The Medium really did a number on their reputation didn't it? I guess the fact that it wasn't a good game isn't as damning as the narrative message behind it.

I really did like Observer and thought Layers of Fear was at least kinda cool in terms of atmosphere.

So how about those Directs huh

Direct hype!

Bloober Team working on a game about going insane that blurs the lines between game and reality.

I can't think of anything that could possibly go wrong.

I'm positive that under Nintendo's management, Bloober team can deliver a great game......it wouldn't be the first time this happened.

Again, in terms of effects and visuals and atmosphere and stuff they can do that well....

If someone else writes the story I don't think it's necessarily going to be that bad.

Just wondering, why do people think the Direct will specifically be on the 13th? Directs are never on Tuesdays, are they? I'd say 14th at the earliest.

If it airs on the 14th in the west it'll be after TGS starts in Japan.

Can you imagine a new 2D Mario with a new art style (drop the new super mario title) with reimagined worlds (not the typical grass, desert, water, lava etc) ? Can you imagine new music that doesn’t recycle that outplayed “New Super Mario music”? It can still have those levels but take it to the next level! What I liked about odyssey was that it had some batshit crazy ideas ex. T-rex, taking over enemies, new donk city… what I am saying is you can still have those levels/ worlds but reinvent the wheel and do not play it safe and recycle the same ideas over and over (already done with previous entries). Nostalgia angle has already been done with recent entries.

For the first time in years, I'm not that hyped about a potential new Direct. And the rumours here and in other forums are not that exciting.

-F-Zero GX remaster? That's simply too good to be true, I don't believe it
-Metroid Prime HD? I love MP1 (and the entire trilogy), but I don't see how they can significantlly improve them to release only the first game a full price, of course graphics will be the answer but then the entire trilogy should be the way to go
-DK game? IDK, maybe the Mario Odyssey team has developed it and will be an amazing game, but after Tropical Freeze the expectations for a new DK game are kind of insane

I hope that the Direct has some big surprise that has not been leaked and that the whole show is amazing, but I'm not feeling confident

Time for my second unpopular opinion on this page: I hope they don't use a new artstyle. The NSMB artstyle is good. We just need some new gameplay ideas and more creative level design.

The only one of these that seems certain to be in the Direct is the Prime remaster. We don't really know if the other two exist, let alone whether they're set for announcement.

There's (almost?) always stuff we don't know about.

That is certainly a plus in it being a remake, but a biit concerned that Bloober have said things alluding to it being more of a reimagining from their perspective that they would never make a straight remake: '"If you are in a prison, you will not be able to fly. So that’s why we are trying to only [make] those titles in which we are feeling, ‘OK, it will be a Bloober Team game, not someone [else’s].' So even on the project we can’t talk [about], it will still be a Bloober Team title.”

ahhh that's why you said it's the default style, because you like it

man you could've just said that

my favorite example of a terrible camera will always be this

It's an interesting way of showing the differences between video games and film as visual mediums. In film, you usually want to follow photography standards of not having the subject in the center of the frame, but in video games, having your character in the center of the screen works much better for readability and intuitive controls.

I wish Nintendo would embrace some more 'hand-drawn' visual styles. Things like Punch Out and Wario Land looked fantastic on the Wii.

I'd love to see it with Zelda; an Adventure of Link remake that looks like the 80s promotional art, or a Four Swords Adventure remaster/remake that looks exactly like the art. Or the fabled 2D Mario with Kotabe visuals.

I think it depends on what you consider under the NSMB umbrella in terms of visual design. Are we just talking about the character models and designs? The general assets? World themes?

How far you stretch out the umbrella probably dictates how much you like or dislike the style.

I haven't played Observer so I don't know if that's better but I found both Layers of Fear and The Medium pretty bad and I haven't seen anything in those games outside of the atmosphere that makes me think they could make a good Eternal Darkness game. A remake, perhaps, as long it's as faithful as possible (we'll have to see how they do with Silent Hill 2). But more than that I feel like I'd rather just not want Nintendo to work with a developer that keeps mishandling mental illness in their games like Bloober do.

Ah yeah then that's cause for concern.

As for GameCube remasters: give me Ice Age 2 and Shrek 2. While licensed IP games often have a reputation of being bad, these are certainly among the greats.
