Would not be at all surprised if it was a smaller direct tbh. Back in May, when early rumblings of Nintendo having limited direct/software announcements over the summer started to surface, I was guessing that they might be holding things back to show in conjunction with new hardware. This thing being another mini/partner would very much track with them continuing to be in a bit of a holding pattern until they are ready to talk hardware.
Yea, I agree. I think it's pretty clear they are in a holding pattern right now.

That said, there's still no sign of a new 2D Zelda or a new 2D Mario on the Switch - both are very much due. You'd think they wouldn't be as dependent on a potential boost in power that new hardware/revision would provide and could go ahead on current Switch. So perhaps there are significant announcements to come.

I think BotW2 will still come before hardware - Nintendo may have DLC planned for further down the road, they may have an all new 3D Zelda lined up for later in the new Hardware lifecycle... I mean, what happened to the OOT remake rumours? That's pretty much the perfect launch title for a hardware revision as it targets that core market that would buy into it.

No doubt in my mind that Nintendo are having to chop and change their plans. I would not be at all surprised if they are being even more cautious (if that's possible?!) after the Wii to Wii U debacle. Switch to whatever is next will be a worry for them.

If this direct is a mini and doesn’t reveal a new first party 2023 game…

Then we will go into January 2023 knowing only BotW2 for a vague Spring 2023 date.

I don’t think we’ve ever known THAT little about a year going into it.
This Mini Direct could always reveal a couple of ports or a single brand new title (2018 had Mario Tennis and 2020 had Clubhouse Games).

Hello, this is my first time commenting in this forum but I'm a long time sideline watcher, since the era of 3D All Star rumours.

This general Direct waiting period since February is being so wild that I just have to join to the collective hysteria

Welcome!

It’s a stretch but I think Fire Emblem could be that, given how confident Emily seems to be that we should see it soon.

I don’t think a first party game of that caliber has ever been revealed in a mini, but there’s a first time for everything I suppose.

For me the important thing is that I can play Prime 4 and Botw 2 on Swicth

They were announced for Switch, there's no way Nintendo won't release them on the console they were announced for. This is especially important in the age of not being able to get new hardware months and years into it's lifecycle.

I think any big reveal is possible for a Mini, but there can only be one. Anything more and they'd call it a General.

Nintendo will probably do the big presentation in January then if we get this scenario

I'm too lazy to go dig out that post but I remember someone in the Future Hardware thread showing quite thoroughly that they've announced new hardware before a holiday season with little to no adverse effect to their hardware sales. Could be another of those cases. 🤞

The duality of this thread:

  • It's a Zelda Blowout, with the BotW 2 title, Metroid Prime 1 Remake, Zelda HD ports and maybe more!
  • It's also a Mini!

Look. I'm not a mystic and can't predict the future or Nintendo, but i think that in the case of this Direct really featuring BotW 2, more Zelda games, Metroid and F-Zero, there's like ... 0.0000000001% chance that it would run under the "Mini" naming.

Bro I just got a Steam Deck, not as a replacement of a Switch but financially speaking I would like them to chill on a new console 😭

can someone post a screenshot of the fatal frame tease from snitch's discord?
I’m not sure what the rules are with sharing things form the server but the hint they posted was:

Hidden content is only available for registered users. Sharing it outside of Famiboards is subject to moderation.

Fatal Frame 4 along side with Prime and Zelda will allo fit the remastered interest of Nintendo

I mean Fatl Frame 4 was a joint production right?
So was Fatal Frame 5, Nintendo "allowed" Koei Tecmo to publish the remaster themselves.

Yeah same if there even just Metroid, Zelda and Fire Emblem,

I mean TGS is going to have a lot of third party stuff to use for the direct

I agree.
Tbh if it’s a mini, I expect Metroid Prime Remake as the big announcement and nothing else…

I think if it's a mini there has to be a reason. I mean, have they ever done a mini instead of a general before TGS? It's an absurd idea that might become a reality. And if it does, surely it's because of new hardware? All we officially know about Nintendo's 2023 is BOTW2 + MarioKart & Splatoon 3 content.

Also, if this is about the ... dunno ... positioning(?) of the Direct, i do think to remember that general Directs not always aired late evening in Europe, so a early morning US positioned Direct must not automatically mean it's something other than a general one.

I guess the port of 5 did okay if they are bothering to port 4, which i think would require a bit more of tinkering due to the control scheme.

Awesome news, i would have never dared to hope for it.

Zangeki no reginleiv next thank you Nintendo

Did anyone actually say that BotW2 will be there? We only know that the Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD ports and the Metroid Prime remaster/remake are supposed to be in the Direct and these can very well be announced in a Mini Direct.

Just catched up and I saw the time framing being early PDT.

I recall that we have had general directs quite often that were around 15:00/16:00 CEST we also had directs that were around midnight so I yeah :p

Another question I have is what does Emily mean by "early morning?" 9am PDT is a bit of a stretch but could be considered early, and that's when E3 Directs are. Meanwhile, 6am is when the minis/dedicated directs are. I could still see them doing a general at 6am because they did it for the Splatoon direct which was a big deal, so it's not like they care of Western Americans' sleep schedules or something

There have been many times in Switch's life where we went into a new year barely knowing the lineup of said year.

Going into 2023 only knowing about BotW2 is far from impossible.

Mini Material:
  • Windwaker HD and Twilight Princess HD
  • Fatal Frame 4
  • Skyrim Anniversary Edition
  • Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass Wave 3
  • It Takes Two
  • Alan Wake
  • Metroid Prime Remake
I could live with this tbh. Also another Persona 5 Royal trailer probably.

Snitch having access to anything is worrying. He does not have inside info, he is just able to get YouTube trailers.

They got that Brushperson .... i forgot the name ... who was leaking everything from early YT access, eventually got caught.

I think it's just a matter of time until the same happens for Snitch.

Page 696 now nice, let's see where it is when I'm back from work. Guessing 725-730 or something

I don't understand what it's based on, nintendo's communication is unpredictable, we don't know what they have in mind and it's possible that in 5 hours they'll announce a direct general...
