I've always loved this reference (It's from Robin's support with Sumia in Awakening for those who don't know), because the definition of ribald is "referring to sexual matters in an amusingly coarse or irreverent way".

So Sumia is just casually telling Robin she's reading some kind of vulgar, erotic novel based on Genealogy.
....when did she get her hands on one of the officially licensed manga adaptations? /s

I hope there's a bunch of bombastic announcements of new games coming to Switch up until the end of 2024, so it can cast big time skepticism about Nintendo releasing a new hardware this year.

Let the chaos reign >:3

Retooling the game to work with standard controls is not what I'd call "change almost nothing". It may not be a very exciting change for those of us who enjoyed the motion controls of the original, but it still took time/effort to do.
This, AND it ran at 60fps. Which is a lot of effort in itself on the switch for a Zelda game too.

I think the lack of graphical upgrades is part of what makes it look lackluster in comparison. That and the $60 price tag.

Weekly Questions Week 4
We are entering our 4th week of Direct Speculation now! Last week was fairly chill and I expect the next one to be as well as Nintendo is putting out Another Code and we are gearing up for a jam packed (normal calendar) week of releases headlined by Under Night In-Birth II and Apollo Justice on Switch alongside Like A Dragon 8, Tekken 8, and more on other platforms. So while big news seems unlikely for a bit, we are inching ever closer to our generally expected Direct date and with it the chance for rumors and signs will slowly begin to rise! As for thread business, we do have a new poll that opened up this week asking all of us what will be the final one more thing the Direct ends on. Make your voice heard by voting if you haven't! It may just influence the direction of the next poll 👀. Let's roll into our next weekly question then!

Week 4: What other IP revival remakes like Another Code would you like to see and why? Can be first or third party.

For my own answer, I think I'm going to pick Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime which was a DS game sort of like 2D Zelda, but with these super rad giant tank battles where you'd launch a bunch of junk (and sometimes yourself!) out of your tank's cannon to disable and sabotage the enemy. This would be a tough game to update faithfully given it did take advantage of the two screens of the DS especially in the tank battles, but I'd love to see it brought back with some form of online play. Curious what y'all would like to see Fami!

What graphical updates needed to be done though? The water color artstyle is already done very well. Which they definitely did update the graphics. Look at a side by side comparison. The 60fps itself makes it look better too

I'm going full delusion with this, Xenogears 2D-HD remake with Team Asano and Monolith Soft. First disc fully kept in tact but a lot of redoing in the second disc to bring it up to quality with the first disc. Furthermore a confirmation of this game being canon to both Xenoblade and Xenosaga, falling in line with Xenoblade Future Redeemed's ending. Would be excellent.

Other great IP revival remakes:

-Startropics
-F-Zero GX remastered
-Kid Icarus Uprising remaster for the love of god oh plase
-Chibi Robo

Looking at the Another Code thread most people's reaction to that announcement was "does that mean Hotel Dusk has a chance??", so I'm going with that.

A remake of both Kyle Hyde games in the style of Another Code Recollection + maybe a little extra bonus story that does give us some closure on his older partner would be brillant.
Of course a third game would be da bomb but I'm not getting my hopes up THAT much.

I just recently played through the games in 2022 and I loved them.

Ooh those are some great picks! I'm planning to finally play Xenogears probably this year, but I'd be down to see an extensive remake given what I know about it. I just played both Startropics two years back and I think if they made those games a bit kinder people would be interested for sure. My favorite of your picks is definitely F-Zero GX. F-Zero 99 scratches a very different itch than that game. I just played a few races a month ago and it's absolutely fantastic still. Hopefully everything is unlocked from the start, that's my biggest request there lol.

I have a friend who really likes Hotel Dusk. I never played them, but I'd be very excited to check it out!

I mean looking at the release of the two Golden Sun games I feel that having a proper remake/remaster would work well. Maybe even a new game in the series.

Another title I hope to see back in its glory is Lufia but with the quality of Lufia II. Otherwise I would also enjoy some of the older Monster Hunter games remastered to the Nintendo Switch. Though I feel that franchise wouldn't work as well for remasters and remakes... maybe.

the last story game at the wii getting a revamp at the switch 1? yes 🤩

It’s obvious why games are going out of print.

It’s the same issue every company has in a workplace.

The stupid god damn printer won’t print anymore for who knows what god damn reason.
That stupid thing works 5% of the time in our office and we are grateful for it

The kind of machine that makes you understand the mindset of our ancestors ascribing thunder to an angry god - we have no means of understanding the phenomenon

All I genuinely need anymore is a Quintet RPG trilogy collection with Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time/Gaia and Terranigma. I don't need a remake or anything, just a collection would be enough. Illusion of Time and Terranigma are my childhood and I lost my copies at some point, so having a way to easily replay them (and hopefully own a physical copy too) is my #1 wish/hope/thing I want.

I could see them giving a brief glimpse of MP4 and then a full trailer during the switch 2 presentation to keep everybody happy. As for Zelda, like WWHD or something?
MP4 trailer would most likely be like the Bayo 3 re-reveal trailer with a small glimpse of gameplay with a release window.

Zelda I think will be Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, with no TOTK DLC in sight (I think they holding out on director cut/definitive editions) would be a good way to give more people Zelda while waiting for the next thing. I also think they could shadow-drop it like Pikmin 1 + 2 with physical later but yeah that's the only major remaster/remake left for NSW I feel.

This is a tough one but I'd probably have to go with Sin & Punishment 1 + 2. The original dev, Treasure, is all but dead and the series probably has no future so I'd love to see remakes of both games that are playable with standard controls (plus maybe gyro), online leaderboards etc. The first one still works fine on NSO but is obviously outdated graphically (though I still love its look) and has pretty amateurish voice acting. The sequel still holds up incredibly but probably needs to be rebalanced due to the lack of pointer controls and would benefit from a more vibrant colour scheme plus modern lighting. Pretty much a pie in the sky wish but oh well.

Would love a TP shadow drop, I never fully replayed the original since its release, which must be about 10 years ago by now
don't say it

Sin and Punishment is still rad and I absolutely adore Sin and Punishment 2. I replayed both a year ago and they absolutely still hold up. I'm torn here for Sin and Punishment 2 in particular because I'd love to see it come back, but I think for me at least it needs IR aiming to go along with it. If Nintendo ever makes a legacy Wii Remote accessory, Sin and Punishment needs to be right there with it.

Following what sounds like an excellent Prince of Persia game (which is on its way to me, woop woop), and following their past success with Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, I'd like to see Ubisoft Montpellier revive Wario Land under EPD's supervision. Bring Hiroji Kiyotake and let him supervise, and see if Takehiro Izushi can be tempted out of retirement for a supervisory role, too. Ubisoft Montpellier should have the design chops for a mascot platformer/Metroidvania successor to Wario Land 3.

WayForward would be the other probably obvious choice, but I've never played the Shantae series so I can't really speak for their quality. WayForward would potentially be the likelier choice, too; I can't see Ubisoft assigning Montpellier to another company's IP given Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still apparently in development (but who knows what sort of train wreck this is behind the scenes), and I think they'll keep the studio on Prince of Persia if Lost Crown does well.

Yeah, S&P2 is too much fun with the pointer controls. I doubt gyro could properly replicate it but it's a compromise I'd be willing to accept just to have the game available on modern consoles (and in HD). The Wii release was playable with the Classic Controller as well after all.

We may be getting a new Treasure game this year.

Oh, I know, but Treasure has been basically a one man company consisting of Maegawa for years now. I obviously would love it if he got something off the ground but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I voted Mother 3 in the poll. Too crazy?
Go with your gut! Will it into existence if it isn't happening!

I don't know if this is the time, but one day Mother 3 is going to happen and we are all going to wonder why it took so long.

I think Mother 3 and a series collection will happen at some point. Nintendo knows it would sell well.

@Paraspikey the 16 day bidirectional range for the samus aran amiibo 26th january restock covers the part of february (1st and 2nd week) that people expect a february direct to be at. maybe we see metroid prime news at the rumored february direct? 🧐 inhales metroid copium

despite everyone waiting a DLC for Tears of The Kingdom, Nintendo will not do this for a very good reason(they want the next mainline Legend of Zelda game, ready by 2027/2028, if the Zelda team did a DLC for Tears of The Kingdom, everyone would be playing the next Legend of Zelda by 2029/2031

Yes, Nintendo will be working on much stronger hardware, and if they focused on Tears of the Kingdom DLC, that would have made the next Legend of Zelda start development this year or next year, giving the Zelda team, much less time to work on it(also Nintendo problaby want the next Legend of Zelda by at least on year 4 of it next console, if not less(so by 2027/2028)

Something something WWHD + TPHD.

Edit: Which reminds me, I still have to play SSHD.

Why do you assume that DLC would take them two years to complete?

i assumed Tears of the Kingdom DLC would be ambitious as Future Redeemed/Torna was, so a DLC in this kinda of ambitious, lately many Nintendo IP has taken a more ambitous scope, so short of a mini campaing
Both Torna and Future Redeemed came out less than a year after the main games so I'm not sure how you arrived at 2 years but alright.

I'm not sure if this was what they were getting at, but at least for the Xenoblade games there was clearly thought put into the dlc and some work done before the games released. IIRC Torna had been planned for the main game but was cut for time and pacing, and FR must have had thought put into it during the main game development as the founder statues were pretty blatant dlc bait. Also we know Xenoblade 3 was moved up, so odds are by the time the game was revealed most of the team was working on the dlc. It's probably impossible to go from nothing to 20 hour dlc campaign in a year, especially with modern game development.

Bang on. Torna was planned to be slotted between, I believe, chapter 7 and 8 but was cut and expanded into Torna. Future Redeemed was planned from the start, and it's kinda blatant.

It should be noted that Xenoblade 3 was seemingly completed a fair bit before the actual reveal and release of the game in Feb/July of 2022, so Future Redeemed had a lot of time in the oven compared to the majority of other DLCs for other titles.

Real talk, the only thing i could see Nintendo doing for TotK is a Master Mode update (free update) that adds Gold type enemies, and would this really be called DLC (in theory yes, but in the meaning of how the term is usually used)?

And even if Aonuma were to talk shit, and they are doing DLC (more than Master Mode stuff), then it's likely not on the scale of Torna, Future Redeemed or something like Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree.
On top, it's also likely that even in this case, the "main" team would've moved on already and the DLC would be done by a smaller core team, so it would definitely not delay any plans for the next new Zelda game.

True but the same goes for a hypothetical TotK DLC. If Aonuma's claim about TotK having been delayed for over a year for polishing is accurate, planning and development on DLC could have also started much earlier. They wouldn't have started on May 12, 2023, so I'm not really sure why it would delay the next Zelda to such an extent.

While I don't really expect us to get much more than what you are saying I would really welcome a small expansion akin to Bowser's Fury as an incentive to get a TotK rerelease or upgrade patch for for the new System.

It could be a smaller more focussed adventure that could maybe even quell the needs of more classic Zelda fans.
I would envision it as something similar to the great plateau or the indie game a short hike.
A more condensed version of the main gameplay loop of the main game, but with the benefits of what you are able to do when you are realising a more focused shorter experience.
It could expand upon the sky islands that were been so prominent in the marketing while they were just a vehicle for puzzles in the actual game and have some story take place outside of memories. Maybe try to utilise some new rendering techniques or other features that weren't possible on the current Switch.

But I'm just daydreaming.

A short little 3D Zelda would be cool.

What exactly is "short" in your mind for a 3D Zelda?

The other day I was thinking about DLC in general and thought of Burnout Paradise’s Big Surf Island and that made me think how they should just add that directly into in Zelda TK. Just one day you are playing and there it is.

I also thought of Big Surf Sky Island right after which also made me laugh.
