I Yeah!ed this mostly because this is the longest post I have ever seen and Iβm just really impressedSome people like a long draw of beer at the end of a work week. I like a good quote-a-palooza!
That's a super impressive speed run, kudos! NSMB Wii is really under-appreciated. Incidentally, I really enjoyed the speed run challenges in NSMBU. I hope the next mainline 2D Mario has something like that included. It was cool to see medal challenges like that in the main campaign in SMM 3DS too.
Hey I'm from WNY originally! With the pandemic and everything I haven't been back in ages though. Small Famiworld. I was just thinking recently about that strange pizza style in Schenectady where they put the sauce on top of the cheese....
Glad you dug it! I really think every one of the PM games is somewhere between really good and amazing, especially taken on its own merits. Even Sticker Star. For one thing the jazzy OST of that one is supremely awesome. I bet outta resident TOK OST superfan @Raccoon would dig it.
I'm really hoping we see more Pushmo one day.
Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction on the BC sale. I just got to play a game today (OoT) for the first time since the end of November, so the XSS I got for X-Mas is still in the box. I'm excited to try out Sonic Generations on it as my first real 3D Sonic. I feel like I've been planning that for a year plus now though, lol. I definitely plan to make Tunic my first new release XSS game. Cute mascot games forever!
You gave me some serious nostalgia reading this post. When I used to see the SML 2 box at KB or wherever the box art would fill my imagination to the brim. Especially the boxing shark. And then when I actually got it and discovered it had legit save files, it felt like an evolutionary leap over SML. The SML series was really filled with unbridled creativity. The music for those Zones started playing in my head as you mentioned each one. I'd love to see a return to the bizarre world theming of SML.
I did my Captain Toad replay just to get all the gems in ... I can't believe it's been nearly two years. April 2020. At the end of that I discovered I needed to do the checklist item for each level to unlock the remaining secret levels. So I definitely plan to go back and do that at some point. I hope we get a sequel built from the ground up for Switch. It was a nice touch finding El Capitan Todd in Odyssey.
Oh phewwww I was so worried it crashed and burned hard and nobody got it
That sucks, I'm sorry to hear it. Thanks for the translator tip, too. Is it possible to buy eShop cred in the currency the 3DS is linked to and manually add it to that account?
This is so wild to me. These pictures don't usually get me but like ... I have such vivid memories of getting the 3DS in late 2011. It's one of the things that seriously pulled me back into gaming after 5 years or so of much less interest. My wife was really into some of the DS games so I got her a 3DS with 3DL packed in. I took her on an impromptu day trip from Vermont (where we were living at the time) to NYC. We had to get up super early and we got back sooo late and it was snowing and the roads were poorly paved and this 711 coffee was just barely fueling me.
But it was so nice to go to NYC and I think this is the last time we went there which means somehow it's been a decade since we've been. We went all over the places we used to frequent when we lived in Queens, got some amazing Neapolitan pizza in the East Village, went to Times Square and Chinatown. Got this legit Oaxacan food with cactus leaf tostadas. It seems like just a few days ago. At the end of the trip I got the wrapped 3DS out of the trunk and gave it to my wife. We still have it now and the R button is a bit wonky but it's still working otherwise and it's seen so many hours of fun and joy. I'm really glad I caught that boat back the world of gaming when I did.
I can definitely see the appeal of the longer length but for the add-on never worked as well as the incorporated version. Like I really struggled with it in Wii Fit and Skyward until getting the built-in one. So I'm glad they made both versions.
That is legitimately super fascinating to me. Please keep the weeb history lessons coming. Did y'all know that in early 1600s Korea, the king liked the japchae his cook made so much that he promoted the duse to secretary of treasury? If you eat the dish you can see why though. It's a delectable tangle of stir-fried sweet potato starch noodles.
One easy way to add a pic you took on your phone is to go to http://abload.de, upload it for free, copy the direct link, and paste it in IMG tags here. You could also click the image icon at the top of the post editor and paste the link in there and hit enter. It's the icon right next to the hyperlink one (chain icon).
Those are so cool. I really like the Timber one. I'd be so jazzed to see that character make a comeback. That DKR 2 rumor for Wii U had me hoping for a long time.
The Strange Development of Diddy Kong Racing 2
The following information is based on my insider knowledge regarding the development behind Diddy Kong Racing 2. For the longest time, Nintendo has been trying to figure out how to create a sequel β¦kevincallahangames.wordpress.com
I don't know that it was ever properly debunked. It had the ring of truth to it for me.
I feel you Plum. I know you've mentioned a few times your struggles with being productive with your time off. Try not to put pressure on yourself, if you feel like the day's getting away from you just schedule in some of the things you want to be sure to do for fun.
TOK is so damn good. You're in for a treat!
Great timing! That is a really cool statue. I've see it before but I didn't know it glowed in the dark. It's so crazy to think it's been 8 years since the 3DS version. 8 years?? Like...how can that be.
That is so rad. I love learning behind the scenes stuff like this. Please keep 'em coming.
Playing NES Remix really have me an appreciation for that one. Plus, cute penguins!
Hey I think it's really rad that you can just be yourself and play your Switch during your treatment. A lot of people are so concerned about what people think that they won't game in public at all. Heck I know people at my job think games are infantile so I try not to talk about or play games there and reading your post has me reevaluating myself there.
Lost was such a crazy cultural phenomenon. I got so sucked into the early 00's internet fandom, especially the ARGs where it was tough to tell for sure what was made by ABC and what was fanmade. It really made the wait for the next episode all the more engrossing.
Man this is a freaking amazing collection. Kudos. Are there any non-NA ones you're hoping to find for a good price? I have a smaller collection, mostly NA, but the one I regret not getting before it shot up in price is Qbby.
so many quotes yeahI Yeah!ed this mostly because this is the longest post I have ever seen and Iβm just really impressed
same fucking boatGotta admit Iβd love to play Alyx. Not because I care about VR, but because Iβm starving for more Half Life/Portal content. Hoping to borrow a VR headset one day.
the tech industry grew too powerfulI googled βOculus Quest 2β (I guess βMeta Quest 2β now fuck you Facebook) so I could pore over the details a bit for more precise ranting
and the first two βlatest key news itemsβ or whatever were 1. update glitch makes shit blurry for users and 2. how to watch vr porn
which also made me think about how the internet made articles trash
and how VRβs trying to do that to reality

my sentiments exactlythe tech industry grew too powerful
instead of providing solutions it began creating problems to solve, or worse just creating problems and selling them as solutions
I really do resent these companies and the culture they've created
NFTs, meta shit, vr, and all this other shit is just the unfunny self-parody of the downward slope into a bottomless pit that tech has taken us on
With all due respect, have you ever actually tried VR? It works a lot better in practice.nintendo is like the anti-vr
nintendo wants you to play mario kart with the person next to you on your commute, vr wants you to only look at real life to eat shower and maybe shit
neither of those are especially realistic but one of them sounds a lot more fun
Yeah, this:you ever read something that makes your skull feel like itβs being flung out of your face
behold, the future of videogames
counterpoint, I stand against it in principleWith all due respect, have you ever actually tried VR? It works a lot better in practice.
Maybe it's just my own experiences, but VR gave me my favorite gaming memories. I don't exactly have the greatest social skills, I'm extremely shy and self conscious about everything I say and do. But I didn't have to worry about that in there. I could talk to groups of people I don't know and joke and laugh and be happy. It helped me get through COVID. Not to mention the whole other reality aspect, so I could leave home without leaving home.
Sometimes not being in reality is a good thing. Especially given the way things are going in the real world.

also my severe astigmatism means I can't
but more importantly it's abysmal and a departure from humanity
oh fuckOh yeah? Explain this!
noOh, that makes a bit more sense. VR as a whole needs to eliminate a lot of the barriers still (like motion sickness as well). Is there anything that would make you come around to it?
Well then I'm all out of arguments loloh fuck
no
I've been wanting to try Gravity Rush, but man are they expensive on PS4....Actually now that I think about it, you know what would be crazy good in VR? Gravity Rush.
(also super likely to make you motion sick and get disoriented, but still amazing!)

They're really fun, unique games! And is that the physical price? I remember I bought GR2 on a winter sale (digital) a couple years ago for like literally $6, it was ridiculousI've been wanting to try Gravity Rush, but man are they expensive on PS4....

I think what we all really need is to snuggle and kiss each other on the rouch.
You might be Team February, but in here (points to my heart with a massively concerning irregular heartbeat) you're Team January.
This has incredibly low chances of happening, but I really want to see Michael Jackson's Moonwalker added to Genesis NSO lol.
SECONDED. I love 3D Blast, I can't believe I forgot it. I keep thinking "we don't need Sonic games on NSO because we have Sonic Origins coming" but 3D Blast won't be a part of it. So NSO is perfect.
And hells yes to the music. People put the Saturn version over the Genesis version because "CD quality sound" but Senoue's work on the Genesis version is superior and I will die on this hill.
Yes! That's awesome. Good movies are for everyone. Anyone who wants to tell you otherwise is tripping. Moana is great too BTW if you're looking for more LMM animated musical goodness.Just watched Encanto! Figured that, fuck it, literally nobody would care if I watch this film despite it not being 'for me.' It was great! Visually fucking stunning on my OLED, and a nice light-hearted film to boot.
Maybe I'll actually be able to chill on my break next week if this is any indication

I actually love Team January just for the meme-ness of it. And I love optimism. The only reason I threw my hat in for February is because I figured January would be all about Arceus and they'd restart the hype cycle after that game had released. I had noooo idea it would turn into a culture war. Raccoon accusing us of being boring and un-creative even though I designed the boxart for Stinker Horseperson was sort of a blow to my ego, so I'm happy to hear SOMEone considers me TJ at heart. You might be Team February, but in here (points to my heart with a massively concerning irregular heartbeat) you're Team January.

Yep. That's exactly what it is.So what is 3D Blast exactly? Is it like...an isometric Sonic? I don't think I've ever seen it in action.
Is it weird that I'm actually intrigued about the possibility of Origins using the original, pre-Michael tracks? I've heard them in generic midi (S&K Collection for PC 1997 baybee) but having them redone in Genesis synth would be kinda awesome, actually. Just think: new Genesis music. Gives me shivers.Maybe if they get the S3&K original music rights disentangled for Origins. But even then I agree it's unlikely.
It is! It was not very well received at the time because it's not really a fast Sonic game, but it's not a bad game at all. The graphics are neat for the time but was admittedly chasing the DKC/SMRPG fad and the levels are the typical tropey themes (grass level! ice level! lava level!) but something about the execution, the feel of the environments, and the goddamn music, elevates it a bit. It's one of those "greater than the sum of its parts" situations. Or maybe I'm entirely too nostalgic. That's possible. But regardless, the music slaps. That's definitely not my nostalgia speaking, it are fact.So what is 3D Blast exactly? Is it like...an isometric Sonic? I don't think I've ever seen it in action.
see now I very much donβt agree with that take on itYou ever see Wall-E? That's where we are going
Now I'm gonna picture Sus sleeping while suspended above a basketball hoop in perpetual bullet time like Foamy the Squirrel in that one flash animation from damn well near two decades ago.and I am much too tired right now to get into why but if I remember and feel like it I will complete this slam dunk tomorrow instead of just hanging in the air motionless
It's a very long shot but I would really love to see Rocket Knight Adventures on it. I just want to play that game again. We now know what February's N64 game is. What Genesis/Megadrive games are you all hoping we get in February?

Oh shit, I haven't downloaded Eastward onto my OLED Switch to see how it looks (mainly because I already beat it). I should do that. Now that I have the OLED, I think I'll stick to AAA's and non Switch games for when I get a Steam Deck. Indies just look amazing on the OLED. If you haven't played Eastward, give it a try. It's a good game
Ya know what, fuck it. It's Sonic 3D Blast OST appreciation time.
Damn you really said fuck it it's Sonic 3D Blast OST appreciation time
