Started Firewatch in the backlog; apparently I bought it back in June 2020 and this is my first time starting it up. Christ this intro is heavy, fuck me.

Was sitting here feeding my baby, thinking about Pac-Pooch from Pac-Man, as one does.

Then I somehow transitioned to thinking about Poochyena and realized the name was a portmanteau of “pooch” and “hyena”. Honestly blew my mind. How can I be so dumb?
...well TIL

I forgot how fast direct threads can move when there's breadcrumbs. In this case it's more like finger sandwiches but as someone who has had a ton of (mandatory) family time this weekend I can't even begin to keep up.

I'm guessing it's just wishlists at this point right?

Important edit: my dog just ate a bug then looked around for it frantically cause he didn't realize he ate it.

AFAIK the latest info is just that DK has a 50/50 shot to be there, and it's likely to be on the 13th/14th. Probably 13th announced on the 12th. Although I don't think this week has been 100% ruled out either, it's just much more likely to be by the 14th.

I'm so glad I took a mini gamble on Mercenaries Saga Chronicles. Chronically Underrated more like. 20 hours in and while the story is light on details it is easy to follow and means you don't get bogged down in endless poorly translated dialogue. You just get stuck into some excellent tactical battles and enjoy upgrading your little band of warriors.

It's far more polished and engaging than its Metacritic score might have you believe. Has given me confidence in trying more less well-received games of genres I enjoy most.

This makes me feel much better! My brother was also thrown for a loop. Stupid sexy TPC.

I watched Lightyear on Disney+. It was alright. Wasn't the Buzz Lightyear story I was expecting. I thought it would be more of a space adventure and it wasn't that.

I’m just a horse
I want a bale of hay
I don’t know what a phone is
I don’t know what a loan is

Let me give you some advice. Next time you are in the market for a laptop, don't cheap out and get the lowest available model. You will be paying for it within a few years.
I have never hated a piece of kit as much as my cheap (~900 USD) hp laptop, and I've had an entry tier android phone

the hp sucked ass right out of the box

Few years? It usually happens within months. Then the customer service tells me the problem isn't covered by the warranty and I need to buy a new one. Then I tell them I will but from another company.

I got a $350 Acer and now I'm very nervous.

Glad I'm keeping all of my active development files on an external SSD.

Just watched Lightyear. It was super cool. Donno why people seemed to hate it. It’s not a perfect movie, but it was a ton of fun. Chris Evans is a great Buzz Lightyear.

Probably a combination of nostalgia (though I thought Evans sounded enough like Tim Allen to not be too different) and stupid politicization (Tim Allen being conservative and thus Disney blackballing him or the same sex kiss). Both of those things are completely idiotic to get up in arms about (Tim Allen because he was recently buzz when Disney knew his politics and anyone getting mad at any same sex kissing is just bigoted), but here we are.

I liked it as well, and so did my kids. Son was really into it.

I remember going to a Best Buy last time I needed a new laptop (2-3 years ago?) and being completely astonished that some of them didn't even have a 1080p screen. Like... on a 15"ish screen laptop. In 2019.

Hey, it's a tough life for a bigot. Women kissing each other in movies (and not just in the lesbian porn you are secretly watching behind your wife's back). Getting dunked on my green muscular lawyers. And now, there are black elves and hobbits. Is nothing sacred anymore?

I hate how when the power goes out/flickers my PS5 has a complete freak out and has to start “repairing“ stuff.

Just another reason why handhelds are objectively better.

Big same. Like, aren't you supposed to leave the console in rest mode so it can do background updates and all that? And yet if my power blinks out for a split second, it has to 'repair' now

Mine does an improper shutdown every night when in test mode. Had to disable it completely which sucks for controller charging. But don’t want to risk corrupting the files.

I remember the summer days nervously looking for a save point in a game before a thunderstorm hit. With the Switch, if the power goes out, it just switches to handheld mode. Although if the power switches back on, the resolution on the TV is all fucked up so I end up having to put the Switch into sleep mode and then turning it back on to fix it.

A guy I went to high school with is my local newspaper's "entertainment columnist," and he wrote a review for She-Hulk this weekend that read like an audition for Tucker Carlson.

That's actually why I worked so hard on that Samus photoshop last night. I was so bothered by it all afternoon that when I saw what @MisterSpo said I was just like "yeah I need to focus on something else for a while." 😅

Finally righted a wrong in my library and picked up Mega Man X Legacy Collection. Anyone remember which games have bad input lag? I tried X and X4 and they play perfectly fine as best I can tell.

I think X1 had input lag from what I remember. I tried it out on both the Switch and SNES Classic and I found the Classic one to control noticeably better. But it's been a while since I played.

Interesting. I mucked around in the opening stage and it didn’t feel off to me. But the last time I played it was on the PS2 collection which I’m sure also had some lag then.

The SNES games were supposed to be the laggy games. I don’t have as much sensitivity I guess, so I thought they were fine.

Thinking of getting Splatoon 2 to take advantage of Oct expansion dlc with my expansion pak membership but 2 is still 60$. Is it worth it just for single player and octo expansion?

Oh wow how long to beat says single player and dlc is around 8 hrs each? https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=54689

Yeah, the Octo Expansion genuinely felt like the "real" campaign to me. It had XB Torna levels of "why wasn't this part of the main game????" vibes.
Octo is an all time greats single player campaign from Nintendo in my book and has one the best final boss stages they have ever conceived. But maybe wait until impressions of 3’s single player come out since it’s supposed to be pretty similar.

I ended up just buying it from walmart since it was $50 lol

I'm really bored and work hasn't given me anything to do so I'm just gonna play this during work lol

Fun fact: Torna was meant to be in the main game but they ran out of time. I think it was meant to be after chapter 7.
Yep! They even reused some animations/camera angles during parts of Torna that were simple flashbacks in the main game. 😅

I don't think Torna would have worked well if it was slotted into the main game. It would have completely interrupted the flow of the main story. It was better served as DLC where they could expand upon the scenario and change up some of the game systems to make it a more unique experience.

As it was released, I kinda agree. But I suspect it was a much smaller, shorter experience as originally planned that likely wouldn't have been too much of an interruption.

I'm hoping 3's story expansion is the same thing. Stuff they wanted to fit into the main story but couldn't to their satisfaction, then given the time and resources to make a whole other blowout experience.

Just had one of those classes that make all the challenging times worth it.

This one quiet kid volunteered to give a talk to the class, and told us about how for a long time he hated himself and his autism, but that now he is starting to see the good things about himself.

What made it even more precious as how lovely and supportive the other kids were, like piping up that "yeah, you're really good at basketball too!"

I'm so proud of him, and all of them, and it has made my whole week already.

I see no lie there, handhelds are better. Especially when you have responsibilities and little time to spend sitting at home and playing on stationary consoles.

Yeah I liked it too.Though the first 40 minutes or so are really strong but then I fell like they didn‘t know where to go with that story. They should just had made a short film for Disney+ and it could have been one of the best Pixar films I imagine.

What's even better than handhelds: handhelds that can be docked/hooked up to a monitor/TV! Handheld hardware with the ability to output audio-video information to a bigger screen if one wants to do so (aka, a hybrid console/PC) is the future, in my eyes at least. Compared to that, more traditional hardware designs, but pure home consoles especially, feel archaic and like something not really fitting for today's lifestyle; well, for my lifestyle, at least.

Returning to the Mass Effect 2 remaster. I did the suicide mission a couple of months ago, but still had the Overlord, Shadow Broker, Firewalker and Arrival DLCs to do.

Doing Overlord today and Shadow Broker probably next weekend. Cba with the other two.

Shadow Broker is my Favourite DLC for a story driven game ever....until maybe Octo expansion.
The pacing of that episode is the modern Bioware at it´s best! Enjoy!!!

Feeling mixed about the Cowabunga collection. On the one hand, having the GB games (especially 2, the game that probably started me off with gaming) has gotten me out of my rut and back into playing games. In the other hand, I tried playing online yesterday and it was impossible. I managed to get a game and, while there were only 2 of us, it was fine. The moment the third player came along everything went to sh*t. Really disappointing, it would've been great to play the arcade games online, especially considering my gf isn't into beat'em'ups and won't be able to play locally.
