I know there’s a lot of Fire Emblem and Xenoblade predictions for this direct. If you don’t care for them I wouldn’t let speculation bring you down. In the end it’s…speculation. They could have any left field surprise or any of the other rumored games discussed like DK, 2D Mario or 2D Zelda, Pikmin 4, etc.. BotW 2 could be delayed so Nintendo announces the next 3D Mario for the holiday.

3 games that are likely going to sell 10m in a single year isn't enough for you?

Looking at the list, the only games that even break 5m on Switch are Mario, the most popular Mario spin offs, Zelda (sometimes), Splatoon, Animal crossing and Ring fit.

Mario + Rabbids 1 was over 7.5m, so presumably that sequel is intended to be the major mario spin-off game of the year. We're getting Zelda, Splatoon already confirmed. Ring fit 2 isn't impossible I guess?
Missed the rest of your post initially.

Yeah, Mario + Rabbids could land in the 5 to 10 million range if it makes it out this year, certainly. It would be a good complement to Zelda at the end of the year. I don't see Ring Fit 2 happening given EPD 4 would be responsible for any 1-2 Switch sequel.

At some point this year or next the EPD groups who make the three major Mario series should be about ready to ship new games (3D, 2D, Kart). Of course, it's an open question as to whether or not Kart in particular is even planned any time soon, but I'm not ruling out a major Mario title this year. I'm not banking on it, but definitely not ruling it out.

Last year the "focusing on spring" was actually pretty accurate outside of the one more thing and a few third party stuff, so I would advise against thinking we're too clever for Nintendo's tricks. I remember going from "focusing on spring lol Nintendo" to "what did you expect they said focusing on Spring" really quickly.

They could have announced Dread, Wario Ware, Mario Party, Advance Wars... but they didn't.

There isn't a single Mario game of any kind announced isn't there (not by Ubisoft)? Kind of crazy when you think about it.

Surely there's at least one this year. Can't be Mario Party or the usual Mario Sport game either.
Yup. There has to be something Mario related shown, spinoff or otherwise.

There seems to be a bit of a habit creeping in of generalising everybody's opinions into an amorphous mass. This time last year it seemed obvious to me Nintendo wouldn't talk much about the second half purely because they hardly had anything set in stone for the first half of 2021; they needed to concentrate on that period. And then, going into E3, that made it obvious the focus would be on the second half of 2021, which was empty outside of Zelda in mid-July and Pokemon in November. My expectations both times were multiple announcements for the few months following the Direct; and even then, Nintendo sprang surprises on me (did not expect to see 2022 titles in February; expected Party, Metroid, and WarioWare at E3, had my socks well and truly knocked off by Advance Wars).

This year is a little different, because we have two games dated for March, a third game set for 'spring' and 3 more Nintendo games (plus M+R) set for 2022. Ahead of the February 2021 Direct, we had New Pokemon Snap set for April and that was it. The software landscape is pretty different this year, which potentially means - but does not guarantee - that the Direct announcements will differ in focus.

They they announced SSHD and Splatoon 3. It wasn’t one more thing. 2 games from Nintendo outside of spring. In 2019 when they announced Mario Maker 2, Astral Chain and Links Awakening, two of them were outside of spring (you could technically count Mario Maker 2 since it was just a week or so after spring).

It’s not about “what did you expect”, it’s what they announced is the difference between these 2 presentations. Fire Emblem and Xenoblade or DK and Metroid would fit with years past being at least 2 games possibly outside of spring. People here seem grounded in reality. It’s just that there’s many titles that could be possibly announced.

That same Direct announced 2 major 2022 titles and few summer titles lol.

I personally don't expect any 2023 titles to be announced during the Direct (except for 2022 titles that get delayed) because they will have their hands full with this year's lineup but I'd be very surprised if we didn't see any new Nintendo games coming in Summer or later this year.

Yeah I’m not expecting any new titles announced for 2023 like we had with Splatoon 3 last year. I think everything announced from first party to third party will have the intention of releasing this year.

The fact that Resident Evil games tend to get leaked a lot and there's no news about Resident Evil Switch.. yeah I think it's DEAD.
Main source of the leaks was DuskGolem and they said repeatedly a Revelations 3 is in works for Switch.

The whole future Capcom support for Switch is a mystery, that leaked documents showed there was no support planned around and after the launch of G version of Rise. Capcom literally makes half of their income off Switch, it's unlikely for them to leave the platform so whatever they have will be a surprise for us.

I‘m claiming a Direct on Wednesday because I‘ll probably fail my exams that day and I need some Nintendo serotonin to distract me from having to retake the law course next year.

Do you think there will be MH Rise: Sunbreak information?
I honestly think it will be in the Direct. Like next monster and showing new locales and some new moves/new mechanics. Then on Twitter Capcom will announce the next MH Rise Sunbreak showcase where they will go into more details.

The main take away from the direct will be Nintendo is focusing on Splatoon 3 for now

it will be the main game of the direct and take a lot of time, Wich make Nintendo focusing on another big game unlikely

Stuff like FE and Xenoblade can share the spotlight, but not BoTW 2 or new 3D Mario

now if the Mario kart team are making a smaller game like Arms 2 instead of new MK I can see it be the surprise reveal of the direct at the end

They said Spring for the next batch of information
Despite that, I think we will see a small trailer of some kind in the Direct. Then more information later in Spring, maybe late February/early March. Especially since the expansion is releasing in matter of months.

I wonder if the announcement tweet will say something like 'focussing on titles to be released in the 1st half of 2022' and then they will have a follow up tweet saying that BOTW will not be present at this direct but is still planned for a 2022 release date and that they will share more details later?

I think if it's not there, they might address it to stop meltdowns. Like they did with the Wayforward treehouse tweet in 2020 saying that they weren't working on any 1st party titles. Not that it stopped the Bakugan meltdowns...

I don't think they have ever done anything like that for a normal direct, I don;t see why they would start now

They don't really do this anymore. Even headliners only take like 3ish minutes at most these days.

A little under 26 hours to announcement, we're entering the endgame

I'd forgotten about Bakugan lmao. What a time to witness.

I could see in the Direct "We know you're all excited about BOTW 2 news blah blah unfortunately we don't have anything to share today but tune in to our E3 conference for a deep dive into the game alongside other reveals!"

They'll date (almost) everything until July with the possibility of revealing other H2 titles with a vague 2022 release date.

I could see in the Direct "We know you're all excited about BOTW 2 news blah blah unfortunately we don't have anything to share today but tune in to our June Nintendo Direct not at all tied to any cancelled event that would've happened that month for a deep dive into the game alongside other reveals!"
I think my version is probably a little more accurate.

Splatoon 3 will probably be around 5-6 minutes. It won’t get a huge chunk. It’ll probably get its own direct in the coming month or two. A new 3D Mario announcement would be a 1-2 minute trailer with a blowout at E3. Splatoon 3 isn’t stopping Nintendo from announcing another huge game.

A whole description of a play test leaked last year, similar to what happened with Village.
It leaked pretty heavily. Probably just got delayed quite a bit, like most other Capcom games since Covid.

Looking at some of the wish lists for the next Direct.

Oh dear. Same thing always happens :D

I want this this this this this and this, and it doesn't all happen... and so come the meltdowns.
It comes down to expectations; it's fine to have big hopes and dreams for Directs, but don't go into them expecting certain games to be announced/shown. There's also the occasional troll who tries to stir things up as @Sadist mentioned, but I think we'll be fine in that area.

So this is the week?👀
From what I understood the 11th is a holiday in Japan right? So the direct won’t be on the 10th
So it’s the 9th or nothing?
Honestly I don’t have problem to wait another week but the earlier the better

“In the meantime, we hope this will hold you over”

*announces a WindWaker HD port for Switch”

I can dream lol

I've been in talks recently with a well known leaker* that has confessed me that the Direct will indeed have a segment devoted to BOTW2, but only to announce its release date for May and that, at the end of the Direct, a Zelda Direct with a full, in-deep look, will follow.

* When I say well known leaker I'm obviously refering that this has been revealed to me in a dream, so 100% accuracy no fake guaranteed. Also, aparently, following the public outcry, Chris Pratt is now voicing all the roles.

We all saw how Nintendo broke the rules with Direct in second half of the month but i would really like to see them also doing it with announcemment tweet, just do it later in the day so it's not that predictable.
