I feel like expectations are low for an actually really obvious reason, which is that we're all pretty confident that a new console is getting announced early next year and typically the end of a Nintendo console's life cycle is slower.
I guess June kind of shifted my expectations on that front, the June Direct was way better than I expected and kinda convinced me Nintendo won’t slow down. This year in general I think has the most big new EPD games since 2017 I think?

Massive switch userbase + likely backwards compatibility + covid pushing back Switch 1 games that we likely would’ve seen a while ago are all good reasons why there’s no reason to expect a slowdown imo.

I don’t think this’ll be a Wii U to switch situation where, barring BotW, Wii U completely shut down before Switch. Think it’ll be a much more smooth cross gen period. And I don’t think they’ll care about revealing games developed primarily for Switch 1 ahead of time even if they blend into that cross gen period later with enhanced editions.

Youn know what, considering the success of One Piece live action and pirates in genreal in the last year on mainstream, maybe Sega should really time a Skies of Arcadia port with the second season

Same Capcom with Mega Man Legends

It wouldn't surprise me to get a quiet Direct in first party terms today, but that definitely doesn't mean I expect Nintendo to suddenly stop software support on Switch.

It's Direct day my dudes. Gonne be hard to get through this morning lol.

But this will be my first time doing a live reaction so I'm excited for that (even though I'm only expecting a couple of my friends to be there).

I just hope that Team Asano will be there and with something new for the Bravely series.
I know that is unlikely, but I love that series really too much😭

The remake of FE4 would also satisfy me though (but not as much as a new Bravely game)

Noticed this in my recommendations today:

Like...really?! lol

I'm happy if we get a quiet first party with today's Direct, extended Super Mario RPG trailer, FZero GX HD, a look at the Princess Peach game and confirmation Luigi's Mansion is coming alongside 2 HD would do me nicely. Metroid of course would be lovely but i'm not sure what to expect with that.

Third parties however, I want some big/cool reveals! Shadows of the Damned and Lollypop Chainsaw remasters/remakes being confirmed for Switch. Yakuza games coming to Switch would be brilliant, some HD remasters from SEGA (Billy Hatcher pls) and Capcom (C'mon classic horror collection with RE-3 and Dino Crisis 1 & 2)

5 hours until they blindside by starting with TotK DLC and Fujibayashi appears on screen with a charming smile saying “Did you like it?”

There's a grift out there that consists of complaining about modern gaming and how it's not how it used to be, take an example like Diablo 4 or Overwatch and extrapolate to the entire industry. It's a variation of the outraged gamer theme mixed with the nostalgia angle that gets the views.

I mean really it's just a more extreme version of the "I miss old Nintendo/Wii U had more charm" pipeline.

I could see this being a pretty boring Direct for me (it happens) so I'm trying to be reasonable, manage my expectations, and remind myself I have tons to play and am usually well-fed with stuff other people find interminable at these presentations. I'm trying to cut back on spending!

But equally, I see people bring up even the outside possibility of Xenogears/saga or joke about GCN/Wii Fire Emblem ports and I lose all rationality. Give me all my dream games and more! Announce new stuff! Shadow drop stuff! Tease things way too early! Too much is never enough!

I love it when surprise mandatory meetings are booked right at the start of the Direct.

Old people have been complaining about how things used to be better back in the old days/when they were kids for thousands of years. 80's and 90's kids are now in their 30's to 40's, the beginning of peak "back in my day" nonsense.

Well-observed! While I cherish my personal old experiences, I'm quite aware of the dangerous pitfalls of nostalgia. Especially when it gets mixed with awful, reactionary politics. I'm glad that I always try to remain fresh and have an open mind. :p

My only (non-leaked) prediction for the Direct is the release date reveal for the Zelda and Ganondorf Amiibo as well as the Master Mode update coming to TotK. After the Amiibo and Master Mode are out, TotK will not get any more support or updates.

Maybe Koizumi will throw away his cutting hat like Kung Lao to show Mortal Kombat 1, I just hope he won't cut Takahashi-san.

Gimme a remake of the first game too, bundled with the second one!

I can’t even predict anything for monolith lol
Apart from surprise Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition I don't think anything is really possible right now. If they are working on a new IP, then I can see Nintendo wanting to launch that on new hardware. Work on Xenoblade 4 will also be in the super early stages.

Also probably too early for X. Boo.

you cant take 2/3 bad games that released this year and generalize as 2023 is a horrible year, a year that released Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy 16, Marvel Spider-Man 2, Starfield, cant de considerable a worst year, i only would consider 2023 a worst year, if all releases for all consoles consisted of bad games

Now that the hardware speculation thread is in full doom mode for the next switch let’s just hope for a banger direct with lots of games so that they can maybe delay it to 2025 and not immediately fail.

Yeah as much as I’d love something from Monolith here (be it an X port or new game) I think the next Xeno announcement we get will be alongside the new hardware.

Only thing that could maybe pop up in this direct is the Noah/Mio amiibo.

2023 is one hell of a year for video games, that's for sure. One of the very best in my lifetime, haha.

It's definitely a bad year for people who don't like change

TotK is a double down on Zelda's move to open world

FF16 is a double down FF move to action games

Starfield is the first big title to launch console exclusive on Xbox since the Microsoft began their M&A spree

Oh god, I never really go in there. I'm scared to know why the sudden turn towards doom mode. Seemed like a lot of people were impressed by the recent Gamescom rumors.

A very reliable NVIDIA leaker seemed to indicate 8nm is the node for the new Switch recently. Which by current calculations would be impossible without it being much, MUCH bigger.
