Another day another character squeezed into my avatar thanks to another Nintendo megaton

2 this time - trainer and my son

Went to Serebii's twitter, seeing how it's basically Arceus but in a "proper" Pokémon game (modern setting, multiple towns, we see classic Pokémon Center, two versions, etc), I thought surely the Pokémon fanbase must be excited !
Lol. Well, we got one month of cool online Pokémon discussion. Back to the good ol toxic discussions surrounding the mainline games.

Anyway, I'm really hype ! Nintendo's 2022 continues to be insane.

Gotta admit, I was kinda hoping for a region not in Europe, like Africa or India. Happy for all the Spaniards/people with Spanish heritage though - much as I'm down on Galar as a region it does have a lot of British character I appreciated.
Well, parts of Spain and to its extent, much of South America has a lot of North African and middle eastern influence. Not the same, I know, but it’s good to see something Spanish not be what Americans think Spanish people are. So that’s a win for me.

Nah, it is a time and polish problem. Look at Breath of the Wild or DQ XIS.
We sadly have not many examples because most are ports and not developed for the Switch itself, but this isn't a Switch problem in my opinion.
DQ XIS isn't open world. The player can only move in small, restricted "corridors". Nothing compared to the player mobility possible in PLA.

So that's like the game after legends that I was expecting, but I was not seeing it this year at all.
Arceus gameplay loop seemed really light with all the elements it stripped of the previous games.
Now we could be getting the full expercience minus the graphics, once again given that hell schedule they're on.
And props to the trademark half frame rate animations moment lol

This is not open world. It has very differentiated zones and a world map, but DQXI S is absolutely not an open world.

If it’s open world that should mean you can visit the gyms/towns in any order with level scaling.. right?

Alright, wow. That was honestly not what I was expecting from Gen 9. Going from Arceus to a full open world in the span of one year is impressive. Whatever you can say about GF they certainly aren't lacking in ambition right now

Hopefully this takes more of the QoL from Arceus. Overworld battles are in, hopefully they're seamless. Same with seamless overworld catching. Spain inspired region is great, hopefully we'll get a lot of variety in environments. Visually I think it's better than Arceus and if it improves by the same amount by release it should be a fairly good looking game by any standard

should we expect a swsh-tier expansion for this?
I guess? Would be a dick move of them to go back to third versions at this point, though for all we know they could do a sequel or a prequel.

This will be the first time since Squirtle that I will choose water starter. Quaxckleckcxy is too darn awesome.

But I also need that firecroc. Cats can go to other trainers.

Definitely strong Portugal/Spain/Mediterranean vibes. I did have an outlandish dream about going to Central African, South America, Australia setting but art direction looks good and this was definitely safer bet for open world game.

Didn't expect gen 9 this year, but looks good to me. The starters are great, definitely going with the grass cat.

Watching the trailers again, some more in depth thoughts

-Why was the live action part happening in a museum? I think the themes of the game will revolve around heritage and generations, and I think it's very possible that time traveling and time distortions are involved. The museum part showed a clock malfunctioning, and we saw a Hisuian Zoroark there, so I think this makes sense. And, as someone else pointed out, the logos seems to represent past and future.

-The way the trailer was focused on that one big town makes me think the structure will be a bit different this time. I think that town will be a main hub like Jubilife Village, and the player will explore other cities in whichever order they want. Another minor thing that corroborates that is that the two player characters are wearing some kind of school uniform, so I think they're students and will be tied to that big city.

LOVE the sunny summer vibe, reminds me so much of Alola. Graphics looks great to me, they further improved from Legends and this time it’s all seamless AND has big cities? Sign me the f up

1.) Im very excited for this

2.) in regards to graphics, ill say what i said about legends. I do wish they were better, but i understand that game freak is small, they dont have a ton of experience with free roaming games that offer a free camera, though, they have more now though with arceus. Square once said “hd towns are hard” so with this being their first attempt at free roaming hd towns and cities, im keeping my expectations in check. They are slowly improving, compared to legends, the pokemon now seem to have textures, I think we will get to a point where the games do look good, but its probably gonna take a few more entries.
Its not unreasonable to expect better from
Pokemon, its the biggest entertainment brand in the world, but i do think people need to remember how big game freak is, and their relative experience in the industry compared to other developers

It still doesn’t look amazing visually, but I thought it looked a lot better than Arceus. Like that shot near the end of a vacation house surrounded by trees has way more detail and stuff going on than anything in Arceus.

Plus a true open world has me intrigued.

The starters look great, the setting is lovely and I adore the titles. The only thing I can nitpick about is the main character designs. Everything else is sublime. Can't wait.

What a great year for Pokemon. Time to start debating endlessly as to which starter I'll pick. Quite love Quaxly, but I've been on a roll with picking water type starters lately.

Honestly it kind of looks like it had some open world footage and some real time Pokemon encounters…I’m just so shocked as to why they would release this less than a year after Legends.
I get the sense that legends was a much more simplistic tech demo to lay the ground work for this game. A hand full of open areas, centered around one very simple town. That game was probably made to build the foundation for this game

I wonder if there will still be emphasis on catching like in Legends Arceus. To me, the emphasis on exploration and catching was my favourite part of that game.

Although I guess with an open world, it’s likely that they will want you to explore, so…

Fuecoco is most certainly a misdirection. Final evo won't be a croc. It either will be a horse or a snake. It could be horse and it has hoofs instead of claw feet. It could be snake because that damn thing is a chili pepper with limbs. An pepper themed anaconda would be SWEET.

And we're probably able to go shopping and dress them up, change their hair and stuff, so that will be fine too!

People are tripping. This looks GREAT. Also won't run at 360p like Xenoblade 3 will in handheld.

Yeah I hope they maintain res like Legends did, honestly I didn't realize how much the res drops bother me as a performance cop-out until getting my hands on a Series S lol

Wonder if inspired by this story from 2020 where a 2m crocodile likely from the Nile ended up in a Spanish river

I really don't think Game Freak has any incentive to shake up the formula here. Why bother making an open world when it's going to sell regardless?

But it's the "fire croc" Pokémon...

mClassic cleaned Sw/Sh and PLA up massively so this will probably end up looking pretty good on my TV. It can't do anything for the textures, but I don't mind them that much.

Didn't even watch the trailer, as soon as I saw the Fami headlines I went on media blackout. All images and embeds blocked, both on desktop and phone. Well I don't mind reading stuff about the games for now, but maybe I'll phase that out too eventually

This announcement basically confirms to me that Arceus was originally supposed to be the 2021 holiday title, got delayed and BDSP were outsourced to fill in the gap

FR - I'm a big fan of games not dropping resolution (looking at you Xeno 2) becuase in handheld / docked with mclassic, other visual oddities can be well masked

But it's the "fire croc" Pokémon...
Final evo doesn't have to stay loyal to the theme. Litten is a cat and Incineroar is a tiger. Chespin is a chipmunk but Chesnaught is... a bear? And then there is Samurott.
