid from the Paradox raids over the weekend

After the Indigo DIsk launches, there's going to be no real point in having the Sinnoh starters though. The Hisuian Pokemon beyond the starters and other regional form Pokemon will probably fill out the next year of Tera Raids. I could see some Paradox events filling in during reruns. I'd guess the next Pokemon Day event would be one of the Mythicals that are transfer only for a while, with my best guess being Meloetta to tie in with the next game announcements

My Shiny Magcargo is finally free from Home purgatory, I didn't buy BDSP so he has been stuck in my Switch for years. HE IS OUT.

Part 2 is releasing December 14th. No trailer right now, just the date, which is unusual.

To me that means it's either coming in real hot, or they are holding back to surprise players. Could be both.

I prefer it this way. It's hard enough to avoid getting spoiled on everything with leaks as it is.
Latley with movies and games, I've been on team "Give me one good trailer so I know what to expect, and I'm good until launch"

good thing about DLC is you can't really leak it

It's been happening! Khu has leaked some story details and desciptions of new stuff.
Like in the Teal Mask I got spoiled that
The Loyal 3 were bad guys
and some other stuff before it came out, and he's been doing more for Part 2

after all the hullabaloo over the wording of "winter 2023" it is coming out before the winter season begins lmao.

Only half joking but it is kind of funny.

Hey, ya’ll. Am I the only one with a random desire to replay Pokemon Violet from zero? Like a new safe file. Problem is, I’d pick Quaxly again 🙃
I do this with Pokemon games all the time. I've erased save files with shiny Pokemon just to start fresh because I love fresh starts so much.

I was more referring to people just dumping the whole thing a week or two ahead of the date, with dlc you can't really do that. Most that happens is home datamines

Hasn't that still happened even with DLC? Since they need to update Home for it
Well I guess not like story stuff, but new mons and mechanical things

This is excellent timing for me, I am going to Japan like 11 days after the DLC drops and will be visiting the Tokyo Pokemon Center, so if they have any DLC merch I'll be able to get some!

Since Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's DLC package doesn't come with the whole thing (Part 2 gets added only next month), how would sharing of the cartridge work? Would it be like:
1) The second part only work on the first Switch like those games with DLC codes work (Sonic Origins Plus is an example), or
2) A second-hand game or the first game on a second Switch device be able to enjoy the full game with just the cartridge (after the first Switch downloaded the game)?

I am considering getting it but I am hoping for some answer on how sharing works before I pull the trigger.

Thank you for reading.

As far as I'm aware, it includes the license on the card for the second part for anyone using it, but it'll still have to be downloaded with a patch when the second DLC releases.

Well I finally picked up the DLC, it's pretty enjoyable in handheld mode while docked the performance issues are getting distracting. I found a shiny Sewaddle in the first hour and that spurred me on to make a whole new team for the DLC! I've got Magcargo, Rimbombee, Mienshao, my shiny and Mightyena so far. I also got this Chimecho that destroyed the camera by making my hair expand.

I've only had Bloodmoon Ursaluna for 15 minutes, but I would die for him (picture of him getting lost in the sauce included)
