Megaman Battle Network Collection is great.

Expect for the fact I have 2 icons on the switch menu. Whhhhhyyyyyy? Such a nothing thing in all reality. But it bugs me lol

I'm making headway in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous again.

I'm at Part 4 and nearing the end of it.

The more I play in a game session (past the 1 hour mark), the more I want to play.

Whereas:

The less I play (say, 30 minutes) then I'm unlikely to pick up the Steam Deck the next day.

Interesting...

How I'd put the GOTY nominees for the TGA's:

Locks:
-Zelda
-FF XVI
-Resident Evil 4

Wild Cards:
-Spider-Man 2
-Starfield
-Diabo IV
-Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
-[Redacted]
-Street Fighter 6
-Octopath Traveler 2
-Dead Space
-Hollow Knight: Silksong

Normally there is an indie game or two that sneaks in every year, but there is no way that happens this year. AAA is way too stacked.
Very late here, but I wanted to give my input lol

Locks:
  • Zelda
  • RE4

Likely*:
  • Spider-man 2
  • FFVXVI

Wild cards:
  • Starfield
  • Diablo IV
  • SF6
  • Silksong

*I think Spider-man 2 is pretty much a lock if it releases. I think XVI has a very good shot but I don't have the pre-release confidence in it that I do Zelda and Spider-man

As for the others; I don't think Jedi or Octopath really have a shot given the stacked year and the fact their predecessors did not get the nod. Dead Space feels like it didn't make enough of an impact, but I could be wrong.

I've seen people mention Hades 2, but AFAIK that's only releasing early access this year. It will have a very good shot of getting nominated whenever it gets a full release though.

I have something similar to this, in a way. If I don't have very long to game (like, less than an hour or something) my brain will tell me "Hey, you don't have enough time, don't bother starting up anything because you'll just start to really get into it by the time you have to stop". Even though I know that if I just sat down to play I'd enjoy it and it'd still be good, having that limited short time makes it hard for me to begin playing. So instead I usually end up just mindless scrolling the internet or watching random youtube or something, and feel like I wasted my time and should've played a game instead. Stupid brain.

Yes, "not having enough time" affects executive functioning and also induces decision paralysis.

This is a normal thing, tbh; well-studied, I think.

This hits me a lot, along with the opposite extreme of "oh you have more than an hour free to do something... how about you do something productive or healthy like working on project X or going out for a walk?"

Both are why it takes me forever to get through anything and when your go-to genre is RPGs, whelp... hello backlog

welp, got covid. Fortunately it's less serious than the previous times because I have all my shots, but still sucks because my throat gets sore from all the coughing. Also I'm pretty sure I got it in the office since one person from my team took his kids to disney last week and they are also sick

Every time I see one those Canadian Hyundai commercials that go on and on about "Wah" my brain goes one place and one place only:

For me, this happens whenever I have some sort of doctors appointment. For about a week ahead of them, I'm always going "man, even though this appointment will take two hours, tops, I don't want to do anything this week".

God, this is a really big problem I have as well :( I find I feel much better when I'm sitting down and actually playing a game, or watching a movie, or reading, or doing anything but browsing the same 5 websites and watching Youtube. But I don't because, even if I have literally all day, it doesn't feel like I have enough time. Glad to see it's not as rare an issue as I thought.

Should I just give in and start Nier replicant or not… today I mean

Yes. Just rip the band aid off. I think you'll have a good time. It's not a super long game. It's not short but I think at the pace you go, you should beat it and get multiple endings in a decent amount of time.

I feel this so hard. The worst is when you have something really important like a doctor appointment, a flight to catch, an interview, etc., and even if it's like... at 5PM and it's only 10AM right then, knowing it's coming up later on just eats at you and makes it hard to really relax and get into anything.

I'm really working on not doing this, at least not as much. It also helps to have something you REALLY want to play: For example, if I'm in the middle of a game that I can't stop thinking about and constantly want to hop back into, like a BOTW or Elden Ring or Persona 5, then it's easy because the draw is so strong. But if I'm only kind of playing a game or two at the time and feel sort of ambivalent about them then it's really tough.

One thing that has helped me is to just pick a time and set a limit. I'll tell my brain "okay, you can mindlessly scroll websites and do some youtube for a while, but at 12 o'clock you have to be done and go do X Thing". It sounds so simple but it helps sometimes.

starfield is not a wild card, its the most safe pick you could do after zelda.

Tried to see the Mario movie today but the movie failed to load 4 times and then they offered refunds. Guy was real polite and explained it was beyond the theater's control and was a problem with imax but the guy in front of me was real belligerent and ugly with his words. So much damn hate in this world. Refund was in a gift card though so not sure when I'll actually use it as that was probably the worst refund option for me but at least it's refunded.

Oh, I meant to talk about Starfield.

I think it's the most likely of the "Wild cards" group, but I disagree it's the most safe pick after Zelda.

RE4 is a universally acclaimed remake of the one of the most widely acclaimed games of all time. Spider-man is Spider-man, and follows two very well-received games.

Starfield is a brand new IP and has been delayed repeatedly. I think it will be well-received (and I hope it's good!) but there's a non-zero chance they completely fuck it up lol

Hard agree, like I doubt they'll fuck it up as bad as Fallout 76 but Bethesda GS and universal acclaim hasn't gone consistently hand in hand for over a decade. Plus massively hyped new IP's haven't had the best track record in recent years

Switch 2/Next reveal? June or post june?
As I said in the hardware thread the other day, I have a weird gut feeling that June will be frustratingly silent like last year, and then maybe July/August we start to hear things.

No reasoning, nothing backing this. Just my guts.

Welp. Mario used to be my favorite gaming company mascot until I saw the movie today and learned that he is canonically a

gamer 🤢

Yea, I don't think we get anything in June because they've got Pikmin 4 in July and they probably don't want that to be overshadowed by people talking about gigaflops and refresh rates. Later in the summer or early fall is fair game, especially if they're looking to launch before holiday 2023.

I can't believe how many people are bitching about that Crowbcat video because it's on a game they actually like this time. Big baby behaviour.

Oh I never did finish og Zone of the Enders did I? Well maybe I should just got back to my save file on that. It’s been a bit but I don’t feel like restarting since the plot wasn’t too deep anyways. Let’s see my current mission find the module necessary to avoid the laser attacks of the large orbital frame in park 1

Switch 2/Next reveal? June or post june?
If it's coming in 2023, I'm feeling a November launch with an August, possibly July, reveal that really goes all out with a release month/date and games shown. If it's coming in January-April 2024, I'm feeling a June-September quiet announcement ("Nintendo will release new hardware in 2024" + maybe a reveal of the concept) before going quiet over the holidays to give Switch the spotlight and then resuming marketing with a blowout in January 2024. If it's coming after April 2024, I suspect we hear about it officially next year to preserve Switch's sales as much as possible.

Gonna finally start Rune Factory 5 tomorrow. Well, I started it today, then got distracted by the Cavs playoff game and the nightly MLS action, so I'll be continuing it tomorrow.

I was gonna watch the Sonic movie for the first time but it looks like it's no longer on Hulu. Guess I'll play a videogame instead of watching one instead?

Mood music tonight

Tokyo Game Show is Sept. 21 - 24 this year. So that sorta puts an upper limit on how late in the year they'll want to wait (they won't be at the show per tradition, but plenty of their partners will be), and it won't be a quiet announcement. They haven't done that for any of their hardware in recent memory.

Well knocked out the first 4 episodes of Asura’s wrath. Yup this is anime as heck. Done for today tho

Looks like pulled it from Prime as well (though the sequel is on there). Guess you need paramount plus to see the first one.

Unfamiliar with this individual but I am really tired of the word “soulless” being used to criticize games. It means nothing.
I'm not saying it's not overused but I wouldn't go so far to say it's a meaningless criticism. Soulless is a pretty apt description of Sonic Forces for example

Soooooo I may have undersold how awful my old laptop was.

My new PC is compiling tens of thousands of shaders in a matter of minutes, took the old one well over an hour to do less. My framerate is generally somewhere between 80-120fps at full res, old one was close to to 20-25. Really glad I treated myself to this.

good lord thsi final level of dying light is garbaggio. here, do precise first person platforming while being chased down by zombies. fuck you. also the jump button will sometimes not work. fuck you. someties you will grab the ledges and fall off. fuck you. even if you land on the platform you will still fall through. fuck you. everything is dark as fuck. fuck you.

I put it on my too watch list a while back but never got around to watching. Not really feeling up for gaming tonight, kind of in the mood to watch something relatively short and light-hearted. Oh well.

I watched the Mario film.

Even as someone who’s played all the games and loves the series. Movie was mediocre and disappointing. Felt like they focused on pure set pieces and didn’t care much about letting the characters talk.

My favorite scenes were the few times the characters chatted a bit. But everything felt rushed. I hope the sequel focuses on letting scenes breathe a bit. And not trying to be so quick.

All and all. Disappointing watch. But I had a good time since I watched it with family who liked it.
