Mixed with the fact that, unlike TotK, MP4 has had no real details provided or content shown, the argument for it being next-gen, whether cross-release or not, is stronger than the one for TotK was, which was mostly based on looking at BotW and making poor assessments of the successor's release timeframe.
Yeah for me there's a bit of "why aren't they showing anything at all yet" going on. I'm sure they aren't concerned about it overshadowing any other franchise, it could use all the lead-up time and hype it can get, so what reason is there to be so tight-lipped unless there's another element? And it's easy to slip into thinking that element could be that they're prepping it for cross-gen and want to show off the upgraded version as the "main" version.

Granted, I still believe it's possible, probable even, that it's positioned as a big final game for Switch and Drake will come later with it's whole own big launch games. Just saying it's easy to see how it's possible Prime 4 is waiting for cross-gen like BotW was.

Edit: aaaalso I'm not saying I think Prime 4 would be the launch game for Drake, I'm a launch-window believer if anything at all. I could see it launching really early in that window, though, basically a big-selling popular family game (like Mario or DK) to kick it off followed by Prime to appeal to the "core gamer" audience (also I hate the concept that "core gamers" are somehow different from Mario fans and the like but I think yall know what I mean about having sorta two different vibes of games available at launch)

yup, people will probably disagree but if BOTW was released on the Wii u first during fall 2016 like originally planned then got a switch port later I highly doubt it would be the 30M+ it is today, I would also say it might have taken Metroid Dread probably an extra 6-8 months to pass 3M if it didn't launch with the OLED

Games sell Consols but it's also true the other way around "Consols sell games"

EDIT: 2 more examples would be spider-man miles morales selling extremely well with the majority of the sales from PS5 despite also being on PS4 day one

and link's Awakening launching with the switch lite, a remake of a GB game that is not only soon to be the best-selling 2D Zelda but also in the top 5 best selling Zelda games of all time

In my opinion, Switch is in a very different situation. You have to look not only at sales, but also at the number of active players.
Players are still very active. Never a console had so many active players after 7 years ! 😮

And I can give some counterexamples : 20 million Tears of the Kingdom in 3 months. Pikmin 4 is the best-selling games in the series, and all without a new console ;)

Let's be clear, I'm not denying the impact of new consoles on game sales, but it's not as significant as you think, especially for Switch.

In any case, when I see the sales of the Switch, the games and the number of active players, I wouldn't like to be Nintendo's CEO. It's hard to know when to launch the next Switch or the next games 😁

@xghost777 , I accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on Wednesday, September 20th at 2:00 PM Pacific Time and will be announced on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:00 AM Pacific Time

@xghost777 , I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on September 13th, at 07:00 in California

I think that's the time I mean. I mean 3PM in the UK, and 11PM in Japan

That's so that when they say "Pokémon Scarlet The hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part One The Teal Mask and Pokémon Violet The hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part One The Teal Mask will be available after this presentation", it will be the release date in all three regions

A quick google says the UK is 8 hours ahead of California so 7:00 AM should be right! Japan is 16 hours ahead which lines up too!

I just realised I'll be in Japan during the next Direct.

And if Nintendo has not announced the next Direct by the 11th, Famiboards (and the rest of the internet) will lose their patience, I can actually walk to Nintendo's HQ and ask them "where is my Direct Nintendo"

I won't though

I am proud to announce that an expanded port of Magic-Man will release exclusively for the next-gen Nintendo system. Experience all the cringe, theme park nerding, and Rhythm Heaven hatred in 4K 15FPS (yes, we prioritized looking good over running well) with new developer commentary and brand new boss battles! Please stay tuned for more info in the future!

Oh shit, Direct time next month, didn't realize yet, it's time to get hyped again.
June Direct to September Direct always pass by sooo fast.

Take it in because September to February gonna feel so long 😭
Personally I feel like that stretch doesn't really get bad until like January, since there's fall releases and the holidays to break things up.

Now the stretch from February to June (especially if the February one isn't great), paired with the now-usual "are they even gonna do a direct this summer" debate? That wait can get rough.

Welcome to our first big event of ST6, THE LEGENDARY SPECULATOR CHALLENGE! One of my favorite stories from ST5 was some of the bigger bets made in the thread regarding Direct announcement and timing so I wanted to open up that fun to everyone this time! For one week starting now, anyone interested in participating can make their predictions about Direct timing and put their Avatar picture and possibly title on the line for a shot to go down in Fami history!

Let’s break down how this will work. There are two levels / tiers to this challenge, Fun and Courageous. For the Fun tier, you simply have to pick the Direct date and air time. From the moment you fail to succeed, you will be given a unique avatar of my choosing that adheres to a certain theme that you must then wear until 2 weeks following the air date of the Direct. So hypothetically, if you guessed 2 weeks early, you are wearing the avatar for 4 weeks.

For the Courageous tier, for those who really want to experience the thrill of gambling and enjoy stronger glory for success, you must pick not only the Direct date and air time, but also the announcement time as well! Unlike the Fun tier, you must wear your unique avatar for 1 month following the air date and also change your title to one of three options of my choosing. For those in the Fun tier who also want a themed title for a goofier message board atmosphere, the same titles will be optionally offered to you as well when you receive your avatar.

I’m not sure exactly how popular this event will be, but I encourage anyone interested to participate! I’m prepared to hand out roughly 50 unique avatars to losers with priority to those who apply first. If we exceed that number…I’ll cross that bridge when we come to it lol!

Here’s how to directly participate exactly. If you wish to apply to the Fun tier, all you have to do is AT message me or reply to this post and underline “I will accept the challenge!” and then share your prediction. For example:

@xghost777 , I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on September 9th at 2:00 PM.

If you wish to apply to the Courageous tier you must do the same except put your declaration in bold and then share your prediction including announce time. For example:

@xghost777 , I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on September 9th at 2:00 PM and will be announced on September 8th at 6:00 AM.

All prediction times must be in US West Coast / California time to keep it easy for me. I will just say announcement times are typically either 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM (the first tweet of the day!) and typical show times are usually 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM or 2:00 PM. Midnight Nintendo announcements also typically do indeed take place at midnight in California. If you do pick midnight for any announcement, please say something like “announced at midnight between September 8th and September 9th” so I know exactly what you are signing up for. Also, in the event of a shadowdropped show for the Courageous tier please say something along the lines of “announced and released on September 9th at 2:00 PM.”

I do not recommend picking September 9th btw, it is a Saturday lol.

You will know I have accepted your submission when I Yeah! your post. At that time too, I will screen cap it on my phone so I know when you submitted and I do read every post in chronological order. It will not be right away, but I will update the Opening Post of this thread with a table to track people participating and so people following along can too. AT message me again if there are any errors or you need to make an update during the first week registration window though the point of underlining and bolding your post is to hopefully make sure you are fully aware of what you are signing up for lol. In the event the date strongly leaks or somehow the Direct itself airs next week, I will close the submission window, but honor it for anyone who has signed up already.

I hope you will all enjoy THE LEGENDARY SPECULATOR CHALLENGE! Again, anyone is welcome to join and the more people who sign up the sillier and more fun this likely will ultimately be :)
@xghost777 , I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on January 9th, 2024 at 3:00 PM and will be announced on January 8th at 6:00 AM.

My biggest problem with the idea that metroid prime 4 could a cross gen launch title in the same vein as botw is that this time the 2 console won't be at a similar level like GC and wii or wiiu and switch, I don't think prime 4 a switch game would be a big technical showcase for the next switch if the speculated specs are to be believed, unless you expect huge differences between the 2 version but in that case they're just making 2 version of the same game and not a botw situation.
I still think the game will be the swan song of the switch and release before the next switch with 3d Mario as the big showcase title
Metroid Prime 4 Switch sucessor version will only have improved assets/resolution, beside this the game will look/play identical to it original Switch version, kinda like theres almost no difference for Breath of the Wild on Wii U to Switch.

On that subject hopefully Wonder takes some queues from World in terms of overworld, secrets, hidden exits, alternate paths, etc. One of my biggest pet peeves with NSMB series was how they completely dropped all of that.

There's a little bit of that in NSMB. There's secret exits that lead to optional levels or cannons to future worlds.

But less than SMW and like the Forest of Illusion or anything like that.

As always Buddy Mission EN release. They have a ton of games coming in fall, so I can see a lot of updates.

New announcements: I am going against rumors and say that FE4 will NOT appear in this direct (Feb Direct). Last Sep they had 2 new first party titles announced (Engage and Kirby) so, not including Buddy Mission, we will get 2: Camelot's new game and another kirby game lol.

(10AMEST is what I mean to say)

I hope overlord pyoro isn't being targeted by ninjas and will spill the beans.
Hopefully he’s stopped. It’s kind of pathetic to leak all the big content to a direct, especially when so close to it being shown.

We’ve been down this road with many leakers from GAF to Era to now. Someone will come along who will leak an entire presentation. Eventually, they stop or disappear. They all just want their internet clout.

Since I willed Super Mario RPG into existence in every Nintendo Direct thread. Here is to willing Chrono Trigger remake into existence!
CreamyDisgustingBluegill-size_restricted.gif
As much as I want something new Chrono-wise, a CT remake is one of those things that is impossible to please everyone. It'll be interesting whether they would do 2D-HD, top down but 3D like Mario RPG, or something on a Trials of Mana scale.

But a CT remake coming out around the same time as the rumored FF9 remake would be an insane combo

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Mistwalker is really seen as an indie
Well if they're self-publishing their mobile game that's probably close enough to count. Even if it is a beefy, very impressive looking mobile game.

Also, occasionally a decidedly non-indie IP sneaks into a Nindies show if the game itself is of an indie scope/budget/developer.

I still say if they're gonna remake it, they aughta throw in a simple emulated port of the original as well just so it's not lost to time. That way anyone who doesn't like the direction of the remake has that, and anyone who wants something more modern has the remake.

Or split the difference and do like Square did with the FF Pixel Remasters. I just found out the other day that the higher-res character sprites were actually done by the original sprite artist, and the original composer oversaw the new arrangements of the soundtrack, which sounds like some fanfic wishlist stuff. If Square did a CT Pixel Remaster with that sort of care, I might actually prefer that to any other route.

This is the ideal scenario for me too, why hold back games that weren't developed for new hardware when you can put out patches as a great selling point of the new hardware. "Hey you know all those games you already own? Now they have ray-tracing and instant load times for the low low price of whatever the fuck the 2witch costs!"
That's my exact thought. I think it would work better to sell the point of "you can play your switch games here but better!" than just doing cross gen. Cross gen titles would confuse people with different versions available to buy and also would be difficult to explain to the non-enthusiast consumer the backwards compatibility function. And we know Nintendo wants to do things as simple as possible.

Also I think it would be much more impactful regarding Prime 4 to launch it on switch and after that feature it with the visual enhancements on the successor's presentation. We would be able to really feel the difference. Otherwise the game on the original switch would be damaged imo. We should take in consideration that the two times we had crossgen tittles (Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild) they both were in two machines with similar power. The difference between the switch and the successor should be huge.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Mistwalker is really seen as an indie
I mean, there's been some pretty pointedly "not literally indie" games at Indie Worlds; like, games literally published by someone as big as Xbox or even Nintendo for example.

I think we gotta recognize that "indie" can very much just be a vibes thing when it comes to Indie World these days.

I finally got my gaming enjoyment back after two health issues plaguing me for a year and I’m about to beat my sixth game in a row. Been unfortunately sick so I just saw this thread @xghost777

Bring on direct season
