The thing with EPD 8's 2D game is I'm not sure what other franchise it could be. I don't see Nintendo assigning two internal groups to 2D Mario. Plus, the two hiring calls for the 2D games came 10 months apart. I suppose it's possible EPD 10 take a different 2D franchise and EPD 8 adopt 2D Mario, but that seems less likely than EPD 10 staying with 2D Mario and 8 taking on either another mascot, or something new.

HAL make Kirby, and I doubt Nintendo view Yoshi as needing an internal group. Sadly, I also don't see Wario Land suddenly getting an internal development group. DK is the obvious candidate.

This is where I stand as well. I don’t think the rumors are credible, but EPD Tokyo making a 2D game is a known thing that doesn’t need rumors. And they have worked with the Donkey Kong IP in the past (Jungle Beat).

I was curious and I read his blog. He seems really confident and apparently the P4 Golden ports are finished. I'm still skeptical and I won't believe it until I get I have it on my Switch or future Deck.

New 2D IP? I'd love to see it but I don't think see it happening nowadays

1) FE4 maps aren't very good and are archaic, I feel like IS knows this hence why we've never gotten FE4-style maps again
2) We're already getting a remake of (presumably/allegedly) actual FE4 anyway, which is allegedly currently being developed, and could be released as soon as 2023. Perhaps IS will focus on making changes and additions to make FE4 better without having another, brand new game with FE4-style maps to worry about.

In my opinion, "scope of the maps" could just be referring to IS building off of Conquest if the maps are particularly ambitious. I certainly hope that's the case lol.

After a while of thinking, I agree, the maps most likely (hopefully lol) be more ambitious in terms of conditions, design and objectives similar to Conquest.
 
They can release the horse stinker game whenever they want, as long as it's reasonably close to other games coming out. If it gets released in the same month as Metroid Prime 1 or Bayo 3, there's no reason to complain.

Zippo actually got more stuff right than he got credit for. He was the very first person to mention Metroid 5. Other insiders had brought it up, but I remember being stressed because it was bouncing between remake and new game, yet he put his foot down on new game. Also was the first to leak Paper Mario a few months before it was announced. He said it was a return to form which was wrong, but iirc other insiders did too. And there’s stuff like partners where I can see getting that impression.

I think he just bit off more than can chew when he tried to confirm direct timings and all that. Always sad about the hate he got though, I remember before he was an insider he was a pretty close member of this community. So I don’t think he started off with bad intentions.

I'm a little agnostic on Zippo in general, but I don't know how much credit he should get for Metroid - the rumors about an upcoming 2D game were already very strong, and he basically just went all in on a 50/50 (new entry vs remake). I'm less familiar with the Paper Mario leak though, so it's possible that's stronger evidence for his credibility.

He was not actually the first to mention Metroid 5. It was mention long before he said anything.

I very much remember him being more clear on it being a new game. Imran had floated Super Metroid remake, and Emily had said it was in the works but I never saw her comment on if it was a brand new Metroid until way closer to its reveal (iirc, Zippo confirmed it the September before it’s reveal at E3).

I specifically remember this because I was VERY worried we were getting a super remake, and wanted clarification badly lol. and he was the only one who put his foot down on it actually being Metroid 5.

No I totally agree with you about that. He was the first to say that it was 100% a new game, not a remake. Before that the rumors just said that it was a 2D game made by Mercury Steam. But like I said, I don't think betting on a 50/50 and winning is strong evidence of credibility.
 
I wonder how many RPG’s will be coming

There have been so many RPG’s released, announced and coming out this year. Oh boy.
 
Vergeben reported before Zippo (june 2019, a week early than E3) the developments of a new 2D Metroid game. He also said that a new Wario Ware was in active development (that became true though it was a little generic).

But before that, a user on NeoGaf (that late september 2017, just when Samus Returns remake was released) said that next Mercury Stream was a new 2D Metroid title for Switch.

The problem with Zippo is that he gets very little information about future nintendo products and then he makes his leaks using that little information with his own speculation.

Example: he said earlier this year that on 2022 nintendo will release a new mario sports title. He though that was a new mario baseball but resulted on mario strikers.

Or another one; he was so insisted on mario kart 9 being real. I think his source heard that Nintendo was preparing 48 mk tracks and thought that was related to a new game.

Conclusion; Zippo is a bad speculator and probably mixes his own wishes with what little info he gets. I’m very sure the 2D DK rumor from EPD Tokyo came because of that job posting.

Regular (non -strategy) RPG's? On Switch? Coming this year? It sure doesn't feel that way right now. Xeno 3 and Live A Live are the only RPG's until fall and even fall doesn't have much. Just Trails to Zero as of now.

We need more asap. Big names like Soul Hackers 2, One Piece Odyssey, Star Ocean 6 they're all skipping Switch this year, I hope we'll get some more Switch announcements to compensate for those. Like a Scarlet Nexus late port. Or that rumored FF9 remake. Give me all.
