I've got an interesting fortnight ahead - Splatoon 3 and my NRL team playing for their Finals chances on Friday, meeting a childhood friend on Sunday, a new student to tutor on Monday and a long awaited character release in FGO on the 12-13th and possibly a Direct around that time as well. The time feels like it's flying.

I haven't answered the first round of questions yet for the thread game so here we go!

Question 1 Favorite Multiplayer Game Or Memory?

Hmm...lot of great choices here. I probably most value co-op with friends, so I think I'm going to say Perfect Dark. I've ran through the campaign levels with friends so many times and on top of that it had the awesome challenge mode against bots on the multiplayer maps. What was super cool about it was that it tracked beating each of the 30 challenges separately for single player and groups of 2, 3, and 4. The most infamous challenges are seared into memory lol.

For a favorite memory, it's always going to be playing a game with my best friend until we finished it together at like the crack of dawn. The one that stands out the most right now would be playing Box Boy and Box Girl together a few years ago. I had literally beat it with my other best friend the day prior and here we were doing it again. The scoring system only unlocks on the second playthrough and we decided we'd be both S rank and get the fastest time on every level. Box Boy is usually super chill and casual, but we turned it into this mad sprint to the finish using as few boxes as efficiently as possible. It was super fun!

Question 2 What Animal Game Do You Want To See Next?

When I came up with this question I feel like I had some good ideas, but I forgot them all lol. So I started thinking my favorite animals are turtles and I have no idea what a turtle game would be or what I'd want from it. If it was a sea turtle maybe you travel along the currents underwater and visit coral reefs around the world maybe? Or maybe it's a turtle that lives in lakes and rivers and you can slowly explore a forest or something. Not really sure where to take this one lol.

...

I actually waited to answer these because I wanted to upload a pizza pic too! This is from my favorite local place, I ordered it yesterday and it was super scrumptious:

Excited I still have the other half for leftovers tomorrow!

Question 1: What is your favorite multiplayer game and/or memory?
Not really much of a multiplayer guy myself, but I have very fond memories of playing Bloodborne and DS3 in coop with a friend. Sessions were a pain to set up in the former, and we sometimes had to sit around and wait for the system to finally pair us for 5-10 minutes, which was especially agonising on repeated boss attempts, but we prevailed anyway. Fondest memories are from our Old Hunters DLC playthrough.

Question 2: Animal themed games are becoming more and more popular. We had Untitled Goose Game a few years ago and this month we have Stray releasing physically and of course Splatoon 3, a very scientifically accurate Squid experience. What animal themed game do you want to see next and what does it roughly look like if you were to design it?
No idea. Untitled Bird Game where you get to shit on everybody's wind screen might provide a cathartic experience.

He lives!

Hey, @hologram! Let me tell you... when it rains, it pours.

But reading about some potential Zelda and Donkey Kong news in a direct is nice. I'll try to be more active when the direct is announced, but I'm otherwise trying to keep a low profile and enjoy the little things.
Like Elden Ring, which holy crap is the best game I've played since Red Dead II and BOTW. So good.

Looks like myself and the baby also have COVID. Lovely.

Ugh. Sorry to hear this, @Skittzo. Hope you all quickly recover.

What is this water coming from the sky? Haven't seen that in forever it feels like.
We're getting 1.5" over the next 24 hours, so naturally flash flood warnings in my area

And since I have time this morning, I should probably answer those prompts finally 😅

Question 1: What is your favorite multiplayer game and/or memory?
I would probably say at this point, Mario Kart is probably my favorite. There's many other multiplayer games out there, and I've flitted between many of them, but Mario Kart is the one series that's I've always stuck with since the early 90's when I used to play it regularly with my younger sister. We still do in fact, as when I visit her I will often bring the Switch and Mario Kart for a throwdown with either the OG in the NSO app or MK8D.

Close runner up would be Unreal Tournament on PC. I had all but sworn off FPS games in the late 90's after losing interest in Doom/Quake. When I got to college a guy on my floor introduced me to UT and it instantly grabbed me with the interesting weapons, colorful levels (a big selling point when my previous experience in the genre were id's shooters!), and most importantly the mutator system which allowed for all sort of crazy tweaks to the game play. Needless to say I got hooked pretty hard and pretty much spent the next 4-5 years playing little more than Unreal Tournament, UT2003/2004, and the original Unreal often on the school LAN and then later with a regular forum community on weekends when school was over and people's interests waned.

I have absolutely no really good ideas for this. I'm not much of animal mascot gamer.

:( Sorry man, I hope it clears quickly for you and the little one 🤞

Good Morning ~
I promise I won't take the bait to discuss extended casts of my favorite mascot franchises with people already up arms to hate them blindly without any concern of how that affect their fans. I already did that on Era, not going to do this time around :coffee:

Aww man, that’s awful. Hope you two get better soon, and it doesn’t spread to the rest of the Skittzo family!

Didn’t you deal with a round of covid recently? Or maybe I’m thinking of somebody else..

My older kid tested positive a few days ago, so I'm sure she just spread it to the rest of us. Somehow my wife is still negative but she's got that teacher immune system.

Wish I didn’t feel as negative about it as I do but man Splatoon 2’s campaign is such a slog. I’m so done with it by the last world but I’m pushing myself so I can see the dlc and get ready for 3. I already know it won’t be worth it but I’m this far into it I might as well finish it.

(Edit) final boss was good at least, as were most of the bosses in general.

....are you referring to my hate for Shadow the Hedgehog?

shit pall wishing you a swift and safe recovery, and as full a recovery as you can get by COVID rules

Yesterday I was playing Splatoon 2, I decided to try the N-Zap 85 and I suddenly discovered I'd become good at Splatoon. It was amazing. I thought I was a roller-only player because I've always been so bad at targeting other players, but with the N-Zap I was splatting everyone. This game has been in the house since March.

On another topic, has there ever been a 2-player Donkey Kong game where one person controls DK (sending barrels etc) and the other controls Mario?

It's not really what you're looking for but I think the closest they've come was a Donkey Kong 3 Game & Watch unit that allowed one player to control Stanley while the other controlled DK

I've been playing Made in Abyss on Switch lately and that artsyle... strikingly similar. I know it from somewhere for sure. Just checked the history of the mangaka and yep, he was the main designer for Wii game Elebits and its DS sequel. Great Konami games, both of them.

In just one intersection, I saw a Three Percenters decal, a bumper sticker that said "Fuck Joe Biden and Fuck You for Voting For Him," and a hand-painted blood-red sign calling our congressional representative a traitor (which was put out after he voted against Trump on one thing).

I gotta get out of this goddamn place.

Yikes

Have you considered fire?

Come to my neck of the woods, the worst thing about us here is that we don't think 3D Sonic has ever been very good.

I just looked up 3 percenters since I never heard of damn. Goddamn, these 3 percenters are sick AF...

I'm in California so fire's not a thing I even have to consider, it simply is. 🤣😭

If you have actual woods then that sounds fantastic to me
and I'll overlook the sonic slander 😉

yyyyyyyyep
And I've seen their logo/flag around here more than once.

What's even better than handhelds: handhelds that can be docked/hooked up to a monitor/TV! Handheld hardware with the ability to output audio-video information to a bigger screen if one wants to do so (aka, a hybrid console/PC) is the future, in my eyes at least. Compared to that, more traditional hardware designs, but pure home consoles especially, feel archaic and like something not really fitting for today's lifestyle; well, for my lifestyle, at least.
True, very true. To be honest pure home consoles have never fitted well in my life even when I was young. My parents had a rule that I could only play games on the weekends as long as my grades were Bs or higher and even then we were rarely home during those times. Growing up with asthma prevented me from doing extracurricular activities with other kids so my parents opted to take me to festivals and events rather then have me stay home. This meant long car trips so I would have a bag with a book, notebook, and my Game Gear (later GBC) to keep me occupied which is a habit I still keep even now.

I've seen some reviews and gameplay and it looks a bit janky. How does it handle?

Btw I feel that the marketing of this game was a bit unclear because I assumed the "story" mode was Ringo's journey till the end of the first season of the anime, but its not.

I was browsing the eShop just minding my own business when all of a sudden my finger slipped and BAM Splatoon 3 was pre-ordered and downloading. Nintendo really needs to iron out these UI bugs.
So anti-consumer of them, smh my head

Wish this bug happened to me, but it seem that it requires 60$ on the account to happen

I once walked into a multimedia store and they flat out refused to let me go without a copy of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

I made a topic on it some time ago and everyone sort of turned their noses up at the idea (which bewildered me since I ended with the impression fans like paying more and don't like permanent discounts on new games?) but I'd still like to see some Nintendo Selects for Switch even if they're more from the earlier part of the systems life.

I don't think it's that people don't want them, it's more that we're in the Switch's 6th year and there's no sign of them making a new Selects line.

I like rereleases like this, but on the toher hand I hate how most of them butcher the cover art.
