StarTopic Xenoblade 3 |ST| Σ Become One

Ok, i just finished ch. 5....omg...my existence is not ready for this game.

I need to think a looong loong time to understand and process.

Im hyped, shattered, happy, sad at the same time....

I've never cried while playing a videogame as much as i was during that part

I also notice Ghondar does call her mother てめえ in Japanese. Do you think that's enough to justify the much more offensive localization

As mentioned, her dialogue is very rude based on the archetype they are using for the character, but at least for me it's more about her confidence and being rebellious against the authority, which to be fair can be associated with foul mouth, but then she is not stupid either. To put an example , based on her context I could see her calling a guard pig, but not motherfucker because of the consequences it could have to her mates. Same with the mother, because at least the impression in english to me is that she hates her completely, while in japanase is more "I don't care, I'm doing my way"

With that said I don't thing is a bad thing, it's just more of a case of "whoa, those subs definitely don't match the audio" thng

Good lord

I've finally explored every island in the Erythia Sea.

There are two areas where I can't go any deeper because of the outrageously high-level mobs, but I've at least visited each island, had them marked on the map, and now it no longer bothers me.

Now that I've spent days, literally days in the Erythia Sea, I'm moving on to the next area and that feels weird. With the trek to Swordmarch that was set out at the beginning finally complete, plus the bigass boss battles from the end of chapter 5 and the beginning of 6, it actually feels like that was the climax, in a way. The world map looks complete, too.

So it feels sorta like Nier Automata or DQXI, like I beat the game but there's somehow more for some reason. And my brain has almost been interpreting all the sidequesting I've been doing since the Agnus Castle events as something like postgame.

But now I'm moving on to the next area. So it's weird, I have no idea what else is in store from here on out.

wish me luck.

Thanks. It's just that I was surprised as well when I first switched to Japanese audio. Though my Japanese is still limited, I don't think Ghondar's manner of speaking is supposed to be as offensive in Japanese. Localization is interesting. I wonder what the thought process behind turning "thank you" in Japanese into "it's been fun" in English is. Sorry I'm probably going off topic here.

I haven't finished chapter 5, but the new area is gorgeous, fastastical and gigantic. I have a feeling the whole Wind Waker map would fit in lol.
It will take me another day of exploring until I can advance the main story.

Regarding the plot, I question the motivation of one of the side-characters (the girl that accompanies you and was a Ouroboros candidate) and judging by what people say of chapter 5's ending, I expect that to come into play there.

Well I’ve been on chapter 3 for about 25 hours now, just continuously exploring the world and I’m too busy playing the game to write about how great it is, but I will say it might be the best game on Switch and it might even be the best game I’ve played since the Mighty Xenoblade X came out.

I can't believe Irma just got Nia'd in front of everyone

Edit: Ok she had it coming

the final boss was amazing

I managed to deliver the final blow with a 320 tp ouroboros chain attack with 4.5M total damage

also neat little detail that I noticed: Noah's cornea shows the ouroboros symbol when initiating the chain attack

Xenoblade fans might have a hard time agreeing on a lot of things, but one thing I think we can agree on, is that one of the greatest character names in the history of the medium is Smoldering Cammuravi.

Wrapped up all the sidequests I could find and thrashed the final superboss. Bittersweet sense of finality to it all. Maybe I should've savored it a bit more, not put 135 hours into it in two and a half weeks lol

I'll write up some general thoughts on the game in the next couple of days in this thread and some more specific story impressions in the spoiler thread

I’m in what I believe is likely the final area and probably not too far off from the point of no return from what my partner (who has reached that point, but hasn’t played past it yet) has said. I got all of the main character Side Stories done, but I still have all the Hero Ascension Quests to do…plus a bunch of other quests. Any suggestions on what I should or shouldn’t do before progressing on with the end of the game’s story? (I assume it probably doesn’t matter much either way, but just in case…)

Fiona and Lanz have the most wholesome friendship in the Mu sidequests 😄 Love when she tells him off for yelling at the fish

I think unlocking leveling down in Chapter 5 or 6 would fix the fact that using Bonus Experience is a trap on all difficulties.

Now that the trilogy is over, I really hope they focus on a multiplayer title whether it's X2 with expanded multiplayer features or an MMO, I want to make a custom Xenoblade character and play with others so badly

I don't like mmo but won't mind if it's something Monster Hunter like.

Really hope the next game to be X2 or similar.

So after what I said about finishing up my quest binge and finally moving ahead with the story, and how weird it felt because of this feeling that I had already kinda beaten the game and couldn't imagine any more?

Well that didn't work. LOL

Almost immediately met with so many opportunities for new Heroes that I just went and did them all. And on top of that, exploring that snowy region led me to realize I was above the starting area, which was wild. Went to a cliff and saw Colony 9 far down below. Literally came full circle, absolutely wild. So I kept looking around that area, which led to a lovely lake, over which flew.. I assume this game's version of the Endbringer Telethia, a goddamn lv100 bird circling the loveliness. Absolutely breathtaking.

And then it aggroed me.

So I ran.

Fell off the side of the cliff of that lake area, and realized I was now upon the special place where Teach took me. So that's where the snowy region reconnects back around with the starting region.

This game is nuts.

Anyways, aside from freeing Miyabe I have not progressed any further in the story. But I did just realize something weird:
When I began playing this game I was all "Okay what's the connection? What's gonna be the rug-pull moment where they finally reveal why this world is a mish-mash of XB1 and XB2? What's the answers?" But now? I haven't thought about that in a while. This game, this world, these characters, stand so well on their own that I almost don't even care what the big shocker connection is, I just wanna see where this story with these people goes.

And I mean that as a compliment.

It’s weird how some cutscenes seem to be in-engine while others appear to be pre-rendered (because their clothes for the scene will just be whatever the ‘standard’ ones are instead of what you’ve picked for them).

Especially because the pre-rendered ones I notice it on most of the time are just the characters standing around talking, while there will be one with all sorts of crazy editing and angles and fights that is in-engine

So, how does the game expect me to know where to get those crafting materials for the gems? Because there isn't even a bestiary to know how the monsters look like or where they are...

Thanks for the threadmaeks here... Because it would be impossible otherwise.

I’m closing in on 90 hours now. Had fun exploring the sandbar in the sea tonight with the level 60+ monsters (well minus one spot I don’t know how to reach) and doing all of the ascension quests I’ve encountered so far (the main party minus Lanz). I expect the main party to have the best ones, but wow given the quality here I definitely want to figure out where the rest are before wrapping up the main story if possible.

Early Chapter 7 spoiler stuff including Sena’s Ascension quest:

I have all the Origin pieces now and need to hand them off to Mr. Samon. I’ll probably do that next since I have no idea where Lanz’ quest is. Wondering if I have to advance the story some more. I kept seeing that meme posted people made of a million yellow ? marks which I haven’t encountered yet so that must happen soon right? Where are they all?

I did really enjoy Sena’s even though the focus was on Ghondor and Shania. The latter I thought wouldn’t come back at all, but I’m glad she got one last run as a villain. She’s probably one of the better villains in the series for me at this point especially since she had some strong connections to the main party and Ghondor.

Since I was in the area for the quest, I finally took a peek at the Mechonis Sword. I knew it was still there when chapter 6 started, but was pleasantly surprised to find the obliterated part is now a level 88 dungeon. Best possible outcome here and now the weird blip of an area it was before makes more sense.

It boggles my mind that the ascension quests aren't part of the main plot. They are so good.

Most of the time I’m missing something its named after monsters so looking at the gem level and item name gives you a good idea what to seek out.

Way I’ve been playing it is literally just tabbing forward at gems above me and just selecting the highest level I can make when I stop at a camp. If I miss out on rank IV for example, no sweat. By playing normally I might ultimately get everything for rank V or VI soon enough so I’ll jump straight to that. I imagine end game gems are clearer in that there are only so many high level areas.

On a sidenote, hit the 60 hrs mark and the fact that I only had to charge the pro controller once during all this gameplay still amaze me

The icon from the power charge art is different in the game than in the help guide menu? In the game when I activate a power charge art an hexagon with spikes appears next to my character health bar on the left. However, in the guide menu the power charge icon looks like the attack icon (a sword) but inside a white circle.

What's that hexagon with spikes if not the power charge icon then? Nothing similar to it it's on the guide.

Weird.

I think that sounds like an aura/stance?

What art is doing this?

Nevermind, it's the maximum voltage stance.

Also, I am getting Quardun Fangs for the level IV attack gem and the game tells me I have none when there is five in my inventory. Only difference is they appear to me as rarity LV 2 instead of LV1?

What is wrong with this game?!?!

Yeah, higher rarity can't substitute low rarity. It's... odd.

Your spoiler title is kind of a spoiler in and of itself
Shit sorry, didn't consider that. 😅 I heard a bunch about it before the game was even released and the guides talk about it so I sorta assumed it was common knowledge. Changed!

Lanz's quest is one of the earliest available but hard to find the info you need to start it. Here's where to find it:
Go back to Swordmarch and go into the interior part with the pipes, go through the hallways that had previously led to the City, and eventually you should find two NPCs talking with each other in the yellow callout boxes. Listen to their conversation then discuss it at a rest spot.

So uh...

I may have had the wind taken out of my sails a bit. Question for those who have beaten the game:

I thought the Agnus Castle events were that classic Xenoblade mid-game rug-pull, and now that we've gotten to the place we've been trekking to this whole time (Swordmarch), a whole new world and big crazy story would be uncovered for the second half (like the Mechonis and its events, or Morytha and the World Tree), especially since I just got to the point where the Erythia Sea connects back around to the beginning fields in Aetia. So I've explored this world, now time for the big switch-up in the back half, right? That would track with my assumption that this game would have a similar number of chapters as XB2, and a similar story progression to 1 and 2.

Well I've been saying in this thread that I feel like I've explored the whole game world so far and I can't wait to see what cracks open for the second half, but I just ran across a little fact. There are apparently only seven chapters in this game? And I'm well into chapter 6 so...

My question for those who have finished is: am I actually almost done? Was Swordmarch the mid-game rug-pull and all my time spent sidequesting around Erythia was already the back half of the game?

Not looking for spoilers or anything, just kinda.. wondering if I'm actually almost done with the story or if chapter 6 and 7 are, as Lanz would want, a bit meatier?

I'm not that deep into chapter 7 myself, but I can tell it's not really pulling punches in terms of what's going on. You're already in the back half.

I was questioning the same things when I reached Erythia sea, I'd say your at the 60-65% mark in the game, maybe even 70%. I'd say swordmarch is kinda the mid-game rug pull and not at the same time, the game doesn't really follow the same patterns as 1 and 2 with it's story beats.

So you just started chapter 6 with going back to Aetia? Yea, you're in the final stretch and you've seen pretty much all of the game's world

I think you might be giving Xenoblade 2 too much credit in this specific department. The shock of Morytha is certainly good, but it's really not that long from there. Chapter 8 is of somewhat normal length, but chapters 9 and 10 combined are still shorter than pretty much every other chapter but 1. That rug pull signals that you're in the end, not that you've just gotten to the back half.

As others said, things don't really line up 1:1 here. Even Xenoblade 1 doesn't line up with 2; 1 had two such moments, one on the fallen arm and the whole Mechonis Core sequence. Mechonis Core about lines up with the end of XC2 chapter 7 into Morytha, but there was nothing like the fallen arm before that in 2.

Thanks for the responses yall, I shall adjust my expectations accordingly 👍

An XB3 artist I was following on Twitter just posted a massive spoiler with no warning 😑 Up until now it was just cute fanart. Guess this is what I get for taking my time.

This chapter was weirdly much shorter than I was expecting. Really felt it would have helped if the Cloudkeep had been a dungeon rather than pretty much a load of stairs. And while I really did enjoy D as a villain (holy crap at how much of a psychopath he really turned out to be) and liked the end of his and Joran's story, I do wish he'd gotten more screentime. Was surprised at how he and J didn't appear at all in between their Chapter 4 and Chapter 6 fights, not even in the villain meeting scenes after showing up in those regularly.

Also Y might be the hammiest ham to ever ham in one of these games

Oh no, I wanted to get everyone to the same level, so I hit the + button on the bonus exp screen thinking it would jump everyone one level... it jumped everyone to max level (83) and then auto saved. Now I have to decide if I want to redo the last hour or not sigh

At least I have all the classes unlocked on everyone already
