I find it quite peculiar that the internet is filled with assertions such as "the next direct is clearly imminent," accompanied by historical screenshots

Although I am deeply passionate about direct announcements, I recognize that Nintendo's current situation, particularly with regards to their successor, places us in a unique position. Therefore, if the direct is not released as anticipated, I am prepared to accept that and move on only because of where we are at

All in all, it's just an odd situation.

He confirmed having information on it last year. So, I do wonder if he heard it’s going to be shown along with Hi Fi Rush in a direct. Leading to it being a General on the account of MP4

Day of Reckoning is a WWE game on GameCube released on January 13, 2005, obviously Nate is hinting at a Direct where they announce GameCube games on NSO coming 13 days and 2005 minutes after the end of January, which is February 14 at 9:25am EST.

It's also a 2016 movie of the same name starring Jackson Hurst, best known for his role in The Mist by Stephen King. Stephen King famously wrote the book Misery, which is what Nate likely experiences every time someone makes outlandish leaps in logic for things he has said relating to Nintendo events - and also, it was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film by Rob Reiner. The name Rob has three characters, and Reiner has six, meaning Nate is obviously hinting at a Switch 2 announcement on Wednesday, March 6th.

Y’all Metroid Prime 4 isn’t being shown before the Switch 2. I can feel it in my bones.

I guess a Mini would make sense in that case. You can still pack a fair few games into a mini. I was on team #NoDirect until I gave into Lukas’ power, so I’d be cool with being half right.

By the way, Lukas and Nate actually used to be one person. But the knowledge of Nintendo’s future plans made them too powerful, so they had to be split in two. One has knowledge of the format, the other the date. Never the twain shall meet.

Edit: where’s this Zelda talk coming from? Anything substantial?

Oh, I agree with you. I think it will be on Switch 1 no matter what, but if it's going to be on Switch 2, I think they'll wait to show it off for that platform to give it the most impressive spotlight they can. I was saying that if we don't see it in the last Switch-exclusive Direct, then we won't see it until they are ready to show Switch 2.

That said, I'm holding tight to my belief that it's a Switch 1 exclusive and will be playable on Switch 2 in the same way most Switch 1 games will be - backwards compatibility.
Oh okay haha. I think I misunderstood you then haha. This is definitely the swan song direct for the switch 1. I'm sure a future direct will have Switch 1 games but Switch 2 is going to be the focus real soon.
It won't be, and that's a good thing.
As a Xbox owner I agree. I'll play most xbox games on gamepass anyways. If they want to put their stuff on other consoles, good. More money for the devs too. I think there comes a point when an exclusive game(for most) becomes pointless and the value is better to put it elsewhere. If a game's sales are very front-loaded and a year later is barely selling then putting it elsewhere will reinvigorate mindshare and make more money. It happens all the time. Just look at Sony putting their games on PC now.

Since we're speculating about the Direct's format, if it's a General that makes it a round, square or triangular Direct? It's important to know

I don't get why people act like Prime 4 can't be in a mini, usually the minis are just a representative of length, not content.
Imo, Prime 4 is either being announced in a Direct or the Switch 2 trailer if it's coming this year/early next year at all. It could be in a mini, but that remains to be seen if Nate heard it was a mini or not. Just because he knows the format, doesn't mean the format is that strange compared to normal.

Gimme a hell yeah, I want both Day of Reckoning games, HD remastered and Michael Cole commentary added (games don't have commentary). Also a sequel with same exact roster, complete with Evolution stable with their Ferraris!

the person tweeting nate seems like a big poopy

needs a Hi-Five rushing to their face

Alright guys and gals, I'm going to give you the Nintendo Direct Mega. So no more of that Mini talk around here. Save that for the Mario vs Donkey Kong thread.

... That's just a Nintendo Switch Presentation...

Speaking of, do... do any of y'all expect that we're going to get one this year? That'd be cool, but probably a bit more unneeded than last time. Nintendo isn't as do or die and already have third-party trust. Literally what could they do that would warrant one?

Honestly I expect the Switch 2's equivalent of the Switch Presentation to be a Direct or Direct style showcase.

Maybe simply branded "Nintendo Switch 2 Direct"? Announced immediately after the reveal trailer?

I am an agent of chaos. I only exist to feed on misery.
You'd do well to check out the game underway in this month's General Discussion ST 👀

where can I find the un-yeah reaction

I need an anti-yeah exclusively for this post

only this one, not a forum-wide feature

I'm thinking they do an info blow-out for Switch 2 in lieu of a June direct, but I'm not expecting it to be a 1:1 match for the Switch Presentation they did pre-launch. Like, I don't really think they gain anything from doing a live stage event this time around versus doing it in a more controlled pre-taped environment

99% we're getting a Switch 2 direct or video, but a Switch 2 Presentation would be nice. Idk, i could go either way on this and be a happy man.

I’m starting to feel it’s a Mini as well. Don’t be discouraged, there’s a lot that can happen in a Mini, and I think that actually makes sense for a Switch 2 reveal by the end of March. Do a Direct Mini now, and save the big stuff for March’s Switch 2 trailer.

I think a Direct Mini would show:
-open on TTYD trailer w/ release date showing some extra content
-Splatoon 3 Side Order more details
-Princess Peach trailer
-Mario vs DK trailer
-one surprise shadowdropped eShop title
-close on FE4 remake

Personally, this would still be a banger Direct for me and would be a great final Direct for the Switch 1 era.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people on here and on other sites saying that they would rather not have a February Direct if it means getting Switch 2 news earlier, and I get that because it’s been such a long wait but boy howdy do I feel the exact opposite lol. Like I’m sure the next system will be cool and I will almost certainly try to buy it on release but right now I just want some comfort food, and that’s what the usual general Directs are for me. I’m still perfectly content with my current system and I just want to see some fun stuff get announced for it, at least one more time (mostly the FE4 remake I’m dying to see it)

It's more I know the exact format of the Direct and what to expect from it, but I don't know the day of presentation. And I was answering a question. This same thread lost their collective minds when Grubb said he expected a Direct in February.
Appreciate the clarification. I interpreted the Tweet as just "yes there is a Direct coming but that's it," which is really not anything of substance. Hope we hear more about it soon.

Good to see we're split on this topic because I'm leaning pro-Switch 2 Trailer first. I think it's just that I want the wait to be over and it's so much easier to wait a bit longer for a direct than a Switch 2. We're already set until Late-March, so I can wait to see release dates for other games.

Anyway, hopefully this debate doesn't turn to bloodshed because I'm fully aware that it could.

I will continue to foolishly hold out hope for GX HD being more than a Hagi port and no one can stop me. I know that old rumor of Next Level Games doing it is like 100% fake, but man them redoing all the pilot movies would be really neat.
I'd like for it to get online but it'd definitely need a rebalance for that to happen, the power gap between Fat Shark/Black Bull and Super Piranha/Silver Rat is one of the biggest I've ever seen in a racing game.

I think a mini makes sense and isn't a bad sign.

They probably want to get all of the Switch stuff out of the way but don't feel they have enough for a full-blown presentation. I think the fact that they disabled likes and dislikes on the September Direct when they didn't do that for previous Directs shows that they may anticipate backlash from the lack of heavy-hitting announcements. They likely want to just get one more Switch presentation out there without too much fanfare before the following month announces the new platform.

Now, if this is a Mini Partner Showcase, then there are going to be some concerns.

Same for me. I don't care about a new hardware announcement right now because all of that stuff is going to be months and months out. At least some of the Direct stuff will likely be short-term. I care more about what I might be playing for the next six months than information about a console that won't be out until after then, you know?

Nate says he knows the format but not the date but isn't telling us yet

this thread: going absolutely batshit insane with conspiracy theories
