Got some interesting conversation going on tonight!
Oh that's a shame I figured the scale and gameplay would stand out
Yeah I do think that it depends on what exactly you didn't like about 3D World, because structurally, this takes more cues from the other, single player 3D games, as stated here:
I’m gonna say that it depends on what you disliked about 3D World. It’s a free camera, with the levels designed for single player instead of the wide multiplayer areas in 3D world. But the movement and the mechanics are all 3D World.
...but I would also like to point out that 3D World Switch makes a couple of important mechanics changes (faster running is the main one, but you also have the midair roll move that's similar to Odyssey's dive) that also make their way into Bowser's Fury. Also, while 3D World restricts your analog movement to only certain angles, Bowser's Fury has full 360 degree movement.
With Octo Expansion on NSO, I'm finally making my way through the original Splatoon 2 campaign. I played a few hours but didn't make it all the way through. I'm about to start the boss of the 3rd zone. I know Octo is the real meaty single player but the one is the base game is pretty fun and can be difficult at times. Not sure if I'll jump back in multiplayer. I'll probably just play the expansion and then wait for Splatoon 3 before getting into multiplayer again.
I do feel that the Splatoon 2 base campaign might be a touch underrated? I think it mostly suffers from being "second verse, same as the first" compared to Splatoon 1. The structure is pretty similar, the new lore here isn't as interesting because it mostly just fills the gaps between 1 and 2 rather than introducing us to this world, and while Splatoon 1 has a fantastic final boss, Splatoon 2's is more standard. But at the same time, while Splatoon 1's campaign only had you using the Hero Shot unless you had the Amiibo missions, Splatoon 2's campaign lets you try out all of the weapon types, better preparing players for multiplayer and providing a lot of replay value since you can replay stages with any weapon type. I'd also say that the general level design is about the same quality as 1's as well.

Man seeing the Factor 5 logo reminded me of an old tale of Nintendo partners abandoning them, going exclusive on another platform, and ending in studio closure. Factor 5 and silicon knights come to mind.

who’s ready for Mario Striker marketing now?

Finally. A good Football game on switch.
I’m just glad the objective seems to be focusing on the fundamentals/online and just make the best Mario Strikers game they make

Every time there’s a new Mario sports game I start getting sweaty worried there’s gonna be some massive catch before the trailer is over lol

Splatoon and Splatoon 2’s campaign’s in general are both highly underrated. The best levels have that Mario Galaxy-feeling where they zoom in on obstacles/mechanics and find everything fun and clever you can extract out of them, but it’s explored in a 3rd person shooter lense.

Splatoon 2’s base campaign is definitely bigger and better than 1’s except the final boss battle isn’t as good. Octo Expansion definitely took it to the next level, but what’s there in the base game is awesome.

Can't wait, I hope Next Level Games is able to deliver a fun game with enough depth to engage both casual and competitive fans. Aces and Ultimate were able to do it.

Tennis Aces was fire. After all the patches it got it's my favorite Mario Sport game.
I'm super excited for Strikers, I really don't care about the content as long as the gameplay is deep enough and the characters selection is on par with Strikers Charged. ( 12 captains + 8 sidekicks )

Oh my god I completely forgot the NFL draft is tonight. It just dawned on me how very very little I care about it.
I'm pretty into football and I still don't give a shit about the draft. I really don't understand all of the gigantic hype and discussion it gets every year. I'm usually happy when it finally happens just so sports shows/radio/etc. can stop talking about it, lol.

Jeff Grub thinks we will see the Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Zelda: Twilight Princess HD along with Metroid Prime Remake out this year. Personally I doubt it but I hope he ends up being right. Didn't listen to his podcast but I'm guessing this is him purely speculating and that he doesn't know anything more then we do.

I don’t know why I thought watching The Batman was a good idea but it really fucking wasn’t

Well instead of gaming I wound up finishing the mesh of this instead…. Tho the finger rigging wound up a mess

"Nintendo already has some gameS in September" Isn't Splatoon 3 the only one we know about? I'm guessing Bayonetta 3 is in September then (I can't see Mario + Rabbids and Splatoon in the same month).

Are there many comics readers here? I booted up the comixology app for the first time in a few months and Jesus Christ, Amazon have completely butchered it. Feels like all the comics I’ve bought over the years (that actually show up) have just been wasted.

I just can’t believe that the Mario movie plot is basically Pocahontas in the Mushroom Kingdom. James Cameron would be proud.

I have owned my switch for years and this week is the first time I became a "real" switch owner.
Played handheld for the first time and bought online + expansion pack

Imagine if it had kept its original release date. The 2022 holiday movie season would have been so confusing with people wondering which CGI Pocahontas clone was which. 🤣

Can’t really quote everyone but huge thanks to everyone who answered my TWEWY question. You can always count on this place to come with lots of great insight, and I appreciate that!

I did some more research looking into reviews etc before buying the first game, and I really don’t regret it so far - it’s excellent when it comes to visuals, music and overall vibe and execution!

However, the battle system is really confusing me. I don’t really know how to use most pins, or how to trigger a companion to come in. And the touch controls feels very unresponsive.

There’s certain pin types that have easier execution so I usually put those up front in your deck like slashing, tapping, or dashing. You do want to rotate your pins out regularly for various reasons, but I usually keep one of those reliable ones as an anchor of sorts in front. I think if you dig in your menu, there should be a tutorial about how to use your partner. It’s completely different on Switch and I don’t remember the inputs. Are you using a capacitative stylus to play? The other kind doesn’t work well on Switch.

Last night I had a super weird dream: Nintendo released Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch as a digital only titles at €9.99 and it sold 8m copies at day 1. They made it a full MMORPG and everyone was playing with the bunny costume.

One day I'll never have to hear about Poppy Playtime ever again and that day will be the best day of my life. Out of all the games to get a fucking movie....

I am about to finish Dying Light and thinking of getting my first ever Animal Crossing for my next game (and yes I know that these 2 games are the exact opposite :D).
I have no idea if I like it but I just wanna see what the hype is all about

Your dream gets weirder and more unrealistic everytime until you mentioned everyone using the bunny costume, that’s the most realistic thing of it and probably would happen.

What’s a capacitative stylus? My stylus is rather thick but works perfectly with mario maker and GBG.

So, if there is June Direct will Nintendo announce it well in advance? (E3 2021 Direct was announced about 13 days before). But since there is no E3 this year will Nintendo announce it in like 2 days prior as they use to with normal Directs?

Any interesting tidbits from Nate's latest NSO podcast ?
They're expecting GB/GBC in the base tier, probably in September, don't know about the GBA (will it release this year ? will it be in the expansion pack ?). They commented a lot on the rumored support of the Transfer Pack, because that'd probably mean we'll get the Pokémon games on NSO (the GB games on the base, Stadium on the Expansion Pack, with the Transfer Pack being here to encourage people to subscribe to the higher tier).

But mostly, as men of taste, they both want a Star Fox Zero port on the Switch.

Trying to 100% Arceus, but the Pokémon that only appear in the randomly-generated distortions are making me reconsider it

That was the worst part by far, yeah. That and getting
spiritomb

I’ve been working on it in bursts since I finished the story in March, 1 area at a time. I’ve 100%-ed 3 areas so far and am going to try and to the last two ones here soon. I’ve found it best to just put the game down for a week or two when I start to feel annoyed until I feel like picking it up again.

I am doing some shorter games after doing both xenoblade and skyward sword this month
God this place has really gone downhill while I wasn't posting.... People actually playing and finishing games?
BTW yeah I'm really on a break from heavy long RPG games too, just finished Xenoblade DE after playing SMTV, Pokémon Arceus and Earthbound. Right now I'm trying some of the Kirby event thingy and FM Touch 22 rn.

God yes! I was waiting for this one since the speculation started with Luigi's Mansion because of some painting or something like it.

It’s a stylus with a softer, kind of squishy tip as opposed to a hard tip. I’ve read before the Switch screen is more suited for that, but if yours works fine for those games it’s probably fine. I bought mine for Mario Maker originally.

some touch screens work with what is called resistive touch, in which two membranes are pushed together and complete a circuit (or something to that effect). the ds, 3ds, and Wii U all used this approach and it's why you can use anything on those screens.

the switch, as well as most modern devices, use capacitive touch, which uses the electrical capacitance of your hands. it's why only your finger works on it, and water, which is similarly capacitive to the human hand iirc, makes them go berserk.

you specifically need a capacitive stylus, which recreates the capacitance of a finger, to use on switch

oh shit!
Man, I had a lot of fun playing R-Type Tactics on my PSP back in the day. I'd be down for a replay on the Switch along with the sequel which I don't believe we ever got here in the US.
