So can we talk about Zelda just for change?

So if the Zelda WW HD & Zelda TP HD are really coming to Switch... what kind changes or QOL improvement could they add or will id be a 1 to port of teh wii version?
I would really hope they reconfigure Wind Waker to let the Tingle Bottles still function in a Miivere-less world, just like they did with Splatoon.

Replace the Miiverse Stamps in TPHD with Switch Zelda profile icons.

Outside of those things, I doubt they do anything at all to modernize it. I doubt 60fps is on the table.

I don't think Adventures was disappointing. I got it and Metroid Prime with my Gamecube for Christmas in 2002 and loved the hell out of both of them. I also wasn't an N64 kid, so I didn't have this strong attachment to Rare or Star Fox 64 that a lot of people had. Sure, I played some of those games (especially Goldeneye) at friend's houses, but I was a Playstation owner primarily. Adventures was also called a Zelda clone, but at the time it was the only Ocarina of Time-style game I can think of (Wind Waker came out afterwards), so I was fine with it scratching that Zelda itch in the meantime. The team that made it was also effectively a B-Team at Rare made up of younger inexperienced staffers (asides from Bayliis and Wise), from what I recall.
Coming from the N64 and following the development of Dinosaur Planet (as much as it was possible back then, when most of us got our news from gaming magazines) it was impossible to look at Star Fox Adventures and not feel like the game didn't come anywhere close to what was promised. Dinosaur Planet was supposed to be this massive adventure and then turned out to be about as long as the average 2D Zelda. It was extra painful for me as a Star Fox fan because the new mainline entry had practically nothing to do with the previous games. Which is just game development sometimes but that doesn't make it any less disappointing.

It'll be a 1-1 port of both. All major QoL changes were implemented in the original remaster and if the Wii U couldn't do 60FPS for Windwaker I doubt the Switch can.

I'd expect the games to be functionally the same, sadly, though there surely are things Nintendo could do. One thing I think will get added is amiibo functionality for Wind Waker; I expect we'll get more Zelda amiibo making their way to stores ahead of the ports and the new Zelda, too.

Now, in terms of what I'd like them to add, here's my personal, pie in the sky wishlist:

  • 60 fps in both games. It was lovely in Skyward Sword, and it would be good to have here.
  • instrumental/orchestrated soundtracks. Again, while Skyward Sword had orchestrated music from the off, it makes a big difference in the quality of the sound and it's another area where these remasters will feel a little basic.
  • and here's the real, complete, never ever ever happening desire: bonus content if the games are sold individually. Package Tetra's Trackers with Wind Waker, and package Link's Crossbow Training with Twilight Princess. I'm serious. Zelda oddities are going to get stuck in the past (looking at you, Tingle games), so I'd like these to be rescued.

As it is, though, I'd expect basic ports of the existing HD versions; especially if this is a double pack.

It can’t be a truly 1:1 port of either, since there are Wii U specific features like GamePad and Miiverse stuff that would have to be removed or changed.

Also, I was under the impression that one of the reasons why bumping the games up to 60fps may be an issue is due to certain animations being specifically made for 30fps, so it may not even be a matter of hardware limitations—after all, Skyward Sword was bumped up to 60fps on Switch. But I could be mistaken about the animations thing.

Windwaker HD had major frame drops in a few places, and that was from 30FPS. I can't even begin to imagine 60.

For TP and WW I do hope that they implement something similar to Skyward Sword's 'weapon wheel.' It'll still be a downgrade compared to the Wii U's second screen experience, but much less so than if they went back to using separate menus.

The problem is, what happens to the Wolf Link amiibo-exclusive Cave of Shadows? Does that get cut out, unlocked and available from the start? Do they reprint the Wolf Link amiibo?
And as for the 50 Miiverse stamps you can collect in the game? Do they get cut out as well, or can you collect them without use?

There's some things needing changes that gives me hope for like, 60FPS or something.

Package in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks you cowards!

TWWHD maybe not, sure, but that one also had a lot more improvements made to the visuals than either TPHD or SSHD did.

I guess, but it doesn't bother me. I actually loved Rare's take on Fox in Adventures, and it's my favorite portrayal of him. He's much more of a merc or scoundrel who goes through a change of heart as the game goes on. He has an arc. It's not Shakespeare, but it's not like Nintendo was known for their robust characterizations back then either. I think a narrative has formed over time as well about Dinosaur Planet being some mystical amazing gem that was stolen from us and watered down by force to be a Star Fox game, when it was way more complex than that, as the developers have cleared up with recent interviews. While the N64 version has some neat stuff (especially the character swapping which was dropped probably because of time constraints for the Gamecube version), it likely would've still ended up a rushed and trimmed down game, and would've possibly been mostly looked over after the Microsoft buyout and become more of a neat curiosity than anything else.

It is what it is and there's no going back and changing it, but Nintendo could possibly hire a third party to do a remake that re-incorporates a lot of those missing features. Maybe Playtonic could do it, since they're made up of old Rare devs. Or even Ember Lab. I thought Kena was a lot like what an updated Adventures could play like.

That's fine, I didn't mean to convince you to agree with Star Fox Adventures being a disappointment.

This confirms they are better

than raccoons? yeah, I'd say so. they're a lot less meddlesome in people's lives lol

having a tanuki in your house is a very different experience than having a raccoon in your house

This isnt how you re supposed to react y know

sorry I didn't realize

Not QoL, but adding voice acting for main characters in TP and WW and the option could be toggled on/off. This would be a sweet addition, now that Zelda games are voice acted.

A voice acted Zant could be a good addition to the character.

It's one of the only amiibo I've ever wanted, so uh

Please

Do I believe that the direct will be on Sept 13 now? Yes. Does that stop me from hoping for an announcement on Tuesday for a direct this week? No lolol it would be a fun surprise and after how my last week was at work, a direct this week would be nice lol

I wanted them to do that for Skyward Sword because that game has borderline Pokémon SwSh syndrome with missing voice acting but alas...

Regarding the possibility of new or reprinted amiibo releases alongside TWWHD and TPHD…I wonder if we may finally see the unreleased TWW amiibo. The ID for it falls between Toon Link - The Wind Waker and Zelda - The Wind Waker, so my guess is that it was supposed to be a Tetra amiibo, though it could also have potentially been Tingle or Ganondorf.

Yeah, all those remasters, DK and BOTW 2 news would make this my favorite Direct for a very long time, even surpassing Feb22. I‘m hesitant with DK though.

I'd make one but I'd be nervous to do it. I also know there was someone who expressed interest in making one a while back and I don't want to steal anyone's thunder.
That might have been @Aurc. He runs the Metroid Dread ST. I think there’s a place for an official Metroid series ST, although if Prime does release soon, that will undoubtedly get an ST of its own.

The only things I care about in the Sept Direct is if FE17 and GBA expansion for NSO will be there :>

Played a bit of Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak after having ignored it at launch.

It's really a technical achievement - I wish Capcomdid something more with the RE Engine on Switch - just to see what they can do with it.
I'd take a new Capcom game - Even if I'm not really a RE fan, that rumored game would be cool to see, if it's true.

110% would buy Tingle amiibo. I keep thinking about getting the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo. I like them as collectibles, but dislike encouraging their very limited functionality, so I tend to buy either second hand or well after release if stock allows.

I do have the wolf Link amiibo. Wii U games were cheap, even new, and I got the limited edition TP HD for the same price as a regular retail release.

I just need to know when I can give Nintendo my money for my copy of Wind Waker HD Deluxe, even better if they decide to throw in Twilight Princess for free.

Lol Don’t think Nintendo would do that anymore. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty impressive they were technically giving The Zelda Collector’s Edition on GameCube for free.
