Are we really really sure that the direct will happen in September and not like… this week?
I don’t know why. I have this feeling.

But I still believe that it will be next week

Yeah. FE 18 and the recent warriors were KT.

Its very interesting cause IS is one of the larger teams/partners for Nintendo, at 190 people, monolith being the biggest. So if they are using KT to work on FE 18 and the remake is internal (which I don't think will require their entire team), they might have another project in the works, maybe the next paper mario (since we got warioware last year)
Plus the first Warriors as well as Three Houses. KT will have made four FE titles for Switch by next year. Pretty insane output.

IS has made Origami King and assisted EPD with Wario Ware: GIT (which is not a massive undertaking), and they might be doing a FE remake. I guess we’ll see if they have anything else to show.

I know Tanabe was in charge of FF, but NLG still developed it and it was as bland as bland can be.
I think the issue was that tanabe was much more involved lol. Retro's games work great because they are the directors of their games, with tanabe being the one giving insight from nintendo themselves and suggestions. NLG doesnt seems to have that much control.

Gamescom starts Tuesday (11 hours from now) with Geoff’s show. Too much distraction.

! I haven’t thought about that. You are right.

Then I think next week is the safest bet, the week after is Splatoon week and then there is the TGS, so…
The next two weeks are definitely the most likely. I think the biggest question to decide it is will Indie World be before or after a Direct.

Timeline A
This Week Gamescom
Next Week Indie World
Splatoon Week Direct
Following Week TGS

Timeline B
This Week Gamescom
Next Week Direct
Splatoon Week Indie World Or Nothing
Following Week TGS

I still believe in Timeline A (the patterns timeline), but B in some ways makes more strategic sense by giving Splatoon less competition and Indie World more distance from the last event.

The Gamescom is only on Tuesday? Because in that case I can see an Indie World this week on Thursday tbh.
And a general next week

Gamescom runs multiple days. Like E3 the biggest news is upfront. Instead of a press conference or Direct-like video, its Geoff’s Opening Night.

Incidentally, I do think you could hypothetically have an Indie World early in TGS week if only because the audiences are different enough and TGS runs on the weekend.

I'm in this strange state where the hype is there, but it feels strange. Like, it's been so long since BotW2 was last shown, so the prospect of seeing it again in maybe 2 weeks all of a sudden feels overwhelmingly surreal.

For me I’m still playing Xenoblade 3 110 hours in and then Splatoon 3 is just around the corner with the splatfest demo this Saturday. I think when next week rolls around though I’ll be in full hype mode as it could be that week.

Since we are talking about it, Geoff just put out this tweet.

The revealed line up isn’t terribly exciting in my book, but it’s not bad either except for that gross HP game. Last year’s show was so poorly paced, I’m sleeping through this one and just watching the archive again where you can fast forward through the boring parts lol.

New IP from the Subnautica devs? Hell yeah!

MiHoYo must be paying Geoff a lot to be at his shows.

Going only by the games listed here, the only one that would interest me is Monkey Island.

But i'm not forcing myself through a Opening Night Live for one game. The first one where they showed off Death Stranding's "protagonist can pee" feature was enough for me for the rest of my life.

Regarding Saints Row, I really dislike when the last one ended on a cliffhanger and all the studio can do is a reboot ?

I mean you can totally change the characters and make a new story but at least acknowledge what happened before ; it’s not rocket science to put some exposition about « Previously in Saints Row The Third & IV : aliens, the Matrix, I need a hero and super heroes. Also, Boss is bisexual -he/she did it with the entire crew-, deal with it losers ».

It's hard to say. There are these recent interviews with Retro employees that state that Tanabe/Nintendo got to decide on the direction of the games. It's why they weren't allowed to go with the Bounty Hunting concept for Prime 3. Retro may have their own directors and stuff, but Prime 4 is going to heavily involve Sylux whether Retro wants to or not :p

I never said retro gets full control of the primes, althrough it may have looked that way. Ofc nintendo supervises them and makes demands that sometimes are good (miyamoto checking in retro) and in others nt so much (hypermode)

As for sylux, it goes like this. The better written he is, the less involvement nintendo had. They may ask retro to do something vague as in "this moment needs to happen" but they wont write him themselves lol.

Retro is the subsidiary that gets the most leeway from nintendo. From their name being dropped several times, how nintendo didnt give them the NST treatment after 6 years without doing shit, to the design of their own games.

You mention them not letting retro do the bounty hunter shit, i say that in not a single interview from kiwitalks was it mplied that the idea of mp3 going open world (by mark pacini) was shutdown by nintendo, and that is as far as it gets from your usual metroid shenanigans.

Id also point out that the fact retro is hiring so many cinematic people and fps guys (both areas nintendo have minimal if no experience) means nintendo will be even more laid back this time.

The "no one at Nintendo knows what a bounty hunter is" story always sat kind of weird with me because Sakamoto directly supervised the manga where Samus is in fact a bounty hunter for hire. She's even shown to be greedy, not only charging, but demanding more than her usual fee after stopping an assassination.

Maybe he just wasn't in the room for the MP3 bounty hunter pitch.

There's really no indication that Nintendo or Tanabe were more involved with the creation of Federation Force than usual. A quick look at the credits show a lot of similarities between NLG's or Retro's other projects, with EPD staff mostly in producer, project management and supervisory roles. Jason Carr who directed Federation Force was later credited on Luigi's Mansion 3 as design director. For some reason Tanabe has become somewhat of a scapegoat, being blamed for everything bad that happens and then ignored when a good game comes out under him.

I knew someone would say that and it is true. I shouod have said Nintendo in general instead of tanabe as i dont personally blame him for most of the shortcomings.

As for him being more involved, i just assume retro gets more leeway than the other subsidiaries as previously stated. But thats my opinion ofc.

That being said i also think some people have a trend of acting as if the subsidiaries are just contract work, which is even worse or at minimum equally as bad.

Today we are getting an indie world announcement for tomorrow, or the Metroid Prime Remake trailer, or Splatoon 3 Splatfest tweets, or Advance Wars release date trailer, or nothing. I will not be wrong!

YouTube recommending a video called "BOTW 2, METROID PRIME 4, PIKMIN 4 AND THE SEPTEMBER DIRECT"

how do I disable clickbait? Is it by howling into the void? Imma howl into the void.
Every time a new Direct comes out, the top recommended video for me is the 2019 Silksong trailer. It's just rubbing salt in the wound at this point

I have no answer for your question, but i just want to say that if you do find a solution, give me a shoutout for always believing in you when you're awarded a Nobel prize for it!

I finally gave in and clicked on a Blue Shell video, which of course won't help. I was curious just how disingenuous the thumbnail was.

The answer was pretty disingenuous.

The title was "A NEW Zelda release is coming in 2022? (Yes! Wind Waker and Twilight Princess!)". Of course, the video was just speculation about what could happen with multiple different possibilities with nothing to actually substantiate any of it, not even 4chan nonsense. But he was quite confident so obviously that justifies the certitude of the title.

Really, these people should think more carefully about what content they can bring to the table before starting a YT channel. Better than just starting one and then having nothing to say other than mindless repetition of baseless wishlisting.

So, in two days, it will be the 25th anniversary of Goldeneye (the game).

Can’t wait for the Intellivision amiico exclusive remaster.

Honestly when I see thumbnails and titles like that I just think “damn they sound like the Famiboards Direct Speculation Thread”

Not in a bad way, just that… it sounds like they read that thread and think “I could regurgitate this for ad revenue”

Isn’t Nintendo strangely silent today…?
It’s too early! Check again at 9 and/or 10 AM eastern!

I know that this would interest no one internationally, but it would be cool having a more European focus at the Gamescom Show. At least then it’d have some relevance as show for me. Otherwise this really just is Geoff Partner Direct August.

Back in the office from paternity leave just in time to pin the Direct speculation ahead of the It's Happening (TM) time... 👀

Isn’t Nintendo strangely silent today…?

My experience with the hype train is that Nintendo is strangely silent everyday of Direct season until it suddenly isn't.

If Nintendo is silent on a tuesday, it's because they're having a hangover from being silent on monday.
