It could be announced tomorrow and direct be September 13 afternoon in America. So it’d be like 30ish hours notice which they’ve done before. Either way I just want the announcement sooner lol
Yeah this is exactly what I'm expecting, 10am ET tomorrow for a 6pm ET Wednesday show

Ok tinfoil hat time. So this is just a random observation on twitter with like 8 likes, but assuming it’s based in fact, what if Nintendo rushed through Tour because Mario Kart 10 is due sooner than we thought. What if [REDACTED] really is March 2024 with Mario Kart 10 just 6-8 months behind?

I’m delusional

I don't think that is crazy at all, and I don't even think it will be that long.

[Redacted] will be announced in January, Mario Kart 10 will be shown in February, and it will be available at launch in May.

So we are getting both a F-Zero GX remake and a F-Zero 99?

And we’re sure the new Donkey Kong game is a Mario vs DK title?
-Probably
-Definitely, though a new DKC can still happen. Pyoro only gets leaks for upcoming games, and they could have a teaser like what they did for Luigi’s mansion 2 remaster and the Peach game

Thinking about Prime 4 while playing Bloodborne (which is giving me similar feelings of first playing Prime btw, probably gonna end up a top 5 game of all time)

I feel like the Prime 4 debate is constantly “like the old ones or bigger/open world” but I think BB (and the souls games I guess but I haven’t played them) provides a pretty cool evolution in that it’s interconnected and claustrophobic like Metroid, but it’s not segmented by loading screens.

I mean moreso in the first half of the game, the second half has a bit more segmented areas. But Central Yharnam, Old Yharnam, Cathedral Ward, Hemwick Charnel Lane, Forbidden Woods, Byrgenwerth, Upper Cathedral Ward, and even Yahar’gul can all be traversed without loading screens if you have the right shortcuts opened up.

Now, obviously Metroid’s world design is more complex in terms of ability gating, but I wonder if that’s something Retro would attempt.

I remember reading a blog from one of Retros artists a bit after Tropical Freeze released, and they were saying how much they've been recently influenced by FROM's work. It makes a lot of sense because my feelings while playing their Souls(bornekieroring) games over the last decade are the only games that give me the same feelings of atmosphere and world building that Retro's games give me. Those games were obviously influenced by Metroid and Prime, so I'm curious to see what cues Retro might take from them, if any. Or maybe they'll just simply evolve their own formula.

I do hope Rero can get on FROMs level in terms of creature/character design. They're good, but definitely not to the level of their environment artists.

Dark Cloud 3 confirmed!

Through datamining we can determine that Tour's active development (on courses, drivers, balloons and badges; we do not have render dates for karts or gliders but it's easy to assume this applies to them as well) was effectively wrapped up by November last year; with the very last preparations made for the remaining content completed by April this year (the type of work that would only require a skeleton crew).

I'd imagine Tour's quick wrap-up has less to do with the impending release of a Mario Kart 10 and more about the Booster Course Pass also wrapping up by the end of October; the frequency of added courses increased significantly starting last year and even more this year in an effort clearly connected to the BCP recycling that same content. For the specific timing, wrapping up the new content rollout on the 4th Anniversary seems like a specifically planned and meaningful target given how much they rushed through what they had left. We know of some drivers and courses that ended up scrapped, so it's likely they had a deadline in mind and some things just couldn't make the cut in time for one reason or another.

Bloodborne is an absolute masterpiece, imo. It's in my top ten for sure. Glad you're enjoying it. When I checked Era recently, I noticed you'd posted an LTTP there, and I'm assuming you're still updating it? I'll have to have a read through when I find the time.

But yeah, Bloodborne does world design exceptionally well, and traveling from location to location feels simultaneously interconnected and claustrophobic, as you put it. Yharnam feels like a big city, but this is more accomplished through art direction and sights, versus pointlessly huge areas (though I know some folks really aren't fond of the Forbidden Woods). This is why I just didn't vibe with Elden Ring much, I'm tired of everything being a tedious open world. I thought FromSoft would make theirs better, and in fairness, they did, but the more linear dungeons were still the actual meat of the game.

You'll play The Old Hunters, right? It elevates the entire experience.

I've been playing Bloodborne for hours a day for the past week or so. It's tied for my favorite game of all time, alongside XB2.

Incredible set pieces, boss designs, lore, worldbuilding, atmosphere, environmental storytelling, and most importantly, gameplay. I pick it up and get re-obsessed with it at least once per year.

I started a Bloodtinge build today. Basically dumping all my stats into Bloodtinge and parrying my way through the game. Named my character Perry von Gunthorpe. Already fighting the Shadows of Yharnam....

Bloodborne is an absolutely fantastic game and to date is the only Eldensekiroulsborne game I actually beat.

Alright, well, since others on Famiboards have pointed out this stuff about Pyoro, here's my theory about the leaks. I had not posted earlier so as not to potentially do any harm.

Wow, just now remembered he never leaked warioware, good catch! But I think we sould look at the release date for the game he did/ didn’t leak. Mario wonder, pikmin 1/2, and Mario RPG all come out 4-5 months after reveal, while peach and Luigi’s mansion come out later on. Perhaps he only knows about game releasing in the next 5 or so months, meaning we could still get a game or 2 announced for later next year in this direct (Plus whatever games he never leaked after getting nuked). The only wrench in this little theory is warioware releasing before Mario RPG, but maybe the games smaller scale could’ve lead CMS to hold off on listing it

What about Metal Gear Solid and Detective Pikachu?

Bloodborne is amazing but I found its final 1/4 a bit underwhelming, as well as the final boss. I want a sequel sooooooo bad though (and Sekiro 2 also). Forbidden Woods, Hemwick Charnel Lane, and Cainhurst Castle are all awesome even though Id agree they feel a bit disconnected from the other main areas of Yharnam. Dark Souls 1 had my favorite world design but BB is close behind, and has my favorite music in the Souls(bornekiroring) series.

I havent played any DLC for any of their games or utilized any online features. I'll do that when they get eventual replays years down the road. It just seems so daunting to replay any of them right now, as they're quite big and they all kicked my ass hard.

I still need to finish Elden Ring. I prob put maybe 70 hrs into it and got stuck on Malenia, and was just feeling a bit burned out at that point. And I remeber being pissed cause I still couldn't figure out how to get up to that Catherdreal looking place on the cliff to the west of the Acadamy of Raya Lucaria and I'm way too stubborn to look anything up. I also, like you mentioned, just feel burned out on open worlds, even though the world itself in ER is beautiful and well designed, there are just too many tedious elements to it.

Regardless of the direct being on Wed or Thursday, we should know by tomorrow right?

If Switch 2 actually ends up releasing H1 2024, Do you guys think Nintendo could show crossgen games at this Direct without revealing that they're crossgen until the Switch 2 reveal? e.g. could games like Prime 4 or even the FE4 remake be crossgen games that are revealed w/ their Switch 1 versions at this Direct?
I don't think so unfortunately. If anything, they will be revealed to be cross-gen, but not until until after the [REDACTED] reveal.

IF Pyoro does have corporate-level, back-end access via a retailer, and he hasn't actually seen the direct, then he wouldn't know what closes the direct. Which could be why he has failed to elaborate upon his last tweet.

(just joined - been lurking on this thread and decided to contribute!)

No, but if say he has access to the following marketing material

New Mario vs DK
Another Code remakes
Princess Peach Showtime
Metroid Prime 4
F-Zero 99

I think it's pretty obvious what's going to end that direct

A Smash update adding Alear from Fire Emblem as one last bonus character 🗿

Hello! :) I’ve been lurking since Friday but I joined because I thought we could use another process truster in this thread. Can’t wait to see Prime 4 soon haha

edit: oh my god I didn’t know the likes on this site were the Miiverse yeahs that’s so cute

If the direct does get announced tomorrow I better see a Nate the Hate thumbnail with Sigurd in it on Youtube right after.

See, I don't think he's teased the game that closes the direct yet. I don't think MP4 will be shown here - I think Feb is the time with a late Spring/Summer 24 release. Beyond that, Peach or Mario v. DK could open the direct (personally I think FE4 remake will open), but I don't think either of them could close.

Heck, I'll go even further. I just replayed World and then 3 because of Mario Wonder hype and nowadays I'd say 3's spot in even my top 5 is hanging by an absolute thread. It's so over once Wonder comes out.
I agree with what you said, BlackthornOrion. Though it was a bit weird when you said the music sounds like "someone took a cheesegrader to a microphone while sitting on a piano", and you went too far imo when you said the game "looks like someone added a piss filter to a poorly done Mario spritehack". Too far, imo.

If MP4 is here, it will most certainly close. If I had to take a wild, out of the blue guess, I think the closer could be a new 2D zelda for 2024 or a 3rd smash fighter pass (obviously including Alear ;)

The Engage mechanic would make for an interesting Smash fighter, I'll give you that at least

since on Sylux bio on Metroid Prime Hunters is stated he want the Galactic Federation, what if some tragedy happened to Sylux family/friends, and he blame the Galactic Federation for it

Almost certainly the case, yeah. Just really hoping the bloke (well, I don't even know if they're a bloke, they may not be) can be made into a compelling character.
I still like my theory that for maximum effect of making Sylux a rival that hits "too close to home" for Samus...make him another who was a survivor of the K-2L massacre.

Then instead of being scooped up by kindly bird dads who would raise Samus with love and make Samus their greatest warrior...he got scooped up by other, less savory characters that gave similar training, but filled his mind with hatred for the Federation and/or the Chozo (maybe survivors of the civilization from the Bermuda system?). Which was easily fostered because, as far as Sylux remembers, they weren't "there to help K-2L when they most needed it".

It’s still so insane to me how far ahead of other gaming CEOs he is, to the point where devs will go out of there way to honor his legacy, and people like Sakurai and Reggie still hold him close to this day
Like, it's clear that Sakurai is a genius, and the reverence that he holds for Iwata is on another level. And it is rightly given.

He was a very rare breed - a genius in his own right, and also a man of tremendous empathy and integrity. There will never be another like him.

Thank you Mr. Iwata. For everything.

Not sure why you quoted me twice haha

If we all accept the theory Pyoro has access to marketing materials, it's reasonable they wouldn't necessarily know what the opener and closer of the direct is. Thinking about it some more though, we know for a fact sometimes Nintendo withholds things from directs or marketing material to make sure it doesn't leak. Infamously the e3 2019 direct when shown to press the day before did not show the BotW sequel teaser. If Pyoro had been in that showing, they'd have leaked the "wrong" closer.
