I swear guys that when the next Direct is announced in 2023 I BEG ALL OF YOU to learn the announcement times. We are doing this that long that is should not be a issue.

Has the time changed in Japan recently cause it was announcements were always at 2pm my time for the previous announcements this year.

( edit) wait, I think I'm just stupid, has the time changed for me, lol
Au contraire, Japan does not have DST, so everyone changes the clocks but them. Directs have always been announced at 11PM JST, independently of the month.

I like starting work earlier and getting off earlier as a result, but i do miss when these things were already announced by the time i got up

what are you guys doing to pass the time? I already did my workout this morning, but for fun I am going to do another ten minutes of cardio, just to finish a video I didn't while I did mine, play some Splatoon 3 and then come back to the thread around the next hour. :D

This is the biggest disappointment….waking up and seeing page 690 was not full of “nice” posts.

It should be noted that no one except people very high up would know about a potential merger until it is official (or if people leak it once it falls through). Also, video games are doing the opposite of crashing. Also, no merger would be surprising unless 2 of the big 3 merge. We all know EA, Square, Ubisoft are all potential acquisitions so not sure what would be surprising.

We can have a thread mark of the announce times listed out in detail with evidence of the patterns and people would still panic lol.

I know people said not to worry but they've done their direct announcements at this time this year. Imo it's either a mini or not happening just yet because there is 0% chance they do an announcement in an hour imo.

This year? True. But the last September Direct (which was Sep 21, mind you, so it's not been ages or anything) happened an hour later. Because the presentation itself also happened an hour later (the following day). So I wouldn't say there's 0% chance. There's been precedent so it's at least 50% if we combine it with the fact multiple reputable people say there will be some sort of presentation tomorrow....imo at least

I should probably get ready for work and make some coffee.

The reason people thought 9am EDT was in play was because many of their big announcements this year HAVE actually been at this time, including the partner direct announced IIRC.

It wasn't clear if generals would continue that trend or stay at 11pm JST.

Working…..😭

Going by how even Emily Rogers chimed in on the matter, I think we should take the Direct being a thing for tomorrow as real. The big question now is if whether it's revealed before the events itself or if it's shadowdroppred like it happened with other Minis.

If we actually get a general announcement in 45 minutes, selfishly, 10am ET is the best time for me to possible watch the Direct. My entire work team except me is in LA right now, so they're still asleep at the time that announcements are made/this direct is supposedly airing.

I understand. Personally I think this thread is at times a college course in mental illness. Other times, I think some people have very smart observations. (I know some of you will be offended and some of you will agree).

I have NO IDEA if the rumored Direct is real. Or what is announced, if it is.

My speculation would be DLC based. MK8D, Xeno3, Switch Sports, Mario Soccer, etc.

Curious about advance wars and Goldeneye. Since those are allegedly done and sitting.

I’m not trolling either. Or at least not trying to intentionally. I do have a sharp tongue and am “to the point” by nature.

And yes, some gaming companies are making great profits. But, when you factor in unionization, larger staffs to create next gen experiences, a world in financial flux, inflation, rising energy and food prices, and likely recession or even depression for some countries. With these factors, higher licensing fees, some companies like EA are looking for a partner or be absorbed (like the talks with Amazon and Apple). Some companies could view the future as uncertain and look to cash out or need assistance going forward. See the acquisitions by the Embracer group.

I’m not here to argue. Go check with your people. I’m relaying information as I received it. Just trying to clear up some misconceptions. Nothing more.

I hope you all get your hopes and dreams answered in the Direct. I’m more interested in the response of the audience and to see the direction they are going in.

I don’t have a dog in the fight and do not really care about most of the announcements.

I am very curious and think esports is an Avenue Nintendo should heavily, HEAVILY invest in. Especially for Middle school, High school and college aged students.

I will be interested to see if there is anything that could fill that niche. Smash, Splat3, MK8, Pokémon Unite…what could be next? … If anything.
are you an ai yes or no

I would have never guess that Nintendo will do a General with the shortest announcement to air time - it will be roughly 24 hours. Wild.

Well, yeah, global recession. Some companies will have higher costs and will have to downsize or like... not pay massive bonuses to CEOs ...
(savings for those years? no. Why even. Just pay out everything... no, i have no mercy on those)

At the same time: a crash for me is something where the industry essentially dies.
What we are talking here is not a crash. its a redistribution. Huge bloated ones will have lower earnings or maybe even be in the red for a year or 2. It will influence future investments. For shure. But thats not a crash, thats more of a correction in my book.

I agree that the games industry is definitely not going to crash anytime soon, and the past 10 years of near limitless growth has cemented some very strong new revenue streams that make it more robust (and harder to accurately measure) - mobile, digital, dlc, mtx, subs, esports etc. etc.

However, it's also undeniable that it's in the most perrillous period right now than it has been for decades. Hardware cannot meet demand (but the demand is definitely there at least). Game development has been thrown all over the place. Staff retention is really low (all industries not just gaming) and getting the skilled workforce is harder and more expensive. The global economy nosedive will definitely be felt.

I believe it's safe enough and will ride out the next couple of years just fine... but food for thought...

Nintendo are obviously safe, but there's no doubt their hardware plans have had to change.
Microsoft are rich and safe in diversity of product but the new console has launched dreadfully.
EA have a lot riding on their new football IP and they will be very nervous about this.
Sony are definitely hurting... but also rich. But also hurting... PS5 is an absolute disaster for them. It is not going to kill them obviously, but they really need to get significant hardware on shelves this Christmas.
SEGA are always doomed(!) but they do have a lot riding on Sonic Frontiers... but Sonic will love on as always even if this proves to be another fail.
Ubisoft are robust enough you'd think, but honestly, it is not a coincidence Mario + Rabbids looks as good as it does... they have strategically given this game a huge focus. Switch has the install base for success.

Like I said... I don't believe in a crash. Not at all. It's definitely the worst it has been in a long, long time though.

... yeah, in most of those cases, even in their bad phases they where in the green.
I really dont see all of them going down. I remember when hones started and free to play and people where "there wont be AAA games anymore!!"...and then we got stuff like Horizon or RDR2. Im kinda over the doomposting for the industry, when the munbers clearly are speaking against it, and some slight changed in leadership would fix most problems.
