Wish I could go back a week and leak the image above and see what the reactions are.

For a game all about flashy graphics and style I can't believe the P5R logo looks as bad as it does.

P5 and R have zero graphical coherence.

Hello Everybody! Im new here, but Im a long ago lurker since the old site, the lack of a first party presentation from Nintendo is driveme crazy like all of you, I hope we have good news in the coming days.

I certainly get that, yeah. But begrudging those of us in the loop is also tiring.

It's totally fair to have this perspective, but in that case maybe just don't engage. I don't really see the purpose in users loudly declaring they are tired of this conversation
I don’t disagree, loudly proclaiming ignorant takes is not a good idea in most cases including this one. I just felt the need to defend those who (politely) express frustration regarding these revision discussions.

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how Nintendo handles the inevitable new hardware rollout given the current economic realities. Considering how much Nintendo values profit margin on their products, I would wager whatever more powerful Switch is eventually announced will be a relatively scarce, high price “enthusiast” model for a while with Nintendo continuing to sell the OG Switch as a lower-cost entry model. Because of this, I expect the branding to be something more like “Switch Plus” and not “Switch 2,” since I think Nintendo will be hesitant to imply that the original Switch is “outdated.”

This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Furukawa-san, Nintendo's Global CEO, we decided that the next General Nintendo Direct presentation will be in February 2023. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

Splatoon 3 being September is better for me because that way Sunbreak can be on the go until September, then Splatoon 3 can replace it while I'm probably still playing Xenoblade 3.

The videogame gods might pile up challenges for me at first glance, but now I take another look, the Fates have been kind.

July event from Nintendo is not a Direct but 50 lucky people will be chosen via Twitter and they can have a tour around a Nintendo Platform Technology Development division in Kyoto, where the new hardware from Nintendo is developed, or as some call it Nintendo's Willy Wonka factory.

July 14th - Nintendo tweets

‘Get for a new type of presentation, Nintendo Presents! Tomorrow we will showcase the latest games coming to Nintendo Switch from our third party partners. Much like the recent partner spotlight but shorter and only focusing on Bakugan titles’

I don't like being negative but I'm not feeling a new Direct soon.

HOWEVER, there's a lot of news Nintendo "owes" us:
  • Strikers first update info.
  • MK8 DLC pack 2 info.
  • New NSO roadmap.
  • Bayo3 release date.
  • Splat3 info + potential Testfire.
In particular, I feel Strikers update and MK8 pack 2 are things they should reveal ASAP.

Now, whether all that info is dropped in random tweets (like what happened with Kirby early in the year) or as part of a bigger 1st party focused Direct it's hard to tell. At least, this info wouldn't make sense to be dropped with hardware...

The Nvidia Drake hack pushes the idea of upgraded hardware beyond speculation and rumors, there is not much else "NVN2" can be. It is no longer guessing games from production lines, OS datamines, folks misinterpreting devkit hardware, wishful thinking from nice looking gameplay videos, or insider information. It does suck that we had to find out from an illegal hack.

Even if you trust no one, this has to be taken into consideration. And based on what other people scouring the leaked code, it is a project that has made significant progress, doubtful it will be scrapped. The "mythical Switch Pro" this is not. It's just a question of when, and not if. I'll happily keep waiting with the knowledge that Drake exists and will be in our hands sooner rather than later, I'm still enjoying my current Switch.

I don't think that there's anyone with a remote interest in Nintendo who believes that they are not yet developing a new machine though. More than 5 years in, everyone is developing something.
But beyond what's in the hack, which is already pretty substantial, the rest is anybody's guess and Nintendo has proven to be quite good when it comes to hiding their hardware info; no one expected the lite/Redbox a few week before the announcement. No one expected the OLED to be what it ended up being when it was announced.
If Nvidia hadn't been hacked, even things like DLSS wouldn't be a sure thing (though it would be easy to guess it at this point).

All these are too many things for all to be Twitter dropped, while possible and some will be Twitter dropped Nintendo tends to focus on their late Q3/Q4 1st party games before September at one point.

Tune in for a Nintendo Direct: FUCK YOU presentation. We will showcase titles that will for sure want to make you scream FUCK YOU to your screen. Note: Bakugan will be featured.

The Switch Sports update should be happening pretty soon too. I’m leaning against a direct as well, but it’s hard to deny just how much we should be expecting this month.

True, forgot about that. So there's like 5-6 potential things to announce "soon" (they could easily skip announcing a NSO roadmap).

Honestly, the thing that makes me doubt a Direct is just why would they separate the announcements of 1st party and 3rd party stuff, even though I felt the recent Partner Direct not having 1st party stuff was a plus for the games revealed.

Tune in for a Nintendo reveal that might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade.

After not getting General Direct in June:

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

The bakugan thing really traumatized lots of people.
It was a summer day in 2020. Nintendo decided they wanted to share some news with their fans.

Nintendo: "Tune in for more Paper Mario gameplay and a new game from Wayforward in a franchise new to them!"

Fans: Cool! Are they partnering with a nintendo IP for something? This could be neat.

Nintendo: "Oh btw it's a 3rd party property"

Fans: Oh no worries! Maybe they're working with Castlevania or some other 3rd party video game IP?

Nintendo: "BAKUGAAAAANNNN!!!!!!"

And so, the fans were reminded yet again that 2020 was a dark year

What I'm trying to say is that current expectations of DLSS-enabled hardware are based in something grounded and not wishful thinking about theoretical Switch 2 hardware. I know the PS6 will eventually exist because patterns, but I have no expectations about potential specs and timeframe. The Nvidia leak gives me minimum expectations, even if it is an incomplete picture and we know nothing about clocks or process nodes.

There are many a person who claim that Nintendo would never touch something like DLSS or raytracing because they make weak hardware for the sake of it, that they'll coast with the current Switch until 2026/2027, that a Switch 2 will be much weaker than the Steam Deck 'because Nintendo' and all that. We can now reasonably say this won't be the case.

I really thought Wayforward was doing a new Wario Land, sad times.

It’s a problem when it basically hijacked all discussion in this forum

I ignored the hardware speculation thread. I check out the Direct thread, ready to tell people to calm down as we already just had a perfectly fine Direct and a pretty stacked Q3 so it’s acceptable to not expect first party news until September, it’s not like we are starved for new information. If it happens before September it’s a nice surprise, it’s pretty silly when every month is a question of #TeamMonth, it’s not January. However, even this thread can’t just be about that as we got the potential new hardware talk right at the poll. If it’s all over unrelated threads it’s pretty hard to simply ignore

I know it’s hard to make new Star Topics and the like, I know about the meme of people posting in forums not playing any games but like… where are the active topics about games. There have been a bunch of notable releases in June, between this and the huge sales there are quite a lot of games to play but I’m not seeing much about them. It’s not ideal that the best way to actually discuss games here is to hope that it’s a topic in the latest page of the General Discussion thread. Last week Three Hopes came out, now I’m zero interested in that game as I hate both Fire Emblem and Musous. However, I would expect it to be a big deal here, like having an official topic, related threads popping up or people spoiler tagging posts about the game and whatnot. I’m not seeing any of this, what I did see however is speculation on future DLC for that game appearing on a hypothetical Nintendo Direct. See the pattern, it’s just not ideal to have speculation as the bulk of most topics here

Can't wait for the Koizumi "IDGAF" vacation live stream.
Koizumi enjoying life while all the enraged fans go apeshit in the chat.

He did. "Some form of ray tracing" was the exact formulation, if I recall. And no, I'm not going to the other forum to verify, I don't even have an account anymore. But maybe @Thugstas will confirm that he was indeed the first one to mention ray tracing.
Nate mentioned RT as the exact terminology and I said what you wrote.

I encourage you to be the change you want to see on the site. If you made a thread, not even necessarily a "StarTopic," about one of these recent games, I'm sure that the people would come.

Tune in for a Nintendo reveal that might make you scream at your mom and hit the plate of chicken nuggets she brought out of her hand.

I don't recall seeing anyone in this forum claiming that the next switch wouldn't have those features. The only points of contention are regarding the status of the machine (revision or successor), and the release date. The Nvidia hack, which is it only solid piece of information, doesn't address either. We can guess based on the specs that having such power will lead to a lot of exclusive games down the line despite a probably long transition period (so successor rather than revision). We can also guess based on the fact that the machine exists that it will release anytime between next month to 2025. I like the end of 2023-2024 range.

Quite excited to see if anything happens next week, a lot of smoke floating around. We will wait and see.
