  • The process has forsaken us and I have forsaken it.

  • Only Metroid Prime Federation Force HD For Some Reason.

  • Just A Random JPEG Of Sylux In HD.

  • Nothing, Not Even Metroid Prime Pinball. Crocomire Is Still Dead. Just Endless Despair.

Metroid Prime 4 is the big thing for me now. Idk if Nate or Necro have heard it will be there.
Trust the process. Remember that Necro tweet I linked yesterday where he said (paraphrasing) "A Direct itself isn't surprising, it's what is within the Direct that is worth the hype hehe". With so many known releases as we approach the end of the console's life, and with heavyweights like RPG remake, 2D Mario, and 3D Zelda already out of the way (as far as release and/or first reveal), it's very hard for me to see a world where that kind of excitement from Necro doesn't translate to re-revealing the most important 1st-party release Nintendo has yet to give an update on from the first year of Switch.
If Nintendo does a headline for Prime 2 then it’s over for Metroid Prime 4 showing up. If we get to the end of the direct with no Metroid I’ll be pretty anxious
This absolutely won't happen, but imagine if MP2 and MP4 are revealed in the middle of the Direct like the Metroid Dread spotlight in E3 2021. Everyone would be losing their minds over what the closer could possibly be lmao

If nothing else I would hazard a guess it confirms it will be in the first half of Sept. I don't see Nate teasing stuff three+ weeks out.
I think the absolute latest it can be (due to TGS) is September 20th in the morning, and that's seriously pushing it. So we're only 2.5 weeks out at maximum, which really isn't that far off. IMO the signs all point to it being the week of the 11th, but it's just nice to know we're pretty close no matter which week it is.

Refining my predictions:

I think we'll have :

  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder (a trailer)
  • Splatoon 3 DLC
  • WarioWare : Move it !

Doubtful :

I don't think Luigi's Mansion 2 and Peach will be present. They'll be shown at the February Direct when their release is near. Today, the focus will be on Super Mario.

I hope :

  • Metroid Prime 2, if it's a remastered like 1. Or Metroid Prime 2+3, if it's just "HD". Again, no point to release these two games separately if it's just "HD".
  • F-Zero. I don't know if the rumor has evolved since then. Nate will probably tell us in his predictions video, but Nintendo needs to give another chance to this license. Now is the perfect time to do it !
  • A new Donkey Kong. I hope so, but at the same time, I doubt it. With Super Mario Bros. Wonder, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo postponed the announcement.

My predictions aren't fun, but I try to be as realistic as possible :) I hope there won't be too many DLCs. For the last year (probably), I only want games !

For 3rd parties, it's too complicated to make predictions with TGS 2023 coming up. Whatever the event, I want to hear about Level-5 games and the Dragon Quest 3 remake (come on Square Enix !!!).

For the Metroid fans out there, do y'all ever think about what it would be like if they picked a different hunter to cliffhanger on in Metroid Prime 3 16+ years ago than Sylux? Like if they picked Trace for example, I would have been "YO WHAT MY BOY TRACE IS THERE!" instead of "Wait was that...Sylux I think...maybe?"

Yeah lol. But I want to see all the crazy details in an awesome new suit!

I really hope they show Luigi’s Mansion 2 and then confirm that it will actually be part of a collection with the first game.

Alright, choose 18 new fighters for the Fighters Pass 3.
1: Geno (Super Mario RPG)
2: Shantae
3: Rayman
4: Meowscarada
5: Bomberman
6: Paper Mario
7: Ganondorf (TotK)
8: The Hunter (Monster Hunter)
9: Waluigi
10: Waddle Dee
11: Ring Fit Runner
12: Doom Protagonist
13: Master Chief
14: The Nahobino (Shin Megami Tensei V)
15: The Prince (Katamari Damacy)
16: Tails (Sonic)
17: Goku (Dragon Ball Z)
18: Mickey Mouse

Yes please.

Would love to have a reason to replay Luigi's Mansion 1.

There's a port on the 3DS but...... well.....

The 3DS port is amazing. I bought it at a local game shop, played through the game and the hidden mansion. Now I'm playing it on my PC bc I dumped the game and it cleans up AMAZINGLY. Very good looking game at 1080p-ish (3DS screen dimensions are weird so it isn't quite 1080p). All they have to do is touch up the controls, increase the resolution, and put it on the eShop. Instant success.

Those threads are always hard for me to participate in because I don't have any "dream games". Like, unless Bachelor campaign for Pathologic 2 is switch exclusive, I guess? I don't need MOTHER 4 or anything like that, and I feel like various dream games might have a big chance of turning into Deadly Premonition 2. I always just like new things no matter what they are.

That said, it IS time for Prime 4. Every Direct features a new game, even back during those monthly Direct days, so we're clearly not just going to have retreads of info about Wario, Mario, more Mario, Luigi Mario and Pink Mario.

Alright, choose 18 new fighters for the Fighters Pass 3.
1. DOOM Slayer
2. DOOM Slayer
3. DOOM Slayer
4. DOOM Slayer
5. DOOM Slayer
6. DOOM Slayer
7. DOOM Slayer
8. DOOM Slayer
9. DOOM Slayer
10. DOOM Slayer
11. DOOM Slayer
12. DOOM Slayer
13. DOOM Slayer
14. DOOM Slayer
15. DOOM Slayer
16. DOOM Slayer
17. DOOM Slayer
18. DOOM Slayer

Bonus question: guess my favorite game of all time

Oh and Bandana Dee. Modern Kirby needs some respect and Bandana Dee has been a major character for about a decade.

So will this be the shortest we've ever had to wait between general directs before?

The poll has me so happy

Prime 2 is such a weird game to me in that it’s not discussed or acknowledged nearly as much as Nintendo’s other GOAT-caliber games but it’s up there with them imo.

So it makes me feel like I’m in on the secret of how good this underrated, end-of-flop-console-life sequel in a niche series is lol.

It’s gonna feel weird when it actually gets time in the spotlight and people are talking about it on a wide scale, but very very deserved :) hoping for some newfound appreciation, retrospectives and analyses about why it holds up so well.

It is a great game, but even in this day and age the key hunt is going to get trashed pretty hard.

Remember when people said this thread was slow and there didn't seem to be a lot of hype/anticipation? Good times
I love when these threads are chill and I love when they inevitably get more and more genuinely hyped. We went through 12 pages in the last two days alone which is awesome! Seemingly 19 days at most left for the big show :)

Let's remind ourselves that the pre TGS Direct is always filled with smaller japanese third party games which can make some people say those are the worst Directs of the year. (couldn't be me though)
There's some stuff I'd love to see from Japanese developers - Ys X International release confirmed for 2024; Dragon Quest III 2D-HD actually being real and not a fever dream we all had; Good-Feel's self-published game coming West...

Surprises would be grand, too.

The last September ones always had few 1st party reveals and that's what I'm watching them for, so yeah, I'm gonna keep my expectations in check. Especially because we got quite a lot announcements in June, even for 2024, and this will very likely be one of the last Switch Directs.

Last September was the farming Direct, right?

What now?

Side scrolling shooter Direct?
HD-2D Direct?
Soulsborne Direct?
Picross Direct?
Directionless Direct?
Jokes on you, for some people every direct is the farming direct.

Out of all the ideas people threw out, I think I want the Metroidvania Direct the most with Prime 4 as the headliner. There’s some cool indie Metroidvania’s seemingly close-ish, so getting some big fresh looks and dates locked in plus a surprise new game or two would be rad.

I don't need any smash bros right now, ultimate is a disappointment for me (all my fav characters are low tiers, no dkc tropical freeze content). I just want them to show the new dk and Metroid prime 4.

Theres only 10 low tiers and all of them get results except for Ganondorf, you don't need to worry about what tier your favourite character is in at the level of play 99% of people are at.

I'm all in favour of the Cat Among the Pigeons Direct:

  • Zelda DLC confirmed; wave 1 this winter, big story expansion in May 2024
  • Metroid Prime 4 confirmed for March 2024
  • significant new first party game confirmed for generic 2024 window

I'm constantly going back-and-forth on how likely it is that Nintendo will give us the other two numbered entries before 4 drops. On one hand, if you told me before Pikmin 4 released that Nintendo would give us the GameCube entries mere weeks ahead of launch, I wouldn't believe you and would have spoken of "oversaturation" and such. And Pikmin 4 is most likely the best-selling entry in the series by a good margin by this point. So Nintendo giving us Echoes now and potentially Corruption in February sounds plausible in that light. But on the other hand... yeah, I'm still worried about Nintendo potentially overloading people on Metroid. Plus, I also want the games to get as polished a treatment as Prime 1 got, and would that be the case if we got them right now? So I just voted that Metroid Prime 4 will be there, because I'm super (metroid) confident about it showing up in the Direct with a 2024 release date. Anything Metroid other than that will be a pleasant surprise.
i could see a HD port/remaster of Metroid Prime 2/3 releasing this septembre/ february/march respectivally, followed by Metroid Prime 4 releasing 6 months/1 year after the release of Metroid Prime 2/3 on Switch

If Necro knows of hype stuff for the direct then yeah it won’t be things we already know that are smaller in scale. Those don’t make a direct so hype. All the other big IPs are out of the way except for Metroid Prime 4 and I would say DK too.

I would love if it’s in the middle. Takahashi saying “please take a look at this”. It shows Metroid Prime 4 footage. Then he follows it with “and today we will be releasing Metroid Prime 2 on the eShop”. The direct would be so hype by then and I’m asking “what’s ending this direct?!”

I can only speak for myself but

Megroid Prime 4
Fire Emblem 4 remake
Something new for Smash Ultimate
Another GC remaster
DLC confirmed for Zelda TotK
New info on Mario RPG or Peach game

That alone would make for a pretty hype direct for me, specifically from Nintendo.

That’d probably be one of my favorite directs this Gen depending on how it all plays out.

Nintendo EPD and Monolith Soft need to take a leaf out of er, Monolith Soft's book and do a Zelda expansion that's roughly a quarter the size of the main game, with a different playable character, set in the distant past of the main game but connected to the overall narrative.

yes I am entirely angling for Tears of the Kingdom DLC with playable Zelda living in the ancient past we see in the main game

Ever since before the game came out I've been on the train of Zelda playable as the main hook of the DLC/expansion, and it being an actual big thing like Torna/Sunbreak and maybe even getting a standalone release. With the scope of TotK doing a DLC like this would take way more time than typical Nintendo DLC so I've been predicting Holiday 2024 for it for awhile. That way they can couple it with the new console as somewhat new Zelda game for it.

For me personally I'm pretty chill with most Directs, but personal highlights would include:
  • FE4 Remake
  • SMRPG (though I really would like it to have its own Direct or Overview, considering the Japanese Topics page for its reveal hints at more information in the future)
  • dark horse reveal of a new Fortune Street (what with the most recent game being in 2017 and PS4/Vita only, and the only sorta new content for the series as a whole recently being modding of the Wii game)

The Smash side of things would be a wonderful surprise, but I'm keeping expectations in check considering a lot is contingent on things that aren't officially revealed or signals that may or may not represent a pattern.

I'd also be glad to see Prime 4 / something DK / TOTK DLC if only for everyone who's been waiting for them.
