Something I want to point out about Pyoro is that if he really does have the ability to see what all of Nintendo's private videos are (aka Direct game highlights), well then if the past is any indication, he won't be able to know EVERYTHING that is in the Direct.Let me elaborate. After a Direct typically airs, Nintendo will make a playlist of most of the announcements that they have on YouTube. However, there has been cases in the past where the company would not release a video of a game that they revealed. For example, the Princess Peach game and Luigi's Mansion 2 Remake both did not get any videos on the June 2023 playlist at all. What this means in theory is that Nintendo could have game announcements that may not have their own videos in the playlist. In addition, it may be possible that Nintendo may not make some of those announcements as private videos at first, only to be uploaded AFTER the Direct airs. So, I would not be surprised if Pyoro here may have the right information, but not ALL of it.

Do we think a new Nintendo Switch entry of Mario vs. Donkey Kong will outsell Mini-Land Mayhem (the best selling entry in the series) which sold 2.98m?
If it's the lemmings style(which I personally doubt) then no. In fact, I think it would sell on par with 3DS/Wii U title.

No, it is likely going to use F-Zero SNES game as a base for F-Zero 99 as Akira (developers behind Tetris 99 and Pac-man 99) likely used the original assembly source code from SMB1 to make Super Mario Bros. 35.
The SNES code of F-Zero seems to go VERY badly with the idea of F-Zero 99 is the issue I have.

Because the SNES game has few objects on screen at once and doesn't seem to be able to show much on screen.

And the thing will be killing AI racers to send those racers to other players to slow them down.

Which will cause many situations of tons of racers on screen.

Which I don't think the SNES game can handle?

Arika didn't outright use the assembly source code of SMB wholesale for SMB35; mostly because you can't actually just get NES assembly running on a Switch directly, less so add online to it; that's now how it works.

They absolutely referenced it to glean how physics worked, how the game engine dealt with stuff, but the entire thing was basically a modern reimplementation of the game.

If they went for a SNES-like look for F-Zero 99, they'd also have to reimplement how the game works. The original game didn't even support multiplayer as it is, most of the other ships are "fake" in the sense that the game doesn't really keep track of where they are and they only exist around your position.

ok if Prime 4 is the ender I'm personally expecting a under 2-minute teaser showing off the new environments and the soundtrack to set a mood, and the last 30 seconds will be a quick montage of Samus doing a bunch of cool shit ending on a new boss, then either a vague 2024 date or something like Q3 2024 (not expecting a exact date yet)

from my understanding this tweet was sarcastic. he's pointing out that his sources are not youtube

Depends on the marketing/release strategy.

Is it a 20$ eshop game ? Then definitely not.

Is it a 40 or 50$ physical release game ? Maybe.

I feel like there is a zero percent chance them doing an F-Zero 99 and nothing else F-Zero. Think about it from a business sense, why would you have a franchise with no retail games for the past 20 years be what you make a 99 game for? If they released a remaster of GX, THEN made F-Zero 99 it would make far more sense
They’re not gonna do this F-Zero 99 by itself, if it’s even a thing. It’s GX and 99 or just GX

but surely even you, shareholderchad, recognize the indirect value that mainline zelda and mario provide. they buoy juggernaut IP

Shareholder chad? Hmm.

But anyways, Indeed. It is a perfect example that despite its low profitability, It has other external benefits that make it essential to Nintendo's plans. Fan expectation, It moves hardware, and it reaches a crowd that Nintendo needs (and wants) but doesn't prioritize first. (Non-causal gamers). All examples I mentioned in my other post about how sales data and/or profit margin isn't telling the full story.

ITs just to illuminate the complicated nature of what deserves sequels and what we as fans can predict regarding what the company has in store for us.

I think this is Pyoro

Pyoro's earliest tweet was on September 13, 2022. The above account's join date was just eight days later, on September 21, 2022.

You may point out that their twitter account's creation date was March, 2021. Pyoro claims to have inherited their twitter account from a Chinese user that used to post about things unrelated to gaming leaks. When Pyoro inherited the account, they deleted all prior tweets. This would explain the Twitter account creation date.

All Million Sellers (as of Dec 2014) in the MvDK series (+DK94 which MvDK is a successor of)
DK '94 - 3.070.000
Mario vs. Donkey Kong - 1.370.000
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis - 1.520.000
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-land Mayhem - 2.980.000

Mini-land Mayhem sold better than the best-selling Metroid game until Metroid Dread!

But the point still stands that Pyoro didn’t leak Luigi’s mansion or the peach game. We could very well get something that he didn’t say/ know about

yeah, a SNES-based F-ZERO 99 would likely be a complete remake with very little technical similarity to the original game

amusingly thanks to the original game's style it'd basically be HD2D

unless, of course, it's just 99 parallel races with no interaction at all...

But it says he was last seen July 6th?

Parallel racers is really the only way F-Zero 99 could work with SNES graphics.

Maybe pyoro moved accounts soon after the June direct because he knew us goblins would find his account eventually

this was the absolute pinnacle of Nintendo presentation

I hope if we get another robust attempt at a new IP its reveal is as thoughtful as this
I loved the Star fox Zero and Yoshi too. The end year of Switch would be a perfect place to do this, you don't have that many games so you can do one of these.

I mean, You would never think Mario party is a monster seller unless you look at the Data. I can write a novel as to the intricacies of sales data and can form opinions to both support a new Mario vs. DK and shut it down. There are many variables and unquantifiable opportunity costs/rewards to account for as well. Nintendo pays someone 6 digits to do this kind of analysis for every title they publish.

For me, when evaluating the chances or worthiness of a sequel, I look at growth rate (hardware sales adjusted), estimated cost to produce, impact on hardware sales itself, and of course fan expectation. Taking all that into account you can find some more surprising but also subjective thoughts:

  • Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's least profitable series
  • Mario Kart 8 will go down as the most profitable Nintendo game in its history
  • Kirby deserves its one a year status and is more profitable than most other IP
  • Fire Emblem, despite its (lower in comparison) sales is more profitable than Zelda and Metroid
  • Pokemon has and likely will always be the most profitable series Nintendo publishes
  • Animal Crossing is challenging 3D Mario games in terms of profitability.

I can go on. These can be argued against but this is just what I've found considering the analysis points I posted above.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we're putting you in the device my dude. You're getting put in the contraption.

This direct needs to be good for holiday sales. Super Mario RPG and Wonder is a great 1-2 punch. We need some sides to go with that steak. Nothing is more important than holiday sales for the fiscal year
SMWon is more than enough for the holidays plus residual ToTK sales. I'm still of the mentality that this is a "cleaning house" direct for the switch and we won't get any massive game drops (prime 4, 3D mario, etc.) until I see more definitive leaks.

edit: I think I forgot that you... Can't even kill other racers in the SNES game if I think about it?

Lol the SNES code would have no bearing on the development of an F-Zero 99. They don't just take the original FC/SFC assembly of these games and "update" it and add online multiplayer

You know something Nintendo has never done, stop motion. Imagine if they revived that canned stop motion earthbound remake, how sick would that be

About the F-ZERO project, Nate did say he was told it was GX, but "his main confidence is in an F-ZERO project existing". So, what does that exactly mean? Is it a 99 game alongside GX HD? Is it a 99 game based on GX? Is the 99 game completely unrelated to F-ZERO and is GX HD indeed the sole F-ZERO project coming?

Who knows!

omg lore

oh lord they are putting him in the contraption

he is going to work the bellows until he expires from exhaustion

...why? visual clarity?

I'm pretty sure if they're going for an F-Zero X-esque death race they wouldn't go for SNES aesthetics because OG F-Zero didn't even have any way to attack other racers.

Now if they went for GPLegend or Climax, though...

About the F-ZERO project, Nate did say he was told it was GX, but "his main confidence is in an F-ZERO project existing". So, what does that exactly mean? Is it a 99 game alongside GX HD? I'm still sure everything is the same project. An F-Zero GX Remake with an online battle royale mode that's Also going to be available separately.

I have questions.

Does the device make money?

One thing I think people forget about Mini-land Mayhem is it had a pretty big marketing push. As someone who was a kid around the time it came out, (I am so sorry if I’m making anyone feel old) there were constant ads pushing it as the “next big Mario experience” on TV, magazines, websites, and wherever else it could infect the minds of impressionable youth. Another big thing it had going for it was a level editor. Being able to make your own “puzzles” was pretty entertaining, and I definitely sunk a ton of hours into that feature back then. Now, there’s a lot less demand after they oversaturated the Lemmings-clone market in the Wii U/3ds era, and no level editor they make can really compete with Mario Maker, but if they manage to give it another big hook and actually market it, I could see it doing decent

DK94 2 clearly the answer to all problems.

With MVSDK Rumors floating around, does this mean that "EDP DK Game" is still in development, or was all of that just a load of crap? I really hope that its still a real project, and Nintendo is just holding off to release it till the Switch 2 rolls around.
