Nate knew the date but didn't know it was a partner. Plain and simple. I believe Andy Robinson was the first to say it was a partner, and Jeff Grubb mentioned the possibility of Nintendo splitting their directs into multiple small presentations. This is weirdly aggressive, please tone it down a bit
I agree that Nate's turn from "it's unlikely it's a Partner" to "I never said it couldn't be a Partner" is, uh, a little revisionist, but when it comes to actually knowing the date he was clearly first. Like @chocolate_supra said, he posted his St Elmo's Fire hint well before Alanah said the (wrong) date, and then doubled down with that hint later. And the fact it was a Partner also came (eventually) from him, although I accept that this was a reversal from his earlier information
I think you care way too much about this. Putting so much stock in people who have some inside information isn't healthy. They get things wrong. It happens. If you don't trust them, then don't believe them when they post stuff. All quotes made by nate in regards to the partner showcase
"It has not. I'm not operating under the belief it is a Partner."
"Because the branding isn't something that is communicated. If I said it is a General and it's called Colonel... people will say I'm a liar. It's a Direct. Just expect a General until told otherwise."
JUST EXPECT A GENERAL
"No one is saying it isn't a General. No one is saying it is a Mini or a Partner. "
"If I see anyone else post "concern" or "fear" of a Mini/Partner... I'll will such a presentation into existence for next week."
"No one is saying it isn't a General. No one is saying it is a Mini or a Partner. I hope they brand it the Nintendo Elmo Dies in HellFire Direct."
Wow what a weird thing to say, "no one is saying it is a partner." Why would someone who knew it was a partner say this?
"If the Direct I have knowledge of is a Mini... then they should use a different term."
The only really big announcement was Persona. So I'm really wondering what games he heard about that made him confident this couldn't be a mini.
By the way looking back he said after the direct that
"I said countless times I could not dismiss the possibility of a Mini/Partner back when the timing leaked. That was my official..."
In fact looking back at his posts he never said this, he's literally making it up. He in fact said he would be shocked if it was a mini.
I have other stuff to do so I cant go back and make a timeline of when others said it was a partner vs when he started claiming it, but yeah he was obviously very adament that it was not going to be a partner until around June 24-25 which was only a few days before it was actually announced.
Asking the real questionsWhen Everybody's 1-2 Switch is announced, 1-2 Switch is going to NSO + Expansion Pack.
The Partner Direct was literally their E3 Direct sans their own 1st Party announcements;Stopped listening after that MVG guy said there wasn’t a summer Direct because of the almost always cliche “Nintendo doesn’t have enough to show” horseshit…
I won't get to listen for a couple days. I tend to listen to their discussions while mowing the lawn. Makes the time go by quickly. I enjoy MVG's thoughts on things even though I disagree with him a lot lol.Just finished the podcast: as expected, seems like we'll be waiting until likely September for the next General! Even though the podcast was not about that, great episode again Nate! Really enjoyed it!
Imagine if Everybody's 1-2 Switch was not leaked imao. The reaction would be hilarious, it still will be but it would be on way another level.Asking the real questions
1-2 Switch is still 40$ in the eShop during sales, Nintendo isn’t going to ‘gift’ a 40$ gameWhen Everybody's 1-2 Switch is announced, 1-2 Switch is going to NSO + Expansion Pack.

As far as why Nintendo didn't have their usual direct+treehouse this year, I'd probably be more likely to believe that it was some deal with ESA.
Imagine playing leaker detectiveImagine playing leaker detective one month after the Partner Showcase aired to frame someone as a liar.
in the not too distant futureIt must be a real pain for Koizumi to host a Direct without Tokyo game in it.
I agree, i would prefer if nintendo were more transparent. They are just as responsible for creating the expectations of a summer general direct as the youtubers looking for click baitListened to that whole new episode from Nate and MVG and I normally really enjoy their content, but nah, this ain't it for me this time.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the clickbait rumor culture any more than they do, and I do think content creators have a responsibility to their audience not to spread bullshit. But those people were allowed their antics all because Nintendo refuses to set expectations. The ultimate responsibility on high comes from Nintendo, as the sole source of legitimate information, and they refused to pre-empt that chaos for one reason or another.
They continually refuse throughout that episode to hold Nintendo accountable for stoking this culture, which Nintendo no doubt benefits from in mind share, when they have the sole power to put an end to all of it.
Nintendo is so fond of their tweets now - all it would have taken was a single "Sorry, but please do not expect a June General Direct this year. We have other things coming!" And all of it would have been abolished. No clickbait, no blatant falsehoods, no creators shoveling garbage - it's already a known that it is not happening. Expectations are managed. It's an easy and clear end to years of prior precedent and it takes less than 260 characters.
We don't just need to demand better content creation - we need to demand better communication from Nintendo. Hell, there's a lot of things Nintendo do poorly for which we should expect better. They're a great gaming company, but they are not faultless and should not get a pass for some of the dubious ways they treat their consumers and their fans just because there's lower hanging fruit benefitting from their poor management.
Conversation between Takahashi and Koizumi regarding showing of next EPD Tokyo project in the Directin the not too distant future
Koizumi threatening Aonuma in the break room who presented the third trailer of BotW 2 just the day before,
while EPD Tokyo still wasn't allowed to show anything:
Whether I do or not is for me to decide if/when I want to share any such knowledge & not to give another month of clickbait content for creators. And it was not in my interest to either confirm or dismiss a September Direct in this podcast recording.I would bet (a small amount of) money that neither have actually heard anything about September yet
See you tomorrow when they will do a video just about this single post.Whether I do or not is for me to decide if/when I want to share any such knowledge & not to give another month of clickbait content for creators.

Does Nintendo need better communication? Yes. But their communication, or lack thereof, was not the focus of this discussion. It was on the reliance of forcing rumors into existence citing patterns & discussing them daily for clickbait content, using 4chan or random posts as "evidence" of something happening and then continuing the discussion into the next week with a "rumor" that was never a rumor and was only ever founded as speculation, at best.Listened to that whole new episode from Nate and MVG and I normally really enjoy their content, but nah, this ain't it for me this time.

I mean, I would prefer hearing about a game I will buy as opposed to being invested in a game I won't buy, so...If you people are not invested in XC3 right now then I don't know what will excite you from other game announcements.

Presentation plans are communicated months in advance -- just not the format of the presentation (Mini/General).hey, no salt from me. that was just my guess based on it being august first
Frankly, with the release schedule this year, I find it questionable why people think Nintendo is having a bad year. I keep seeing that being pushed and it confuses me considering its only being said because there isn't a June direct. If you people are not invested in XC3 right now then I don't know what will excite you from other game announcements.
That’s funny but can we talk more about your avatar?
I don't agree on your post but I don't want to start a discussion.Listened to that whole new episode from Nate and MVG and I normally really enjoy their content, but nah, this ain't it for me this time.

Tempted to quote avatar.
Yeah, this is what I was thinking but also didn't wanna start a big debate lol. If Nintendo said no Direct, the Youtube videos would just be asking what's going on at Nintendo? Is this or that canceled? etc etc.I don't agree on your post but I don't want to start a discussion.
I just one to point out that even if Nintendo said no june direct youtubers and the likes would have still continued to do clickbait, speculation and all the things that they do now.
Because that's how they get views and if there's no views they can just speculate and report blatantly fake leaders like samushunter or markomaro or zippo.
So yeah the clickbait culture would exist with or without Nintendo.
