As far as hardware goes, I seriously doubt we'll get the next console revealed in a standard Direct. Maybe a Direct dedicated specifically to it, but other events also seem likely.

The last one was 8 years ago. I wouldn't call that an obsession. Plus with the Mario Movie releasing and the Mario - Donkey Kong relationship being a central part of it, it makes quite a bit of sense to bring it back now.

I didn't think of the movie connection but that does make sense. But I still think the series was oddly prolific during the 3DS/Wii U era despite very few people actually caring.

the FE4 remake opening the direct was the highlight for me-- the artstyle looks sick.
