  • Metroid Prime 2! I #trusttheprocess.

  • Metroid Prime 2 and 3! I #trusttheprocess.

  • Metroid Prime 2 and 4! I #trusttheprocess.

  • Metroid Prime 2, 3, and 4! I #trusttheprocess.

  • No Numbered Games, But Something New And / Or Cool! I #trusttheprocess.

  • I #trusttheprocess, but it will test us with nothing for now.

  • The process has forsaken us and I have forsaken it.

  • Only Metroid Prime Federation Force HD For Some Reason.

  • Just A Random JPEG Of Sylux In HD.

  • Nothing, Not Even Metroid Prime Pinball. Crocomire Is Still Dead. Just Endless Despair.

Direct threads just aren't the same without @LukasManak22 and @Raccoon
The extreme poles of zealous hype on the one hand, and sincere despair on the other, are actually what kept Direct Speculation dynamics in exactly the right place.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world

Shadowdrop means less pre release marketing and hype time though so people know the game is out and can get excited for it. So they are not wrong about it hurting sales but it is only one factor of low sales
Zelda also didn't have much marketing, but it still sold well. A lot of months have passed since the game came out, so people are aware it exists. It's just a game that doesn't look appealing to many people.

I haven't been here a lot, and I know Raccoon decided to take a break from the site but I do not know what happened with Lukas. Someone in the know care to explain? :)

People really out here asking for a Square Enix Direct as if they haven't had a presence as one of, if not the, largest 3rd party in most recent Directs. Gimme a Capcom Direct with Mega Man Taisen, AA7, those leaked Power Stone, Captain Commando and Final Fight remakes/reboots. Or literally anyone else.

Zelda had an absolutely insane amount of marketing. Just because it had a slightly different marketing campaign than we're used to, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Metroid Prime Remaster had literally zero marketing before its release.

Capcom doesn't even have a single Switch release for the rest of 2023 to give updates for. Their next release in Apollo Justice Collection for Q1 2024, which I'm sure gonna be a direct-from-mobie port compilation (the games are $15 each there btw).

I'd love something from Capcom but they seem to have moved on from Switch and currently focused on PS5. Everyone assumes that this secret Q1 2024 title will be shown at State of Play and I also think it could be. Perhaps we won't see another high effort for Nintendo from Capcom until the successor launches...

We may be in the middle of Chill Week here for the Direct Speculation ST, but time is quickly marching onwards! We had at least 21 replies to Week 1’s question which was awesome. Now it’s time for Week 2’s question!

Week 2 – Directs have been having themes lately. Last year was the Farm Direct, February was the Level 5 Direct, and June was the Mario Direct. What is the theme of this next Direct and if you could choose the theme yourself what would you pick?

We are seemingly only five weeks away at most from the next Direct now if it lands before TGS which is awesome! While I’m here I do want to give another shout to THE LEGENDARY SPECULATOR CHALLENGE which is in the last 48 hours of the registration period. We have 14 challengers already which is awesome! Check out the OP for who has signed up already and if you want to join in the fun check this post here for details. The deadline to register is 11:59 PM on Friday US West Coast time.
Hmmm maybe like a Direct of Games Past. It doesn't even have to be that long since the game franchise has been updated, but long enough that no new games were added in the Switch era. It could include smaller titles like Rhythm Heaven, Tomodachi Life, Ace Attorney, and an update on Layton, but maybe could include bigger titles like DK, Metroid Prime, Star Fox, etc. Granted, this is more of a wishlist lol there is nothing I could really anticipate besides franchises that haven't made a new appearance in a while.

I want the next Direct to be a Metroidvania Direct.

  • A new Castlevania game by Konami (multiplatform, 2D / 2.5D) (It would be the perfect time for this, 'cause Castlevania: Nocturne hits Netflix in September, too)
  • Castlevania Final 2D collection (DoS, PoR, OoE, Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night)
  • Return of Silksong
  • A new Actraiser as a "never thought this would happen" announcement
  • Salt and Sacrifice ports
  • Announcement and first look for Bloodstained 2
  • Pandora's Tower HD/Definite Edition (enhanced port)
  • Metroid Prime 2 shadowdrop (HD enhanced, but not as much work done as Prime 1) [And yes, this counts as Metroidvania]
  • "One last thing": Metroid Prime 4 trailer, launches Spring 2024 (and will later be also announced as a launch game for Switch 2, cross-gen)

Plus some other Nintendo stuff, Mario Bros. Wonder, Mario RPG remake, maaaaaaybe Fire Emblem Holy War remake.

Missing: Princess Peach game, Zelda TotK DLC (possible announcement for TGAs, to throw Geoff a bone)

I'm aware, that's why I listed hypothetical announcements that would make sense for Switch, unlike MH6. I don't disagree that Capcom higher end stuff is targeting next gen, but all of those three leaked projects have budgets that are smaller or barely more expensive than Monster Hunter Stories 2 and are/were due out towards the end of the fiscal year / early next.

At minimum, I expect Capcom to throw Street Fighter 6, RE 7/8, RE4Remake and a Monster Hunter title on Switch 2.

And so we are back… I should have my own two cents in video form up soonish

And with this, Capcom's TGS show has been dated.

Last time, Nintendo and Sony both got their Direct and State of Play out on the same day (9/13/22), with TGS starting 9/15. Could we see a repeat happening again this year, with both airing their shows on 9/19?

If Capcom's going to show up in some form or fashion at either showcase, it'll be because they're following the pattern of letting the platform holders go first, before talking more about the games at their own TGS showcase. I still feel fairly confident that "MH6" will be at Sony's thing, but when it comes to Nintendo, as suggested above, there is a pretty wide berth of mid-range possibilities that could potentially show up, too.

And so, the clock ticks on.

Left 4 Dead looking a bit different these days

GameMill is the epitome of "hit and miss". Nick All Stars was a hit, Nick Kart racers was a miss. Hoping this is one of the hit games.

I have this irrational feeling that this is gonna be a full PS5 show. Not even a small glimpse of that Apollo Justice collection.

amiibo typically tend to release on the same day as, or in close proximity to, a first-party release (whether related to the amiibo or not). The Deep Cut amiibo are dated for November 17th, same day as Super Mario RPG, but the TotK amiibo still have their Late 2023 placeholder period.

Wonder if the December game will be a Direct thing, or a casual Twitter drop thing.

This would have been perfect if there were 13 dumplings on the plate. 13 would be your lucky number, and am out

This next Direct will be the Old Shit Direct, in more ways than one. The Direct will primarily focus on titles that have already been announced - Super Mario Wonder, Super Mario RPG, Detective Pikachu 2, maybe even Silksong or Prime 4 (though that might as well be a new announcement) - but most of the new shit will also be old shit. F-Zero GX HD or Metroid Prime 2 as the shadowdrop, new titles added to NSO, that kind of stuff. Personally, I'm cool with whatever Nintendo wants to show us as long as we get a new DK or Prime 4 or something on that tier.

If I could have any theming of my choosing, I'd go for the Metroid Direct and shadowdrop Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered, with the same degree of visual polish as MP Remastered, then end the Direct with the first real look at MP4.

This would already make for a pretty momentous occasion for fans, but a Switch port of any of the Prime spinoffs (Pinball, Hunters, Federation Force) would add a layer of greatness I'd be all about.

And as someone who only became a Metroid superfan by playing all four 2D titles in the leadup to Dread, I've never played any of those spinoffs, count me in 100% lol

Zelda amiibo could still get an October release date to line up with SMB: wonder. A December date isn't out of the question though.

The Xenoblade amiibo are most likely a 2024 release at this point.

I didn't know you were a newer fan! That's rad. 🥲 Which other Metroid games do you still have left to go through, then?
A Prime Remastered level remake of Hunters would be

not before Echoes and Corruption Remastered tho
Having the online multiplayer playable with gyro in place of the touch screen would be really neat.

What we need is a remake of the Hunters Mulitplayer as a standalone release. Gimme that sweet sweet arena shooter goodness.

Technically possible the Zelda amiibo could end up popping up first, yeah; would be a little weird for the Splatoon batch to get their date first though. Noah and Mio were definitely not coming this year from the moment they didn't have samples to show.

For what it's worth, the Japanese website pushed the Splatoon amiibo ahead on the upcoming list, but that would happen no matter what since the Zelda amiibo don't have a solid date yet; can’t be taken as definitive proof they are releasing later (though I think it’s very likely).

mm quick predictions for september direct:

  • opener: super mario wonders/mario rpg/princess peach segment/luigis mansion 2
  • mid: donkey kong new game teaser
  • ending: prime 2/3 remaster shadowdropped + 4 teaser
  • other games announced: tomodachi life (december), a kirby game (january)

If Prime Remastered 2 happens, I want to see Koizumi do a karaoké of the menu / credits theme.

Maybe this time I'll get all the lyrics aside for "fooliness" and "crazy".

For a while, I had hoped that Captain Toad 2 would come out near the end of the Switch's lifespan. However, with a new Mario game due in two months as well as Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Untitled Peach Game announced for 2024, that feels like enough mushroom kingdom lore for a while.

It might be tied to a physical release of a shadowdropped Direct game. That would make a lot of sense to me.

At the moment, there's already a bit that Capcom could stand to talk about. Dragon's Dogma 2 could use another update. Kunitsu-gami could use one as well. SF6 and Exoprimal's upcoming updates have already been spoken for. That RE4R "Separate Ways" DLC has got to be coming at some point, right?

And that's just for things that we know about currently. It's just a matter of seeing what Capcom's ready to let their partners talk about for 2024.

Give me the damn release date for those Zelda Amiibos Nintendo. Those might actually be my most anticipated Nintendo products for the rest of the year. And none of you better buy any until I have firmly secured mine.

I remember this in a very old place, someone made a gif with Aonuma running from Dark Souls and Skyrim games, this before BOTW.
