Hard disagree, mario kart games are denoted by their mechanical changes or generational leaps in graphics

Mario Kart 64
  • 3D graphics
  • four player races
  • slipstream mechanic

Super Circuit
- portable (doesn't sound like much but it's.... a lot)

Double Dash
  • co-op LAN play
  • two player kart mechanic

DS
- online multiplayer (!)

Wii
  • updated drifting mechanic (worse imo)
  • 12-player races
  • motion controls

7
  • gliding and submersion mechanics
  • stereoscopic 3D (!)
  • first-person mode

8 / 8 Deluxe
  • 200c mode
  • HD graphics baby!!!!
  • anti-gravity
  • ATVs
  • uploading videos to YouTube
  • renegade roundup
  • introduced DLC for the first time

Tour
  • first Mario Kart on non-Nintendo devices
  • points-based system
  • Frenzy mode
  • gacha system

I think you missed a few relevant things here:

Double-Dash:
  • Kart Stats & Diversity
  • Bomb in Battle Mode
  • Special Items for Characters
  • "Punch" Move

DS:
  • Customizable Emblems
  • Mission Mode
  • Retro Courses from multiple games
  • Team Races
  • Bullet Bill
  • Blooper

Wii:
  • Tricks
  • Coins Revamp
  • Thunder Cloud
  • Pow Block

So we're into "not on the 1st, but could be next week still, but probably the week of the 12th?" territory, then? Not too surprising, although I really wonder when they'll do it the week of the 12th if so. Tuesday for more space pre-TGS? Or will they just do Wednesday and say screw it, reveals are happening down to the wire, good luck third parties?

Probably Tuesday before TGS

Guys, I have to confess something. Only for members of course.

If I’m being honest, Mario Kart has played mostly the same since MK Wii.
7's an odd one. Great courses all around, easy to go back to, but the additions feel more flashy than impactful. Gliders are a minor upgrade for what would otherwise be cannon segments, underwater segments feel too minor to be worth assessing. Assembling vehicles is at least inoffensive without a huge amount of options, and coins are a mildly interesting returning mechanic.

8 was kinda lame on release but it's been redeemed by 200cc. Mediocre courses are more fun, good courses are an interesting challenge, and the game's mechanics feel more relevant. At this point I mostly only play on lower speeds when it's with people I know.

Uhhh... did they just imply they've heard of a Kid Icarus port?

Edit: like, it didn't sound like speculation. It was when they were talking about projects they've heard Nintendo has coming soon.

Yeah, a lot of the previous stuff sounded like speculation, but they sounded a lot more confident with Kid Icarus.

Not gonna sound the alarm, because Grubb has dealt with people putting words in his mouth a lot, but that’s very much worth keeping an eye on.

Those Bandai Namco hiring calls were so obviously for Kid Icarus, but I don't think it's coming for the next year or so.

Yeah, I don't want to raise the alarm too much yet, but Jeff was in the middle of musing whether it would be a mini or General when Mike popped in and said something akin to "there's also that Kid Icarus port we heard about," which made Jeff realize how much Nintendo could show. He then said he felt it would be a General.

Was a weird moment.

Yep to all of this. I may be completely off the mark here, but if I had to bet, I'd say that Capcom is going to be the one third party developer to be all in on the Switch successor day 1. In 2017 and 2018, everyone was dunking on Capcom for misreading the Switch's sales potential, with even mainstream media asking them different variations of the question "So you messed this one up big time. Why did that happen and how are you going to fix it?"

I doubt they want a repeat of that one.
I would be very surprised if we didn't get both an exclusive RE and a new console exclusive Monster Hunter on the Switch lifespan (cross gen ofc).
Ports of everything year one of Drake is a given too.

It’s nice that they finally dispelled any remaining doubts surrounding the Zelda ports. They’re coming this year, and they’re coming soon.

Metroid to start the direct, Fire Emblem and NSO in the middle, Zelda at the end. Maybe a surprise or two as well. Sounds like a great direct to me.

It's just weird that Zelda ports are coming soon. Like early October? Then when does Prime HD come out if that's also this year? Is it gonna go up against Bayonetta or Pokemon or is it going to slide in like a week before Pokemon? Surely they wouldn't miss Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping.

Obviously you can flip what comes first; Metroid or the Zelda ports lol.

Nintendo’s shown that they’re willing to release stuff in December. I could easily see Metroid slotting into the first week there.
