Can somebody with more time than me make some sort of collection of all the posts from this morning that reference muncle, and the Spltoon 3 OLED Model announcement before it happened?

This feels like a pretty historical Fami event and should go in the logs for Drake pre-release history imo.

What do we think of the August release date? Is it usual for a game-related special edition to release before the game itself?
I wanna say that Nintendo did the same thing with some 3DS models like the Yoshi one, but I can't confirm it atm.

It's not strange. When the Animal Crossing special edition Switch was announced, there was no trailer. In fact, there was barely any marketing at all for the game up until about a month before with the Direct.

The thing about being on #TeamBelieve is that the prospect of being right is so much more enticing than the potential hurt of being wrong. It's definitely a risk I am willing to take.
I see the logic in this, but it’s more satisfying to win when you truly believe in the correct outcomes. Keeps the losses more exciting too. #teamtruelybelieve

I expect you're right but good lord Nintendo doesn't usually do products in that price range 😬 That's going to be interesting even though all their stuff has been steadily creeping up in price.
It actually makes sense if they will treat it as a hardcore hardware for enthusiasts and not something that will become the new Switch.
Then a few years later, maybe in 2024 or 2025, they will release a more optimized version of the console, maybe with a die shrink, at a lower price, treating THAT as the successor.

Nintendo is back from winter sleep, first party news should be coming any day now. They were just fixing their old servers man

Splatoon 3 was originally slotted for Summer, and given Xenoblade 3's release date bump, the OLED special edition was probably going to release near or on the original release date.

Would look nice for when the site tries to sell itself to Scandinavian owners to have all the news broken here in one place ;)

ohhhh

y'know this makes the idea of doing an oled special edition make more sense overall...

it wasn't supposed to be two months before a pro, it was supposed to be three or four

So we know a stronger Switch is coming. It is indeed a revision and not a successor, going by the back logo being the same. Sunbreak will run at 60 FPS.

I can't find the exact post that says 2022. I see September estimated reveal. But I'm assuming 2022 release was said at some point as well.

But this is where I falter. People will go out and buy a Splatoon OLED in anticipation of Splatoon 3. We are saying that a week (or so) after those customers boot up Splatoon 3 for the first time on their brand new hardware, Nintendo is going to announce an even better Switch that is coming in two months? It just seems like a good way to really piss off a portion of your userbase.

I think it would make more sense to announce in September for launch alongside BoTW2 in 2023, or even hold off announcing until their February Direct (to again launch alongside BoTW2). Though who knows, it's Nintendo after all.

But, for the first time ever, I actually truly think a Pro of some kind is coming. And that is F'ing awesome!

Look honestly I'm easy to please

as long as I get a piece of plastic I can buy to prove I'm a Nintendo fan I'll be happy

since going all digital I need at least one thing per year to prove my worthiness, the game + watches were nice

so when they said they were just fixing it,they really do:ROFLMAO:

man it would be cool if they got out way ahead of this and made sure everyone who wanted to preorder this new thing could do so instead of dropping it randomly. but if even Sony and MS had manufacturing issues with their new consoles, I can't see this launch being pretty, artificial scarcity or no

I think that if they are going to launch new hardware in 2023, they are going to announce it in 2023. If you announce it in 2022 and launch it in 2023 you are losing a lot of Christmas sales.

So, or it's announced and released in 2022 or in 2023, but not announced in 2022 and released in 2023 imo

unsure if I'm missing a beat or a rumor here but

I see no purpose to a Lite OLED. The customer aim for a Lite is "make it cheap as possible". Unless the previous panel stops being manufactured, I don't think it would move the needle.
The only way it would be possible would be a much smaller revision, like Game Boy Advance Micro, it had the SP screen but OG GBA shape.

And when I say "possible" I mean "unlikely but possible."

At this point, it seems the likelihood for a Pro is much better than an OLED Lite. I don't think there is any real evidence for a Lite OLED, but there is lots of evidence for a Pro.
