It can't be a Gamecube renaissance unless Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 make it to the Switch.
Man don't get me started... It annoys me to hell to see how slow Capcom is when remastering their legacy games. Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, Onimusha, Haunting Grounds, the whole Breath of Fire series... gathering dust in the Capcom headquarters attic.

I definitely think TTYD has the best shot at a remaster/remake outside of mainline Zelda, Mario, and the Prime Trilogy. Sounds like F-Zero is in the works too, but TTYD was almost in the top 10 highest-selling GCN games, is a critical darling, and the franchise is still very healthy.

Counterpoint: I don't know if I want Capcom touching Viewtiful Joe, unless there was a serious plan to actually finally make that third game. Call up Kamiya and P*, let's make it happen.

I know it is an incredibly unlikely pick but if Pikmin 2 ever got a remake I might cry.
I actually don’t think that’s THAT unlikely. I actually think they could remake Pikmin 1+2 in the Pikmin 3 engine, and add multiplayer co-op to 2.

Honestly... I would say it's Nintendo's fault alone that Mario wasn't appealing that gen. They chose to follow up Mario 64 with... a game set entirely on a tropical island where the main new gimmick is... stopping in your tracks to spray water everywhere? One with a story in which Mario does... community service? It's such a weird direction to take the series in and I can see why people looked at it and just didn't get that hyped.

This is a grown adults take of the game 20 years later when in reality most kids/gamers who wanted a new Mario were like ¨Cool you get to blast water at enemies and hover around with it like a jetpack on a huge island!¨

There just weren´t nearly enough people who cared about the next Mario in any fashion, even as Super Mario 128 I bet, with how games at the time were. Even Jak and Daxter became a dark and gritty Jak II with the sequel with GTA elements.

Nintendo is focused on remastering (or remaking) games that people keep asking for. Nintendo pays attention to social media and message boards.

Is there any chance for Eternal Darkness? It was my favorite first party GCN release after Metroid Prime. Certainly they must know that now is the best time to give the IP another chance given how much more popular survivor horror has become since the original's release.

Not that Nintendo should be the only one remastering sixth generation games, it would be nice if others like Bandai Namco finally brought out the ultimate Soul Calibur 2 HD edition with all three guest characters available, or if EA (lol) brought back SSX Tricky.

I'd also be very fond of Worms 3D making a comeback (possibly?) and/or Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (RIP Midway)

If the Pikmin games ever get a remake I'd want Nintendo to wait until next generation at least to do them. Those games would absolutely shine with all the latest graphical techniques, at higher resolutions than 720p.

Why would you ask for SSX if you could as for 1080°?

Here’s my list of GameCube games I’d love to see remastered for the Switch plus the main thing I’d like them to add/change:

1) Pikmin 1+2 (add co-op to 2!)
2) F-Zero GX (make the AX content accessible without the need for an arcade machine)
3) Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door (big ask but make a whole side-game where we can experience the adventure Luigi gets up to on while TTYD is happening)
4) Kirby Air Ride (online play)
5) Star Fox Assault (online play)

Honestly I never heard of 1080° until the Wii and by that time I had already put many more hours of fond nostalgia into Tricky 😋

It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme
That's right on time it's TRICKAYYYY

There's a decent amount of 6th generation comes currently on the Switch right now. A surprising amount actually. There's the Resident Evil games, Devil May Cry, Jedi Knight series, KOTOR I and II, Sphynx, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy X and II, Super Monkey Ball, Okami, Onimusha 1. Those are the ones at the top of my head.

all this talk about ports
you know a port i'd be really pleasantly surprised/excited by?
SAMUS RETURNS

For a 3DS game it is not bad looking, and simple fan uprez/upscales already go a long way.
Put some official higher resolution textures on that thing, remap the lower screen's HUD to the main screen and let it loose. Day 1.

This is a 20 year old argument but... SSX is literally a perfect game. Especially 2nd and 3rd games. One of the best games that the gen 6 ever produced. While 1080 is a good game, it's nowhere near SSX levels.

tbh, I really worry about Nintendo remastering TTYD and scrubbing out all the grittiness/unique bits (imagine Twilight Town but all with Toads instead), don't have enough trust in that regard and I'd prefer a straight port if possible

Ha, jokes on the fanpeople of both series, i played neither! ;D

Also I mean obviously I also want to throw support for Custom Robo getting a port.

HD widescreen, maybe online four player battles, and that's all I need to be content.

Now a NEW entry that can make use of amiibo, different coloured Joycons, 8-player free for all battles...hoo wee that would be something else

Very valid points, though of those I only have memories of Super Monkey Ball and FFCC, and the latter I heard didn't do so well in reviews unless I'm much mistaken

I don't think they'd do that, it would just piss everyone off. More likely they don't remaster it at all.

So you're saying that Mario Sunshine's relative failure was just... completely unavoidable? I really, really don't see that as being the case.

Air Ride with online and the ability to play Coty Trial up to 99minutes would be the best for me. I will be honest though, I don't need Air ride or TTYD to get graphical upgrades really, a NSO version would do it for me. But hey, I'd also pay for the Remasters and not complain should they happen

To be honest I've been half on this train since the Fire Emblem rumours earlier this year. If it's the case that Intelligent Systems have worked with KT on a new mainline entry at the same time that IS are handling a Holy War remake themselves, I wondered what that meant for Paper Mario, and whether the series might get a less resource intensive remaster/port entry in 2024 rather than an all new game.

Can't remember who said Four Sword Adventures shouldn't be lost on GameCube but they're 100% correct.

This is the downside to Nintendo choosing remasters and remakes for now over emulation; a less comprehensive selection of games. Please, won't somebody think of Doshin the Giant?

Hmmmm, I really hope Nintendo wouldn't go through the effort of remastering/remaking the game just to deprive it of the reasons why people want the remaster in the first place. I know there have been some controversial remakes like MM 3D, but I don't think they've ever meaningfully altered the entire atmosphere and world of a game in a rerelease, have they?

Bowser's Inside Story got a 3DS remake with all the OCs and wackiness left intact. In fact, they even got to make a few new OCs for the Bowser Jr side mode, so I wouldn't worry about this

Ah, famous Super Smash Bros Melee trophy, Doshin the Giant. I remember him fondly.

These posts from Gartooth and Instro sum up the situation very well.

Also, Nintendo wants as many major IPs/franchises to be represented on Switch as possible. Even if that means remastering or porting old games to make it happen.
Interesting.

Star Fox, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, are the three big ones that don't have "modern" representation in that way. Most of the other bases are covered.

So that means...which Star Fox is heading to Switch? Would they do something like 64 3D? That's honestly the best Star Fox that exists, but 1, 2, and 64, are already on the console, so what's left are the GameCube ones, Zero, and Command. I honestly don't know which one Nintendo would be eager to port. Zero, if only because that interpretation of those characters is the current one being used for the brand as a whole. The Star Fox Zero versions were in both Starlink and Smash Bros.

Unless Nintendo isn't willing to play ball (which I don't find very likely) it's wild that this hasn't happened already; put the game on Switch, lean hard on the "Featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda™ series" selling point and watch it pull ludicrous numbers for a 20 year-old game.

Star Fox Zero-0, another reboot of the series, is my bet.

I’d actually go bonkers if they remake Kirby Air Ride and TTYD (I just got into Paper Mario 64).

Just finished Xenoblade 3 last night and now I am in that post beating a game stage where I don't know what to play next. Maybe the direct will have some shadow dropped game for me to pick up?

Honestly, mine too. But for as much as I like Zero on Wii U, is there enough meat on the bones to give it value without the GamePad controls? I think it has to get seriously overhauled and added to, even aside from the interface.
I was being facetious with the 00 joke, don't think they will actually reuse anything from Zero if they're in any way serious about the series tbh
Star Fox Double-Ought
Mobile-Suit-Gundam-00

someone put the heads of the star fox crew on this

First Party Games I'd love to see:

  • Eternal Darkness
  • Metroid Prime 2 & 3 (I'm assuming 1 is still getting the full remake treatment)
  • F-Zero GX
  • Baten Kaitos & it's prequel
  • Zelda 4 Swords (I'm assuming Wind Waker and Twilight Princess the Wii U ports)
  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
  • Pikmin 1 & 2

Third Party (assuming stuff like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy CC are off limits due to ports on the Switch already and no Tales of Symphonia because lol Bandai Namco):

  • Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
  • Beyond Good & Evil
  • Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2
  • Killer 7
  • Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
  • Soul Calibur II
  • Timesplitters 2
  • Skies of Arcadia Legends
  • Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II & III
  • Ikaruga

Hey, what if they made a Star Fox Musou and called... Lylat Warriors?! Huh? anybody? =D
I'd love if it they actually went in the direction of making it a "spiritual successor" to Gundam Musou. Transforming mecha wrecking shop and waging war all over space? Yes, please~!

TimeSplitters might actually have a half decent chance since Deep Silver spun up Free Radical Design back from the dead with the original founders at the helm, and with Doak and Ellis founding the studio originally after coming away from Rare with a distinct fondness for Nintendo, I imagine it's a matter if when, not if, TimeSplitters comes back with not only remasters but also a new entry

And as for Super Monkey Ball...
